The vehicle's clutch started slipping under acceleration thus making merging on to the interstate or crossing an intersection from a yield very dangerous.

The car randomly reports an Engine Malfunction which results in many warning lights indicating that certain systems are non-functional. These include (but are not limited to): - Forward collision warning - Automatic emergency braking - Cruise control - Basically, any driver assistance feature that requires external sensors is turned off Also, the rear wheel drive is turned off so the car only drives using the front wheels. On each successive drive, with the engine turned off in between, some of these systems start functioning again. After 3 or 4 such driving cycles all the systems come back on. The dealer detected error code P2C90 (P2C9000) which refers to the positive crankcase ventilation system. The ventilation system was inspected and nothing was found to require repair. Others have reported this issue: - the video here shows the dash warning indicators: [XXX] - this person had to use the lemon law to return the car to Toyota [XXX] It is crazy that an errant emissions error disables the safety assistance features of the car. While driving home from dinner I pulled off from a stop light as normal and shifted from 1st into 2nd then 3rd with zero issues. As I went to shift into 4th it was as if the gear was locked out, thinking there was just something I was missing I tried 5th and was met with the same issue, tried 4th again and still nothing and I couldn’t get into 3rd. At this point I was rapidly losing speed and I was on a busy road. I pulled into a left turn lane brought the vehicle to a stop until it was safe to proceed with the turn tried to go into first gear and I couldn’t. I had to push my car across oncoming traffic into the safety of a parking lot. There was ZERO signs the clutch was going out as this is a brand new car with only 5k miles on it. The dealership has stated the entire clutch assembly needs to be replaced and that it is user responsibility as they are claiming “abuse” however if it was user abuse the clutch wouldn’t have blown up it would’ve simply been ground down to the rivets. This catastrophic failure is a result of a bad clutch system that can not handle the turbo that is stock on the car. The repair is $8k and they are stating I am not covered by any warranty as Toyota has deemed the clutch a wear and tear item. I have filed a complaint with Toyota USA on 7/18/25 and they have yet to give me a response on if they will cover the costs of the repair and the rental they gave me.

Apple CarPlay will randomly disconnect while wireless and wired, it has happened when only streaming music, streaming music with maps running and phone calls/teams calls with and without maps running. The solution has been to remove the device from the car and the car from the phone, power off and then pair the devices again.

Clutch slipping causing the inability to accelerate when needed

The clutch is slipping while driving I have had it happen when shifting to 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

I started the car to warm it when ambient temperature was approximately 24F. The car revved up then nearly stalled about 3 times then threw a check engine light for a random cylinder misfire and disabled the forward collision warning system. The car has always had issues with nearly dying during cold starts below about 40F but this is the first time it has thrown a code.

on [XXX] this vehicle lost power on the very busy interstate due to the clutch failing. this caused loss of power, and i had to exit the vehicle to push it to the side of the road while traffic was passing at 55+ mph. I could have very easily been hit either inside or outside of the vehicle and could do nothing to prevent this. other people could be injured due to the vehicle being stopped in the middle of the highway. this is due to a premature failing of the clutch liner. Toyota will not replace under warranty stating that it is a wear and tear item. there was no warning it failed, and it rendered the vehicle inoperable. Toyota diagnosed a failed clutch, at 20347 miles. this vehicle has not been abused and was driven to and from work only with 95% of the driving on the highway. the component is still in the vehicle but can be removed or inspected at request. the vehicle has been inspected by Blackstone Toyota in Fresno, CA. This occurred suddenly and without any form of warning whether mechanical or via a warning light, or message. Clutch failure at early miles on multiple cars, there's even blogs about it. They don't want to cover, but it doesn't have the durability of a normal clutch.

