Crash test ratings
NHTSA NCAP crash test ratings
New Car Assessment ProgramNCAP crash tests measure how well a vehicle protects occupants in controlled frontal crash, side crash, and rollover scenarios. Stars are awarded per category (5 = safest). These laboratory results are independent of owner complaints and are performed by NHTSA engineers on new production vehicles.
NCAP crash test ratings for this model are not yet loaded or this vehicle was not tested in the years analyzed. NHTSA tests a subset of new vehicles each year. Check nhtsa.gov/ratings directly for the latest results.

While driving the vehicle on the highway it suddenly it made a ticking noise and would not go more than 40 miles per hour. We limped into a repair shop. The upper catalyst crumbled and was sucked into the lower catalyst causing total failure. The vehicle was completely incapacitated on the roadway. This is all available for inspection. The vehicle has less than 7,000 miles on it when it failed. It left a group stranded and had to be pushed off the road. The problem was confirmed at a dealership with a quoted price of $26,000 to replace the entire long block. There were no warnings or lights before it happened, but the check engine light came on right when the vehicle slowed down to 40. we were on the highway and the fact that the vehicle couldn't go to speed made it very dangerous.
The contact owns a 2019 Nissan NV200. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and attempting to drive, the vehicle accelerated but failed to exceed 5 MPH. There was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with fuel pump failure. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V676000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The failure mileage was 95,703.
The contact owns a 2019 Nissan NV200. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V676000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair; however, the dealer informed the contact that the interior of the modified vehicle needed to be emptied at the owner's expense, prior to the recall repair. The dealer informed the contact that the modified floor was covering the easy point of access to perform the recall repair. The contact stated that the modifier of the vehicle had modified the vehicle in collaboration with the manufacturer, and the manufacturer had advertised a similar modified vehicle at an international car show. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that the expense would be covered if the contact could prove that the modifier of the vehicle had modified the vehicle in collaboration with the manufacturer. The contact had not experienced a failure.
I was driving 75MPH down the interstate when out of nowhere my engine started acting funny. It started to slow down and then the check engine light came on. As we were exiting the engine started stuttering. We were able to get it to a gas station. It was towed to a mechanic where they found that there were multiple cylinder misfires. They also found a hole in the cylinder head/valve cover. With the vehicle slowing down on its own it could've caused a wreck. The stuttering on the offramp put my family at risk of being hit while trying to turn onto the street for the gas station. I do not believe the problem has been reproduced since it has been towed since then. We are taking care to not drive or cause any further damage to the vehicle. The check engine light turned on as the vehicle began to slow down. Before that it was sounding off, for a mile or two, but no lights were on. We were already planning on stopping to check it out when the engine failed. We have yet to be able to get it repaired, as the extended warranty won't cover and we can't afford a new engine.
The contact owns a 2019 Nissan NV200 equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: Agilis Cross Climate C-Metric, Tire Size 185/60/R15C. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25T008000(Tires); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that none of the tires would be replaced. The contact was informed that he would need to purchase new tires, and then he would need to ship the previous tires to the independent mechanic for potential reimbursement. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
I was on my way back from Michigan, heading toward Utah, and around Chicago the transmission started giving me issues. I was informed by a transmission company that I would be able to make it out to Utah, but we only made it to South Dakota and the transmission was blown. I had to pay $500 in towing to a transmission shop. The transmission shop informed me that the transmission is in fact blown and it will cost $6400 to replace. I also had a quote from a Nissan dealership for around $6600. The car has under 37,000 miles but is out of warranty because it is a rebuilt title. I purchased this vehicle about 2 months ago and have driven it around 8,000 miles since. I have had regular maintenance and upkeep on the vehicle, above and beyond, as I was not sure of the previous owners care. Owners, regardless of warranty or title status, have reported similar transmission problems. This suggests an inherent issue with the 2019 NV3500. Considering the safety risks and financial burden faced by owners, I request an investigation and recall program covering inspections, repairs, or replacements.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2019 NISSAN NV. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45-50 MPH DURING SLIPPERY CONDITIONS, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, THE VEHICLE WAS UNCONTROLLABLE, AND FLIPPED OVER SEVERAL TIMES. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT LOT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES AND MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS PROVIDED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *DT*JB
IN APRIL OF 2020 WE STARTED HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES- THE BLINKERS WERE GOING CRAZY, HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF, A STRANGE SMELL EMITTING FROM THE AIR VENTS, ETC SO WE DECIDED TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE EVALUATED AS WE HAD JUST AT 600 MILES ON IT. IT WAS FOUND TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE COMPUTER MODULE AND AFTER BEING REPAIRED WAS GIVEN BACK. FAST FORWARD TO SEPTEMBER 6 AT 3,202 MILES WE NOTICED THE SAME SMELL AND THE BLINKERS WERE GOING VERY FAST AGAIN SO WE HEADED HOME AND ONCE AGAIN CALLED OUR DEALERSHIP. SHORTLY AFTER GETTING OFF OF THE PHONE WITH THEM WE NOTICED WE COULD SMELL THE SAME SMELL FROM OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND SOON THEREAFTER SOMETHING UNDER THE HOOD NEAR THE STEERING COLUMN CAUGHT FIRE CAUSING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE TO EXPLODE AND COMPLETELY DESTROY OUR VEHICLE.
