Crash test ratings

NHTSA NCAP crash test ratings

New Car Assessment Program

NCAP crash tests measure how well a vehicle protects occupants in controlled frontal crash, side crash, and rollover scenarios. Stars are awarded per category (5 = safest). These laboratory results are independent of owner complaints and are performed by NHTSA engineers on new production vehicles.

NCAP crash test ratings for this model are not yet loaded or this vehicle was not tested in the years analyzed. NHTSA tests a subset of new vehicles each year. Check nhtsa.gov/ratings directly for the latest results.

SERVICE BRAKESAug 2026

Please see details of NHTSA Campaign #25V433000. This is a known issue associated with a platform technology shared by GM and Honda. I purchased the vehicle as CPO on 31 July and almost immediately the parking brake warning light and the 'Service Transmission Now, Unable to Shift Soon' error code appeared on the dash. I returned the car to the dealer on 1 Aug for repairs and was told this is a 'known issue' with Honda Prologues, but there is no recall in effect for Honda. How is this possible? I am concerned with the degree of risk I could have potentially encountered due to a sudden brake failure or being stranded.

POWER TRAINAug 2026

The cv axle is clicking. The out cv boot is torn and leaking grease.

POWER TRAINJul 2026

On 7/16/26, while driving, I heard loud clicking noises when turning and sometimes while driving straight. I took the vehicle to Coggin Deland Honda for inspection and they determined that both driveshafts are broken and need replacement. The service advisor shared that this is an ongoing problem with 2024 Honda Prologues that are not being covered by warranty. He also shared that there is a class action lawsuit regarding this issue, because they knew about this issue when building the vehicle. We have filed a claim through Honda corporate. The safety of myself and children is at risk because I am no longer able to drive the car because it poses inherent risk which can cause a vehicle crash or even death. The vehicle component has been inspected by a Honda certified mechanic. The repairs cost around 2500. This is unacceptable and should be covered by the warranty.

POWER TRAINJul 2026

Since I purchased the car new, there is a loud clicking sound when turning the car left or right.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHERJul 2026

I went to charge my car Sunday morning, and throughout the day it kept showing on the dashboard that the charge door was open. I stopped several times to check, and the charge door was actually closed, which was really strange. Later, I went into a store for less than 10 minutes. I locked my car before going inside, but when I came back out, all the windows were down. It honestly scared me because I have no idea how that could have happened. I shared my experience with a coworker who has the same car, and he told me the exact same thing happened to him. It’s so strange and concerning. This is the first time it has happened to me, but now I’m nervous about leaving anything inside the car, wondering if the windows could randomly open again.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTIONJul 2026

While getting ready to parallel park the car, the entire screen system (dashboard, center console) went completely blank. This completely eliminates visibility to all safety aids, speed of vehicle, and warning systems. This has happened with this specific vehicle in the past, and the vehicle has been updated by Honda dealership. it has not been brought to a dealer quite yet. I am awaiting the dealerships opening and availability of a loaner vehicle. I have an ongoing case with Honda on this vehicle, Case # 16062775.

STEERINGJul 2026

Both left and right CV axles make loud clicking, grinding noise when turning. I reported this issue to Honda at around 6,500 miles. At first I was told we are waiting for a solution. Now the dealership's service manager says that there is no safety issue and that Honda has no intention of fixing the problem. The car currently has less than 16,000 miles and the clicking just keeps getting louder. It doesn't feel safe and at the very least it's annoying and unacceptable.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEJul 2026

I was traveling on Interstate 80 with adaptive cruise control set at 70. The cruise control normally recognizes slower cars ahead and slows or stops as necessary. I saw that cars were stopped ahead so I reduced the cruise control setting to 60 to "help" it slow down. However, we came up fast on the stopped cars and the car did not slow. I had to manually brake to avoid a collision. The car's speed was about 67 when I applied the brakes. The car acted like slowing to the new cruise control setting of 60 was overriding the collision avoidance. I recently had much of the software in the car updated due to a recall and the adaptive cruise control seems to be acting differently now. Weather was clear, around 4pm, and the roads were dry. We were Eastbound around a slight left curve (not sharp) and traffic was stopped ahead in all 5 lanes, so the system should have noticed the obstacles ahead.

POWER TRAINJul 2026

Known design flaw of the CV joint failing under the weight of the vehicle causing a clicking sound when turning and eventually rendering the vehicle useless.

STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEJul 2026

WHEN I USED ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, MY CAR TENDS TO LEAN SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT. IT VEERS OVER A BIT AND THEN JERKS TO THE LEFT. ALL IN ALL, I CAN'T USE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ON THE FREEWAY WITHOUT PAYING ATTENTION. IT IS GENUINELY DANGEROUS IF VEHICLES ARE DRIVING ALONGSIDE OR BEHIND ME. OTHER THING, WHEN I USED ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL FOR ALMOST ONE HOUR, THEN IT SUDDENLY BECOMES INACTIVE. IF I HAVE BEEN FOLLOW ANOTHER CAR, then what should happen when it suddenly becomes inactive??? I was very lucky at that time because there was no car in front of me. After 5,000 miles, my car began to make a slight noise on the right side when I slowed down in the city. Maybe it happened in the front drive axle assemblies or the front right low arm control.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMJul 2026

Battery failed and Battery will not charge. Car has 39,000 miles and is a 2024. Has been at the dealer for 3 days. Was driving to [XXX] from [XXX]. Will have to fly back and get the car if a repair is able to be made. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMJul 2026

The screens (odometer and center entertainment console) both went blank while driving on the highway today. I had brought the vehicle in for the previous recall to have the update installed to prevent this problem.

