Full system fault on the center stack display. The unit turns off completely and/or resets continuously. The rear parking camera, audio, navigation, etc. is affected when this issue occurs.
I am submitting a safety complaint regarding the driver assistance system (ProPILOT Assist) in my 2024 Infiniti QX80. The behavior of this system creates a potentially dangerous driving condition. When ProPILOT Assist is engaged, the vehicle consistently delays braking until the last possible moment, then applies sudden and aggressive braking rather than smooth deceleration. This creates a high risk of rear-end collisions, especially in moderate to heavy traffic where gradual speed adjustments are expected. In addition, the lane-keeping function appears unstable. The vehicle tends to drift or βhugβ one side of the lane instead of maintaining a centered position. At highway speeds, the system makes abrupt and overly aggressive steering corrections, even when the vehicle is already within lane boundaries and at a safe following distance. These sudden inputs feel unnatural and reduce driver confidence, requiring constant manual correction. Overall, the system behavior is unpredictable and does not align with reasonable expectations for a driver assistance feature. Instead of enhancing safety, it introduces unnecessary risk by combining delayed braking with aggressive steering inputs. This issue occurs under normal driving conditions on clearly marked roads and does not appear to be an isolated event. Given the size and weight of the QX80, these system responses could lead to serious accidents if not addressed. I request that this issue be investigated, as it presents a significant safety concern for drivers and others on the road.
While driving at normal speed, I suddenly heard a very loud explosion-like βboomβ coming from the roof of the vehicle. I immediately pulled over and discovered that the panoramic roof glass had shattered, leaving a large opening/hole in the glass. There was no impact from any object, no debris strike, and no visible impact point or damage consistent with road debris. Nothing hit the vehicle before or during the incident. The failure occurred suddenly and without warning, creating a serious safety concern. Shattered glass could have entered the passenger compartment and startled the driver, potentially causing loss of control. Based on the nature of the failure (loud explosive sound, sudden collapse, no impact evidence), this appears to be a spontaneous glass failure / manufacturing defect of the panoramic roof. This incident raises concerns about the safety and structural integrity of panoramic roof glass on this vehicle model.
I have been saying that my vehicle is a safety hazard since April 2022. I have had it to the dealer 4x since then in addition to opening up several cases with Inifiniti Customer Service, but nobody has been able to protect my family and I and remedy the situation. At times the vehicle will not accelerate even when I push the gas all the way down. Then it will kick in and surge forward. I also have told them that at times it feels as if someone has rear ended me. There is a recall out there for cars manufactured through April 2020, but mine was manufactured in September 2020. Infiniti's recall is #R21A3 and the NHTSA ID is 21V373. I have experienced the same exact symptoms as those covered under this recall. Now Inifiniti is telling me that my transmission needs to be replaced as a result of metal shavings in the oil. Again, this could all have been caused by this fuel pump issue which was on their radar in 2021 and 2022 when I brought my car in the first time. Infiniti has failed to help me in every step of the way beginning with their Service Tech not fixing the issue back in 2022 through 2024 when I have consistently expressed my concerns while the car was still under warranty.
This is a 2021 Vehicle, and beginning in April of 2022, I have been telling my dealer that there is something wrong, but they haven't been able to fix it. When I am driving, there are times when the car will fail to accelerate. Also at times it feels like I have been rear ended and the car lurches. I have said this is a safety issue and neither the dealer nor Inifiniti Customer Consumer Affairs have taken this seriously and remedied the situation. They all say there is nothing they can do. I have taken it to the dealer 6 times and opened up a case with Infiniti back in 2024 with no resolution.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Fuel Rail/ System Pressure too low How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The contact owns a 2021 Infiniti QX80. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 MPH, the sunroof inadvertently exploded without impact. The contact stated that the sunroof was not being utilized and was covered and closed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
The paint is peeling on my 2021 qx80 on the rear bumper and the grill is bubbling. Infiniti refused to cover it because we are out of the warranty. Might I ad only by a couple hundred miles.

Sunroof shattered after a loud boom without warning. No preexisting damage prior to this happening. Nothing overhead that lead to damage. Just literally exploded
forward collision light came on for fours hours display blinks on and off press buttons on display or open various apps on smart phone and music stops playing wireless DVD player doesn't come on or work The electronics in the suv is faulty and not perdicable
Sunroof shattered while driving. If I did not have sunroof cover closed, glass would have fallen on me into car and potentially cause distraction leading to crash. An insurance rep will be inspecting vehicle within the next 3-5 days. No prior warnings before glass shattered.
