MY 2008 BMW F800ST HAD A PROBLEM WITH SHUTTING OFF DURING OPERATION. THE WOULD OCCUR IN WARM WEATHER AND WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS LESS THAN HALF FULL. THE MOTORCYCLE WOULD SHUT OFF AND STALL WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE PROBLEM WAS FINALLY CORRECTED BY REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP. *TR

MY 2008 F800ST MOTORCYCLE STALLS INTERMITTENTLY DURING NORMAL OPERATION WHICH HAS LED TO MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF CLOSE CALLS (ALMOST CRASHING). *TR

I WAS RIDING THE MOTORCYCLE AT A STEADY HIGHWAY SPEED. I HAD BEEN RIDING THE MOTORCYCLE AT A STEADY HIGHWAY SPEED FOR 30 MILES CONTINUOUSLY. ENGINE CUTS-OUT COMPLETELY, WITH NO WARNING. MOTORYCLE ROLLS TO A STOP, I SWITCH ENGINE OFF, WAIT ONE MINUTE, CYCLE START SEQUENCE, ENGINE SOMETIMES STARTS, SOMETIMES DOESN'T. I AVOIDED HIGHWAY TRAFFIC WITH SOME DIFFICULTY, AS THE MOTORCYCLE SLOWED ABRUPTLY. I TURNED ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS . THIS HAS HAPPENED 8 TIMES. MOTORCYCLE IS AT DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. *TR

-There is a loud clicking sound from the rear wheel that could be caused by the rear wheel bearing/final drive. As a result, I am very worried about riding it because a failure could be catastrophic. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. -It is my concern that the Information System has been designed in a way that BMW Motorrad to show that Recall obligations have been fulfilled though they may not have been. Other owners of effected motorcycles may have similarly encountered such an obstacle and would have had to resolve the problem at their own expense, while the BMW Motorrad system would show that the Recall was done even though, possibly in many cases, it would have been just a check – not the solution as provided in the Recall. There are cases on the internet of owners that have spoken of such obstacles. --I showed a video recording that I have with me of the sound that is coming from the rear wheel, and the Service Manager said it was a sound that justified attention. However, after that, though I have written to set up an appointment to have it checked under the Recall, they have not done so. I have a record of having written to them. -As yet there has not been an accident, so you are first authority to whom I am reporting this matter, for prevention. -I have been concerned enough with intermittent clicking sounds that I have been hearing from January 2022 when the odometer showed 22000 miles. These have become persistent and loud. There are between 23000 and 24000 miles at present. These are low miles for this kind of problem.

The contact took the motorcycle to Max BMW Motorcycles (845 Hoosick Rd, Troy, NY 12180) where he was informed that the wheel bearing might need to be replaced in the near future. The contact stated that the failure persisted and the motorcycle was taken to BMW Motorcycles of Miami (7501 NW 36th St, Miami, FL 33166) where he was informed that the wheel bearing was operating as needed however, the wheel speed sensor was defective. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V549000 (Wheels) which he linked to the failure. The contact took the motorcycle to a third dealer where he was informed that the motorcycle was included in the recall prior to him owing the motorcycle; however, the wheel bearing was inspected but not replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the recall was properly serviced. The motorcycle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000. The VIN was not available. The consumer stated after contacting the VP of BMW in his region, the recall has been performed and the motorcycle is driving great.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW F 800 ST. WHILE OPERATING THE MOTORCYCLE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE REAR WHEEL WOULD WOBBLE AND VIBRATE, WHICH MADE THE REAR END VERY UNSTABLE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER (MAX BMW MOTORCYCLES, 845 HOOSICK ST, TROY NY) WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CYCLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V549000 (WHEELS). THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE CYCLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.

The contact owns a 2009 BMW F-800 ST. The contact stated that the ABS warning light was displayed on the instrument panel. While driving the vehicle, the contact experienced loose handling and control of the motorcycle coming from the rear wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who discovered that the ABS sensor on the rear wheel had been scraped by a timing ring. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V549000 (Wheels); which the contact linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

CPSC#I1220183A. BMW MOTORCYCLE. CONSUMER STATED HER BIKE STALLED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE FUEL PUMP SEIZED DO TO EXCESS HEAT ALMOST KILLING HER. *LN THE CONSUMER STATED BMW REPAIRED THE BIKE, WITH THE SAME FAULTY PART. *JB

BMW F800ST MOTORCYCLE FUEL PUMP FAILURES. OVER HEAT AND SUDDEN FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP CAN RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUES INJURY. FUEL PUMP OVERHEATS, SHORTS OUT AND SUDDENLY STOPS. WILL BEGIN WORKING AGAIN ONCE IT HAS COOLED DOWN. BMW NORTH AMERICA KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND IS DOING NOTHING. I ALMOST WAS KILLED - SOME ONE IS GOING TO DIE. PLEASE FORCE BMW INTO A RECALL. I WAS IN THE HOV LANE ON A 4 LANE FREEWAY IN CA. TRAFFIC WAS MODERATE TO HEAVY. THE MOTORCYCLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF. I PULLED IN THE CLUTCH ANS ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE MOTORCYCE AS IT WAS LOOSING SPEED AND FOLLOWING TRAFFIC WAS CLOSING ON THE TAIL. BIKE RESTART FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN DIED AGAIN. I PUT ON FLASHERS AND ATTEMPTED TO STRUGGLE THRU 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC LOOSING SPEED RAPIDLY AS TRAFFIC SURVED AROUND ME NEALY COLLIDING WITH ME AS THE BIKE LOST SPEED RAPIDLY ON THE 2-3% UP-HILL INCLINE. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER AND SAT IN THE HEAT (105 DEGF) ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE BIKE. AFTER 15 MINUTES THE BIKE RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO LIMP IT 3 MILES TO AN OFF RAMP. THE BIKE QUITE AGAIN ON THE OFF RAMP AND I WAS ALMOST RAN OVER BY A SEMI TRUCK EXITING THE FREEWAY DUE TO THERE BEING A 6 INCH SHOULDER ON THE OFF RAMP. ONCE I LIMPED IT TO FUEL STATION I CALLED THE BMW DEALERSHIP IN TUCSON - BEFORE I COMPLETED THE DISCRIPTION OF THE ISSUES THEY INDICATED THEY KNEW ALL ABOUT IT AND WANT THE CAUSE WAS. THEY INDICATED BMW KNOWS ABOUT IT. IT HAS BEEN OVER A MONTH AND BMW HAS DONE NOTHING- SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE. A 4 HOUR RIDE TOOK ALMOST 9 HOURS IN SCORCHING HEAT TO LIMP THE BIKE 250 MILES HOME WITH THE FUEL PUMP STOPPING 28 TIMES. BMW IS DOING NOTHING - LIKE THEY ALWAYS DO. *TT

THE DEALER MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE BY REPLACING THE FUEL INJECTORS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE DEALER ALSO FOUND A LOOSE WIRE CONNECTED TO THE COIL SPRING. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 800.