Both front tires on my 2023 Toyota GR Corolla have developed severe inner-edge wear down to the cords, while the rest of the tread remains in excellent condition. This occurred at approximately 14,000 miles. The wear pattern is symmetrical and isolated to the inner inch of both front tires, indicating that it is not the result of normal driving, impact, or neglect, but rather points to a factory alignment or suspension geometry defect. I discovered the issue during a routine inspection and immediately stopped driving the vehicle for safety reasons. Tire wear exposing the cords poses a high risk of sudden tire failure or loss of steering control, especially at highway speeds. This appears to be a manufacturing or setup defect, as multiple other 2023 GR Corolla owners have reported the same pattern of premature inner-edge front tire wear on owner forums. The consistency of these reports suggests a systemic issue affecting vehicle safety. The vehicle is currently being evaluated at an authorized Toyota dealership, and the service department has communicated the concern to Toyota for review as a potential safety-related issue.

The clutch in the '23 GR Corollas is not sufficient enough for the vehicle. Even Toyota knows this as they updated the clutch not only from 23 to 24 but also from 24 to 25. I have a little over 20k miles on mine, and the clutch is so far gone that the car is not driveable. I have heard of a large handful of clutch warranties and have confirmed 7 of them. I took my car to the dealer and they want me to approve ≈$1800 of service to determine if the clutch is warrantable, but advised that if the Toyota Rep decides its not covered, I'm on the hook for the labor. This has been a well documented complaint amongst forum posts and other social media groups with GR Corolla owners. If Toyota knows there is a problem, they should issue a TSB or something so its not such a hassle.

I am writing to file a complaint regarding my 2023 Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition. The issue pertains to the ECU programming, which was not properly calibrated for the wheels that came with this model. Instead, the weight and dimensions from the Morizo Edition were utilized. This discrepancy causes the vehicle to inaccurately register speed, which is a significant safety concern. The malfunctioning component is the ECU, and it is available for inspection upon request. The inaccurate speedometer readings put my safety and the safety of others at risk by potentially causing unintentional speeding, which could lead to traffic violations and increased risk of accidents. Additionally, the inaccurate speed readings can affect other vehicle systems, such as collision alerts, adaptive cruise control, and braking systems, which rely on accurate speed data to function correctly. For example, collision alerts may not activate in time, adaptive cruise control may not maintain safe distances, and braking systems may not respond appropriately to speed changes. Furthermore, the driver display includes a light that indicates when the vehicle is exceeding the detected speed limit for the current area, which is rendered unreliable due to the inaccurate speedometer. Additionally, the console only displays speed in kilometers per hour (km/h) with no option to switch to miles per hour (mph), which is problematic for North American vehicles and other countries that use mph. The low fuel light also comes on with 20 miles left, which could be related to the same calibration issue affecting the speedometer and other systems. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by an independent service center. However, the vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. There were no warning lamps or messages indicating the problem prior to the failure, and the issue was first noticed shortly after taking delivery of the vehicle.

The clutch system on my car is prematurely failing. I understand that it is a wear and tear item. This is not my first manual transmission car. I have been driving vehicles with manual transmissions for over 20 years. The issue I am having now is not normal behavior for a for a brand new car, let alone for a performance oriented vehicle. I first noticed it when the car was brand new with a distinct clutch burning smell. It would come and go and the general community of owners with the same car said it was a normal occurrence. This is my first brand new car purchase so I thought nothing of it. I then noticed the problem get worse at 7k miles. The clutch was slipping in all gears just ever so slightly when driving close to the car's redline. I am now at 13k miles and the problem is getting worse. I know how to drive a manual transmission and this is not a driver error. I have heard of other drivers of the same car had their clutch fail completely during driving on the highway. I would hate to be put in a perilous situation if my clutch fails to operate on the road/highway and my car will not be able to move or avoid a life threatening event. It has not been inspected by a Toyota dealership yet. I was just made aware of how much bigger the clutch issue is amongst the community of owners of the same model car as I researched the issue. I will be initiating the inspection/diagnosis with a Toyota dealership very soon.
