Crash test ratings
NHTSA NCAP crash test ratings
New Car Assessment ProgramNCAP crash tests measure how well a vehicle protects occupants in controlled frontal crash, side crash, and rollover scenarios. Stars are awarded per category (5 = safest). These laboratory results are independent of owner complaints and are performed by NHTSA engineers on new production vehicles.
NCAP crash test ratings for this model are not yet loaded or this vehicle was not tested in the years analyzed. NHTSA tests a subset of new vehicles each year. Check nhtsa.gov/ratings directly for the latest results.

Extreme glare from the hud when the sun is to the rear of the vehicle. Moves back and forth as your driving. This is very distracting because of its extreme brightness. Brighter the sun brighter the glare.
On occasion, the engine will lack power upon accelerating from a stop of slow speed resulting in a delay in power needed to accelerate. This creates a safety risk when accelerating from a stop or slow speed by opening up the risk of a collision when the car doesn't accelerate as needed. The car has been taken to the dealership but they say they cannot reproduce so they return it in the same condition. There are no warning lights that are presented to the driver.
The Pre-Collision Braking system is the function that failed. It is turned in a new vehicle by the Manufacture. On March 24, 2026 the Toyota dealer did a safety recall on the vehicle The accident occurred on [XXX] In a Parking Garage. I was pulling into an empty parking spot. I turned the steering wheel to align the car to the lines on the floor. My foot was lightly on the brake when the car accelerated forward to hit the garage wall. The vehicle did not show any alarms until after it hit the wall, if this happened while driving it could have hit a pedestrian causing serious harm. I opened a case ([XXX]) with Toyota Brand Engagement Center on April 2, 2026. They downloaded a copy of the vehicleβs software on April 27, 2026. On June 10, 2026, I received an Email from Toyota Motor North America, Inc. (Ronald I.) He wrote βOur inspection did not identify that this incident was the result of a concern in your vehicleβs PCS or throttle system. We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns, but we are unable to offer any assistance based on the electronic data and the vehicle inspection findings.β INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Bridgestone tires were out at 18 k. The tires were roared by Toyota and aligned. This is a safety item and a fleet defect
One of the USB-C charging ports caved into the dashboard only several months after purchasing the car, resulting an oddly hole on the dashboard and non functional charging port.