The brakes automatically engage without cause. The problem occurs at both city and highway speeds, from 20-75 mph. It is particularly bad when passing underneath a bridge. The car will abruptly stop. This has been ongoing for monthes. Sometimes, the vehicle will act inappropriately when the brake is applied by the driver. The car will attempt to accelerate. Other times the car will hard brake as if slamming the brakes.
While waiting in a parking lot, I was reviewing the settings available on the lower center display, one of those options was for "Camera." Inside this menu I found and made adjustment for options like brightness, contrast, tint, color, and black level... and while most of those seemed to work well, and I was able to make suitable adjustments to the camera--the tint and color options seemed to have no effect on the image. So, I opted to adjust tint from the default/middle value all the way to the left/lowest value and save the settings. Even then, with that saved, I was able to switch to the camera and could see there was no difference in the image still. I then remained with the vehicle, still parked with the engine idling, waiting another ten minutes or so before preparing to leave. When I put my vehicle in reverse gear, I was shocked to see that the camera displays had gone completely black. I could no longer see the rear images when backing up. I tried going back to park and again to the rear setting--still, there was no image being displayed for the cameras. I could see some items on-screen still, like the button to switch camera views and to toggle the parking sensors on/off. When switching camera views/angles, the system would continue displaying the same two black/empty displays. I tried turning the engine off and back on--but that didn't seem to have any effect, the system remained broken. I was able to use the rear view camera on the reviewer mirror--but the normal backup cameras remained non-functioning. I promptly tried opening the camera settings again to reset all of the brightness, contrast, tone, color, and black level settings to the default values... but still, the preview area was black and no image could seen. I've verified the outside of the vehicle... these cameras are not blocked at all. There was nothing that could've cause these to go dark. I drive the vehicle home (~5 miles), and found the camera still not to be working.
Vehicle aggressively and without cause engaged the Automatic Emergency Braking System causing the driver to be slammed against her seat belt and almost having the car in back of us to almost rear end our vehicle. This has happened in the past but it has been a manageable slight deceleration when going around a gentle curve or at the railroad overpass. . This time the incident was intense almost causing a rear end collision. I would add that this severe incident happened when approaching the same railroad overpass in the rain. This has also happened at this intersection in good weather. Under all circumstances there were no obstructions I front of the vehicle. I have read that this problem has occurred in earlier years of Nissan products. In all instances the appropriate system warning light illuminated.
The contact owns a 2020 Infiniti QX80. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V373000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer and the manufacturer were made aware of the issue. The contact had experienced a failure where the vehicle would not start as needed. The contact related the failure to the recall. Parts distribution disconnect. The failure mileage was not available.
THE CRUISE CONTROL IS VERY ABRUPTED WHEN ENGAGING THE RESUME FEATURE. THE CRUISE WILL CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO DOWNSHIFT AND ENGINE TO REV ABOVE 5000 RPMS FOR JUST A COUPLE OF MPH SPEED INCREASE. I BELIEVE THIS A DESIGN FLAW THAT COULD CAUSE A DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR.
The dashboard bulbs went out from 0-40 mph and 6-8 rpms. It seems to be a common issue on Reddit and I have found complaints on the internet.
Similar to other complaints, the instrument cluster lighting is beginning to go dim or completely out starting at the high end of the RPM gauge and the low end of the speedometer gauge. This is an issue during night time driving.
The primary instrument gauge for the QX80 starts to lose illumination from around the speedometer and tachometer. The vehicle has 55,000 miles and is a 2018 model. This is the SECOND time this has happened, with the instrument gauge being replaced first at approximately 32,000 miles for the same reason. Currently the instrument gauge is continuing to lose lighting - making the speedometer impossible to see at night (SAFETY ISSUE). Infiniti Dealership reports that there is a +/- 2 YEAR waitlist for replacement instrument clusters, and that this is a known problem. The same dealership that replaced it a few years ago. This 2nd instrument cluster started going out in the 20-45 mph segment, then 6500-8000 rpm tach, then 0-20 mph.

π Understanding This Data
What is an NHTSA Complaint?
An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Infiniti QX80 has 68 complaints on record across 10 model years.
What is a Safety Recall?
A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Infiniti QX80 has 9 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.
What Are Crash Complaints?
Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 3 of the Infiniti QX80's 68 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β a key safety signal beyond general reliability.
How Is the AI Rating Calculated?
The AI reliability rating (Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. The rating provides a plain-English summary for buyers who want a quick verdict without parsing raw numbers. It is one input in your buying decision β always verify with a VIN-specific report.
Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?
Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.
Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN
Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Infiniti QX80 vehicles on the road β not any specific car. Two Infiniti QX80 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.
What Are NHTSA Investigations?
When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Infiniti QX80 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
