Crash test ratings

NHTSA NCAP crash test ratings

New Car Assessment Program

NCAP crash tests measure how well a vehicle protects occupants in controlled frontal crash, side crash, and rollover scenarios. Stars are awarded per category (5 = safest). These laboratory results are independent of owner complaints and are performed by NHTSA engineers on new production vehicles.

NCAP crash test ratings for this model are not yet loaded or this vehicle was not tested in the years analyzed. NHTSA tests a subset of new vehicles each year. Check nhtsa.gov/ratings directly for the latest results.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMJul 2026

As soon as the vehicle turns on, the vehicle alerts "service charging system. vehicle may stall". Vehicle has under 5000 miles and is new.

SEAT BELTSJun 2026

UKNOWN My 11 year old son was sitting in the front passenger seat. He unbuckled the seat belt and twisted to get out of the car. He found he was twisted in the seat belt with the retractor locked. First, I moved the car from the sloped driveway to the flat garage in an attempt to remove the effect of gravity on the retractor. Then, I tried to feed the seat belt back into the retractor but the retractor remained lock. We reclined the seat, raised the seat and I tried to yank the belt 4 times to override the retractor but I was not able to loosen it. I eventually cut the seatbelt to remove my son.

While approaching traffic light at approx 4-5 mph the vehicle slammed to a dead stop with a car length between us and the next vehicle. This was not the auto stop feature and it automatically engaged the parking brake while moving causing whiplash To myself and 2 additional passengers. Causing neck and back injuries. The vehicle was coming to a stop with the assistance of the one pedal drive braking at approximately 5 mph and suddenly while slowing down with more than adequate distance it slammed to a dead stop violently and unexpectedly throwing my passengers and I against our seatbelts causing injuries. Several other occasions the vehicle has had phantom emergency braking with no obstacles, vehicles or pedestrians near it but at slower speeds and did not cause as much trauma. This event was significant and all 3 parties myself included are experiencing pain related to the event.

1 InjurySERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEMay 2026

After charging the vehicle. We reversed out of the parking stall. The vehicle braked really hard with no warning as if we hit something, but there was nothing for us to hit in the parking lot. The braking was so hard my body jerked! This is the second time the emergency braking engaged sudden. The first time a vehicle was near and the warning light did indicate vehicle but not close enough for the braking system to engage. It could have caused the vehicle to hit me from the rear if it was closer.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEMar 2026

There is a serious issue with the adaptive cruise control braking when nothing is in the driving path of the vehicle. This issue happens a both slow and fast speeds creating a dangerous driving condition for myself and those around me. It happens almost daily when I use it. For instance, if I set the cruise to 25MPH and the road turns it will slow down for vehicles parked in driveways, and while going straight it will alert me to brake for parked on the left or right. While going faster like 45MPH, it has hard braked many times for vehicles outside my lane or on the side of the road. This creates a situation where people have to avoid me and is probably unexpected and scary for them and a concern of being rear ended. I have driven several vehicles with adaptive cruise control and this has been much worse than the similar issues I’ve experienced in them as well. This issue is happening consistently and on well marked roads when conditions are right where there are vehicles around stopped or in turn lanes or driving through neighborhoods for vehicles in driveways.

SUSPENSIONMar 2026

A clicking noise began today from the front suspension area while driving at slow speeds with a slight turn of steering wheel or minor road imperfections. At about 750 miles on the odometer. A separate but louder intermittent clunk is also coming from the front wheel area while using the one pedal driving/regenerative braking autohold function. This occurs when the vehicle comes to a complete stop or starting from a stop. This noise has been occurring since about 200 miles on the odometer. The vehicle was purchased new less than one month ago.

CrashEXTERIOR LIGHTINGAug 2026

Backup camera image was too dark to see a tree behind the car. Driver backed into the tree. Dealer refuses to address faulty backup camera or backup lighting; claims this VIN is not subject to recall, so not their problem. Driver cannot drive this vehicle at night without functional backup camera visibility.

STRUCTUREAug 2026

- Component: Undercarriage splash shield - Risk: One of the two sliding panels slid off under normal driving conditions. Vehicle has only 6,000 miles on it. The panel then drags on the ground and has risk of breaking off and flying off behind the vehicle. In our case, it just dropped when my daughter drove vehicle into the driveway, but if this happened at highway speeds it could be very bad. - Confirmation: Discussed it with Honda service technician. Their only response was that they cannot re-engineer the vehicle, they can only slide panel back in place as use existing clips. - Inspected: By Honda dealer/service tech. - There were no warnings or indications of the problem, only the noise of the panel dragging on the ground. Other owners have indicated same problem on Facebook and on Reddit. See the following links: Facebook: [XXX] Reddit: [XXX] The ridiculous recommendation is to just slide it back in place. But there is no guarantee that it will not just slide out again every few months or weeks. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

UNKNOWN OR OTHERAug 2026

There’s a loud clicking noise that I was told had something to do with the axle. Honda said they can’t do anything because it doesn’t affect the car driving. They’ve noticed the sound before too when I dropped it off for service. This can be a safety hazard especially after time if not replaced. Especially since I’ve only had my car for 1 year.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ELECTRICAL SYSTEMJul 2026

I had the same issue that prompted a recall of the 2024 prologue, screens went completely black while I was driving on the interstate around 8 pm. The black screen spontaneously resolved after about one minute. That was really scary not having important operating info such as my speed and my GPS directions!