A few weeks after purchasing this vehicle in Dallas, TX we drove to Florida. About 4 hours into the trip we stopped for lunch and noticed both of our cells phones had not charged and in fact had discharged quite a bit. Further testing shows none of the front or rear USB Type-C ports would charge any cell phone we plugged into them. I purchased a USB volt meter and verified that the car would only send a small fraction of an amp to any cell phone plugged into these four ports. After discussing it with the dealer we tried different phones, different cables, and even every new Toyota on the show room floor. No single vehicle's front or rear Type-C ports would charge any cell phone we tried. Since then we have tried 4 friends Lexus vehicles and found the same issue exists in all of them. Any Type-C port labeled with a lightning bolt (i.e. a charging port) will not charge any phone we've tried. Any Type-C port that is marked as a data port will charge the phone. We have tried 5 different Samsung and 3 different iPhones and none will charge in the Type-C ports marked as charging ports. All phones and cables we've tested work with all home chargers and every other vehicle make and model we've tested with. The Samsung phones we have quick access to and originally used in testing are S21, S24, and A54. The iPhones are about two year old models.
The Toyota Crown Signia Tire Pressure Monitoring gauge has to be reset to properly display on each start versus staying in place on the drivers monitoring dashboard. All other driver monitoring aids, once selected to display on the monitoring dash, stay in place per each start cycle. This has existed as a vehicle defect from day 1. Many others have noted the same issue on various Crown Signia bulleting boards. The tire pressure monitoring is important as this vehicle has: 1. No spare, and weighs over 4,200 lbs. 2. The limited model in on 21 inch rims, and runs 235/45R21 tires, ie., very low profile. As such, this should be fixed immediately to ensure this critical information, once set up for monitoring, stays in place for driver monitoring.
When leaning on the front seat center armrest, the armrest makes a clicking noise when hitting rough or bumpy roads. The Toyota dealer replaced the armrest, and the same issue occurred. Toyota told the dealer they want the part to investigate further.
While driving less than 10 mph, (slightly down hill) approaching the house garage, the car suddenly accelerated and the brake was applied to stop but the car continued and smashed through the garage door, proceeded through garage, smashed through the back of garage, hit a Weber gas grill, proceeded over a low-level deck and hit a large tree. The impact force of the car (left front) against the tree caused the car rear end to rise up and move 30 degrees to the right and land on the low-level deck. The driver was the only person in the car and suffered a broken right wrist and contusions to her chest. Both Front air bags did not deploy, side air bags did deploy. There was no warning given and the Car collision avoidance system did not stop the car. The damage to car was total. Car Emergency Voice activated and assisted in notifying ambulance and police. Insurance has reviewed the damage, but I am not aware that they are investigating for cause. There has been one other sudden acceleration reported of a 2025 Crown Signa. There is history of malfunctions of the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) (per Google). There is an Event Data Recorder (EDR) on the car, but I don't know what is on it. This needs to be investigated. (If this unintended acceleration happened in a grocery parking lot, or on a highway, there could have been serious injuries or a death).
As I was driving down a suburban road at about 30mph the brakes suddenly came on by themselves for few seconds as I approached a parked car on my right side. As I started to pass this car my vehicle continued moving forewarned and I did not come to a complete stop. There were no cars in front or behind me except for the one car parked to my right. There were two electric beeps when the car braked.
Driver headlight is lower than passenger headlight creating a big dark side on driver side. Dealership say it canβt be corrected
Two issues: 1. Low-beam headlights shine way too low on the road and unsafely prevent adequate vision of potential road hazards or oncoming cars, and my model "Limited" only has "automatic headlight leveling" without any way to manually set level to raise up the beam to a safe level. 2. Low-beam headlights cast on the road a distracting dark outline of an attachment or harness plug attached to the LED bulb.
The car was leased on 12/18/2024. On 01/24/2025, after starting the vehicle, the check engine light came on with the description: "a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected. Contact your Toyota dealer to have your vehicle inspected." I am attempting to get an appointment now to get the car in for service but being a month old - this shouldn't be happening.
I had buckled my seat belt and was grabbing my work phone, Iphone 13, to check it before leaving. I accidentally dropped it and it landed on the red part of my seat belt buckle. My seat belt automatically unbuckled. I was able to replicate this several more times. There is something going on with the engine where if you accelerate there is a coolant type smell then if you take your foot off the gas it sounds like the rpms are staying high. I've seen no warning lights for the car.
lower exterior door molding panels completely detach and fly off the vehicle at highway speeds due to a failure of the factory plastic mounting clips, creating an immediate road debris hazard for vehicles traveling behind me.
When driving the vehicle under normal load and conditions, after coming to a complete stop- then trying to accelerate to take a turn or move forward- the vehicle begins to proceed then suddenly stops moving or accelerating. Twice now I have almost been T Boned. Once when leaving my neighborhood and trying to proceed onto the main 45mph country road, most recently tried to turn left from a turning lane across 2 oncoming lanes of traffic. The car just sat there blocking the road for about 5 seconds despite having the gas pedal pressed. I do have a case opened with Toyota, however, the dealership said there is nothing they can do about it since they couldn't replicate the issue and Im stuck with it or I can sell the car. This is so dangerous. There are TSB issued about this, but what can I do since the dealership said "no code, not their problem". There are not many of these cars around since their introduction in 2023. I don't know if I need another dealership or how to get someone at Toyota to take this seriously. There is also a Toyota Crown forum and can see others have experienced the same issue. HELP. I love this car, but it is not safe.
See attached document for complaint.
Issue with Rear Camera not turning off when car is placed in Drive. notified Toyota Corp twice and dealership about this issue. There is a total loss of multimedia display when this happens. When I put the car in Park turn off the the car and restart the rear camera turns off. I have notified Toyota twice about this issue. The response I get from the dealership is that there is a recall for the camera on the Crown, but it does not exist yet. Toyota corporate told me that I need to have the dealership do a diagnostic done on the car.

The basics
How to read this data
Complaints, recalls, investigations β hereβs what each number actually tells you about a used Toyota Crown, in plain English.
What is an NHTSA Complaint?
An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Toyota Crown has 53 complaints on record across 4 model years.
What is a Safety Recall?
A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Toyota Crown has 11 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.
What Are Crash Complaints?
Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 5 of the Toyota Crown's 53 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β a key safety signal beyond general reliability.
How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?
The reliability verdict (Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.
Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?
Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.
Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN
Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Toyota Crown vehicles on the road β not any specific car. Two Toyota Crown vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.
What Are NHTSA Investigations?
When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Toyota Crown has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