I JUST PURCHASED A NEW 2019 NV. THE AIR CONDITIONING DOES NOT COOL PROPERLY. EVEN WITH THE LOWEST SETTING THE FRONT VENTS BLOW WARM AIR. AT TIMES SOME VENTS WILL GET COOLER BUT THE 4 VENTS IN THE FRONT DO NOT ALL BLOW COOL AIR, USUALLY 2 COOL, 2 WARM. THERE IS A SEPARATE CONTROL FOR THE REAR COOL/HEAT. THE HEAT IN THE BOTTOM SEEMS TO WORK WELL BUT THE ABOVE COOL DOESN'T. MY POOR CHILDREN IN THE BACK ARE OFTEN RED FACED AND OVERHEATED WHICH SCARES ME. I'VE TAKEN IT IN AS IT'S BRAND NEW AND THEY SAY THAT THERE ISN'T ANYTHING WRONG...IT JUST WORKS THAT WAY. WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN TO GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF...I'M WORRIED FOR FAMILIES WITH INFANTS IN CAR SEATS. ONE COULD DIE WITH THIS PROBLEM!
I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding a severe electrical failure and fire hazard inside the fuel tank of my 2015 Nissan NV200, directly related to Safety Recall PMA56 (NHTSA 25V676000). The dealership performed the recall service but refused to replace the fuel pump module, claiming no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) were present. Experiencing ongoing symptoms, I purchased an OEM replacement fuel pump and extracted the original module myself. Upon disassembly, I discovered: 1. Severe Electrical Arcing/Thermal Damage: The fuel level sender ceramic card, contacts, and internal harness connectors were completely charred, carbonized, and melted due to an active short circuit/extreme thermal event inside the module. 2. Debris Contamination: The internal short circuit melted the module's plastic housing, dropping burnt debris directly into the reservoir and clogging the fuel strainer. Running an active short circuit with exposed arcing contacts inside a volatile environment saturated with fuel vapors creates an imminent risk of tank explosion or vehicle fire. The dealership's protocol of only inspecting external wires or relying on DTCs is inadequate. I urge the NHTSA to audit Nissan's remedy procedures for Campaign 25V676000, as the current inspection protocol fails to detect severe internal module destruction
The contact owns a 2015 Nissan NV200. The contact stated that the climate control mode failed to defrost the windows. Approximately 3 years after the first failure, the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at the first failure, and it was determined that the heater box had failed. The heater box and climate control bracket were replaced. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer for a second diagnostic test or repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.
The vehicle safety switch is bad and Nissan dealers will not sell the part unless you buy the entire transmission. I bought this transmission in Nov 2020 from Nissan Dealer and the part is malfunction allowing it to start in all gears. The warranty on the transmission is 12,000 miles or 12 months. At this point, I am forced to drive this vehicle which can make it hazardous. Nissan is insistent that will not sell the part unless I buy a whole new transmission. How can that be?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 NISSAN NV. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WESTON NISSAN LOCATED AT 3650 WESTON RD, DAVIE, FL 33331 WHO PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE TIRES WERE ALSO REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND NO SERVICE WAS PERFORMED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
2015 NISSAN NV200 SV 78,000 MILES. DRIVER HAD MOVED VEHICLE INTO GARAGE, PARKED VEHICLE WITH A SLIGHT ANGLE TO THE STEERING. DRIVER COULD NOT REMEMBER IF VEHICLE WAS RUNNING OR KEY IN IGNITION IN 'ON' POSITION. WEATHER STRIPPING ON DRIVER'S DOOR WAS LOOSE AND PREVENTING DOOR FROM LATCHING CORRECTLY SO THAT MORE FORCE THAN USUAL WAS REQUIRED TO CLOSE AND LATCH DOOR. DOOR WAS CLOSED WITH VIGOR AND THIS CAUSED AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. COMMERCIAL VEHICLE WITH COMPONENTS INSTALLED THAT COULD FREEZE. NISSAN WAS NOT INTERESTED IN INSPECTING THE VEHICLE WITHIN A TIMELY MANNER SO VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BODY SHOP FOR INSPECTION BY INDEPENDENT 3RD PARTY AND GET REPAIRS DONE. NISSAN WAS NOT INTERESTED IN 3RD PARTY DATA AND NO LONGER WANTED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH VEHICLE.*DT CASE # (XXXXXX) ('PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).')*JB