STEERING,SUSPENSIONJul 2026

Makes a clicking sound when turning. Honda unwilling to repair or look at car. It's been an ongoing issue with Honda Prologue owners.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKESJul 2026

The contact owns a 2025 Honda Prologue. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at undisclosed speeds and removing the foot off the accelerator pedal, the vehicle unexpectedly came to an immediate stop. The Auto Hold, service brake assist, service stability link, high voltage light, and ABS warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000.

SUSPENSIONJul 2026

Both cv joints failed at less than 3,000 miles. They know about this but will no longer replace them as they know the new ones will fail immediately.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VISIBILITY/WIPERJul 2026

Rear backup camera image failed to provide adequate image at night. Backup lights were fully functional. Automobile lights were on and appeared fully functional. No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms of the problem appeared. Backup camera appeared fully functional in daylight. Backup camera lens was clean. Problem appeared to be either inadequate light provided by the backup lights OR inadequate image resolution in low light by the camera. As a result of this problem, the driver backed into a tree.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEMJul 2026

On June 11, 2026, my 2025 Honda Prologue displayed a High Voltage System Alert immediately after I attempted to charge the vehicle. The vehicle would not accept a charge and became inoperable. I brought it to the dealership the same day, and the vehicle has remained there since. The dealership first replaced the charging port, but the vehicle still would not charge. On June 24, 2026, the dealership informed me that the transmission lines from the charging port to the battery needed to be replaced. Since that date, I have not received any updates, repair timeline, or confirmation that the issue is being addressed. The vehicle is currently unusable and cannot be charged. The high‑voltage alert indicates a potential electrical system failure involving the charging system and high‑voltage components, which may pose a safety risk. The defect has left the vehicle inoperable for over a month with no resolution.

STEERINGJul 2026

I bought the vehicle with about 12k a few months go. While making a shap left turn I noticed some clicking. This happen seminary regularly. After doing some research I found out this was a common issue. Since, it didn't happen that often I ignored it. On Tuesday 6/30/2026 I took the vehicle in for a tire rotation and system update. The vehicle now has approximately twelve thousand miles. After the serviceI picked up my vehicle and went home. The next day after driving about a 75 miles, I noticed an audible clicking sound when I made a right turn. This sound happened about three more times that day. I took the vehicle back to a Honda dealer today and I was just notified that they are going to be replacing the front two control arms. The vehicle is still under warranty. I was told that this is a common issue by the honda dealer. And it should only take a few hours to fix panning my parts are received tomorrow morning. Other than the audible clicking sound, there were no other warning lights or indications. Based on the number of complaints that I read about online in honda's representatives, knowing that there is an issue, I think this should be further investigated in case there are other safety concerns.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEJun 2026

I was traveling at a steady speed of 35 MPH approaching an intersection with a red traffic signal. There was a single vehicle already stopped at the light, but it was positioned a significant distance ahead of my vehicle. Without any warning, driver input, or hazard present, my vehicle initiated an uncommanded emergency braking maneuver. The vehicle forcefully decelerated from 35 MPH to a complete stop (0 MPH) in the middle of the roadway. Prior to this incident, the vehicle's forward collision system has exhibited false positive detections, frequently issuing warnings for phantom vehicles or obstacles when the road ahead was completely clear

UNKNOWN OR OTHERJun 2026

The vehicle is not charging this have happened multiple time since owning this vehicle

EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHERJun 2026

Backup camera is completely black when it is dark outside, making it worthless. It is fine during daylight hours. The local Honda dealer acknowledged that there is a problem, but stated that Honda has no solution for it at this time.

POWER TRAINJun 2026

Hi, yes the component is the CV axle on the driver side front wheel. Whenever I make a left turn, the driver side CV axle makes a clicking noise. Also, sometimes, when I make a right turn, especially when going slower, the same drive side front wheel CV makes a clicking noise. It is available for inspection upon request. The safety seems OK, but we are fearful that is could break and cause an accident. We brought the the car to the Honda Norm Reeves in Cerritos on April 3rd, 2026, and the dealership told us it was a common issue. And right now there are no parts available for it. It's not a safety issue, so we shouldn't worry about it. So we took them at their word. But we are still nervous about it so which is why we're reporting it. The vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. There were not any symptoms of warning lamps or messages of the problem prior to failure.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations — here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Honda Prologue, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Honda Prologue has 966 complaints on record across 3 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Honda Prologue has 4 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 15 of the Honda Prologue's 966 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Poor) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Honda Prologue vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Honda Prologue vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Honda Prologue has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