EXTERIOR LIGHTINGJul 2026

I am unable to manually turn on my lights, the vehicle stays on β€˜automatic lights’. Headlight function remains normal within the automated functions, however, pursuing to Florida Statute 316.217 manual headlight control is necessary to turn on my headlights. The windshield wipers are an operation which does not take place unless the windshield wipers traveling at such speed, automated light control turns them on automatically. The cause of this is directly related to the software in the entertainment system that manually locks out the driver from addressing and turning on their own headlights.

POWER TRAINJul 2026

Both front axels have been making loud clicking noise and clunking vibration while turning since the vehicle roughly reached 2000 miles. The vehicle was taken into Honda Auto Center of Bellevue, and I was told that is was a known issue, Honda was no longer allowing warranty replacements of axels and that is was "just a noise the car will make".

STEERING,SUSPENSION,BACK OVER PREVENTIONJun 2026

CV Joints/Boot clicking and front passenger suspension squeaking, power steering making rubbing and squealing noises . Baking up-vehicle slams on brakes with nothing behind me. Dealership claims everything is fine and can't recreate issues.

UNKNOWN OR OTHERJun 2026

The rear backup camera is extremely dark at low light level conditions causing it to be a deterrent instead of assistant. I cannot see in the dark with the camera!

CrashLANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEJun 2026

Component: Honda Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS/AEB). Vehicle is in GEICO insurance claim process, not yet released. EDR data has not been extracted and is available for inspection if preserved before the vehicle changes hands. Safety risk: Two failure modes. (1) False AEB activations occurred multiple times β€” while driving at ~20 mph and while reversing at low speed, with no obstacle present. Hard sudden braking with no warning created rear-collision risk. (2) On 6/23/2026 at ~9:50 AM, AEB failed to activate when I struck a parked vehicle. Airbags deployed on impact, briefly incapacitating me. My foot remained on the accelerator. Standard post-collision safety design calls for automatic power cutoff and brake application after airbag deployment, specifically to prevent continued acceleration when a driver may be incapacitated. This vehicle did neither β€” it continued accelerating, significantly worsening the collision. I sustained soreness and bruising. Dealer confirmation: I did not take the vehicle to a dealer for the phantom braking. Per other NHTSA complaints for the Prologue and Honda's broader CMBS issues (Engineering Analysis EA25002), dealers have reportedly been unable to replicate the issue and told owners the behavior is normal. Inspections: GEICO assessed the vehicle for the claim. No inspection by Honda or independent mechanic for AEB specifically. EDR data not yet extracted. Warning indicators: During false AEB activations, the collision warning appeared on the dashboard at the moment of braking, not before. No advance warning. No persistent warning lamps or diagnostic messages indicating CMBS malfunction at any point during ownership. Phantom braking occurred intermittently throughout ownership.

UNKNOWN OR OTHERJun 2026

Infotainment and driver info screen go black randomly throughout the month. This has happened to me nine times in seven weeks. Takes about 30 seconds for the screens to reset.

SUSPENSIONJun 2026

My issue is the cv axles , when I am turning clicking noise is coming from the front . I brought the car to the dealership and the told me Honda said not to replace, because is some lawsuit and under investigation .There should be a recall soon with this issue. I can’t give the car back and Honda has the dealer and customer hand tied up. NHTSA this a known issue and Honda and GM new about this and will not help, can this be a safety issue yes , just wait until a wheel comes off when doing 60 miles per hour and somebody gets killed they it will be a recall.

SERVICE BRAKESJun 2026

While driving my 2024 Honda Prologue Elite at anywhere from 10-30 MPH, the One-Pedal Driving system suddenly and without warning faults out and disabled mid-drive. The regenerative braking abruptly cut out, causing a sudden loss of expected deceleration, creating a 'lurch forward' feeling. A dashboard warning light illuminated instructing me to press the brake pedal immediately. This has happened multiple times, causing a severe safety hazard during normal traffic conditions. The vehicle shares an identical GM Ultium electronic brake modulator architecture with other previously recalled vehicles. The car is unsafe and should be considered for recall repairs. I have read that this is happening to others and Honda really needs to address this issue.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations β€” here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Honda Prologue, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β€” but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Honda Prologue has 810 complaints on record across 3 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Honda Prologue has 1 recall campaign in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 10 of the Honda Prologue's 810 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β€” a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Poor) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β€” simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Honda Prologue vehicles on the road β€” not any specific car. Two Honda Prologue vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β€” NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Honda Prologue has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