MY AIR CONDITIONING BROKE FOR THE 3RD TIME.I BELIEVE ALL A/C UNITS SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH A DYSON FLOOR BLADELESS FAN STYLE A/C AND HEATING UNIT WITH SURGE PROTECTOR WIRE TO FUSE BUS.THIS DYSON BLADELESS COOLING AND HEATING FAN WILL INCREASE FUEL ECONOMY,REDUCE COSTLY REPAIRS,LONGER ENGINE AND BATTERY LIFE
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE BRAKES HAVE MALFUNCTIONED BUT THIS TIME WE WERE ABLE TO GET DASHCAM FOOTAGE. BRAKE PEDAL MAINTAINED PRESSURE LIKE NORMAL BUT DID NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE AT FIRST. IT FELT LIKE BRAKING ON ICE. PUMPING BRAKES EVENTUALLY BROUGHT THE BRAKES BACK ONLINE. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, WE NEARLY HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF US BECAUSE WE HAD TO BRAKE QUICKLY (ORIGINAL COMPLAINT STATED PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR -- I THINK THIS WAS IN ERROR DUE TO EXCITEMENT OF THE MOMENT). THIS BRAKE MALFUNCTION HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE PAST 2 MONTHS. DEALER CAN'T DUPLICATE AND SO FAR NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS SAYS THEIR PROCESS DOESN'T ALLOW THEM TO DO ANYTHING UNLESS THE DEALERSHIP CAN DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY SUGGESTED WE TAKE THE VAN BACK IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN -- THIS SEEMS RATHER FLIPPANT FOR SUCH A SAFETY CONCERN. VIDEO --> HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/JL9UPRMESLI
WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC ON A DRY, STRAIGHT ROAD AT ABOUT 35MPH, TRAFFIC STARTED TO SLOW FOR A RED LIGHT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE AND HAD NO EFFECT ON VEHICLE SPEED. FRANTICALLY PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL GRADUALLY INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL RESISTANCE. AFTER GAINING BRAKE PEDAL RESISTANCE, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT, ACTIVATING ABS AND NARROWLY AVERTING AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS ONLY OCCURRED ONCE, ON 19 DEC 2018 AND, TO DATE, HAS NOT REOCCURRED. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND SENT US AWAY WITH "NO PROBLEM FOUND AT THIS TIME". ANECDOTALLY, THE DEALERSHIP DID MENTION ANOTHER FAMILY THAT REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY DECLARED IT A FLUKE BECAUSE IT HAS NOT REOCCURRED. THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT IF IT DOES REOCCUR, IT'S QUITE POSSIBLE NEITHER MYSELF NOR MY FAMILY WILL BE AROUND TO REPORT IT. CONTINUING TO DRIVE WITH A STRATEGY OF HOPE THAT THIS DOES NOT REOCCUR SEEMS A POOR STRATEGY CONSIDERING THE RISK TO MY FAMILY AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. AT LEAST THIS IS A DOCUMENTED DATA POINT IF ANYONE ELSE HAS EXPERIENCED THIS.
AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON AND HAS BEEN BLINKING EVER SINCE. VEHICLE HAS 41,334 MILES.
REAR A/C HAS ZERO FLOW THEREFORE THE BACK GETS EXCEPTIONALLY HOT...THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE HAD THIS ISSUE. LAST YEAR NISSAN CHANGED COMPONENTS AND TOLD US THE ISSUE HAD BEEN RESOLVED. NOW ITS HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ONLINE.
FUEL INTAKE PORT IS TOO NARROW AND MANY GAS NOZZLES WILL NOT FIT IN IT PROPERLY. THE RESULT IS FUEL SPLASHING OUT WHEN FUELING. THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM.

The basics
How to read this data
Complaints, recalls, investigations — here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Nissan Nv200, in plain English.
What is an NHTSA Complaint?
An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Nissan Nv200 has 87 complaints on record across 10 model years.
What is a Safety Recall?
A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Nissan Nv200 has 11 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.
What Are Crash Complaints?
Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 5 of the Nissan Nv200's 87 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.
How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?
The reliability verdict (Below Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.
Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?
Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.
Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN
Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Nissan Nv200 vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Nissan Nv200 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.
What Are NHTSA Investigations?
When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Nissan Nv200 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
