WHEN MY CAR IS SWITCHED INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE, IT WILL JERK VERY LOUDLY THEN PROCEED TO NOT SWITCH INTO ANY GEARS HIGHER THAN 3RD. SOMETIMES WHEN I GO INTO REVERSE, IT WILL JERK AND SWING BACK QUICKLY WITH LITTLE ACCELERATION. IT HAS CONTINUED FOR 5 MONTHS - LOOKING ONLINE SO MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS FAULTY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. *TR
I WAS GOING TO START DRIVING AND WHEN I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE THE SHIFT SCREEN GOT ALL JUMBLED AND MADE A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE, THEN REVERSED AND WENT INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR WOULD HARDLY DRIVE AT ALL THE RPM'S WERE CLOSE TO 2500 AND CAR HARDLY MOVING AT FIRST, THOUGHT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION ITSELF AND FOUND OUT THAT IT IS THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR BY MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. DID NOT HAVE THE ISSUE WITH IT HAPPENING WHILE DRIVING YET BUT I HAVE A KID TO WORRY ABOUT! *TR
TRANSMISSION JERKING WHEN SHIFTING TO 2ND TO 3RD GEAR CODES ARE P0783, P0741, P0700. *TR
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY 2006 SUZUKI VERONA FOR THE PAST 2 1/2 YEARS. WE HAVE OWNED IF FOR ALMOST 3 1/2. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER JUST A YEAR AFTER OWNING IT COMPLAINING OF A CLUNKING NOISE. ALL THEY DID WAS UPDATE THE SOFTWARE ON IT. THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT UNLESS A LIGHT WAS ON. IT WOULD NOT GENERATE A CODE BACK THEN, ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP. NOW 2 1/2 YEARS LATER, THEY SAY THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR IS BAD. AFTER READING SEVERAL FORUMS, IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS HAPPENS A LOT ON THIS TYPE OF CAR AND SUZUKI'S IN GENERAL. IT IS SCHEDULED FOR REPAIR NEXT TUESDAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SUZUKI VERONA. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 5 MPH IN SNOWY WEATHER, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING WHILE TRAVELING UPHILL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ATTEMPTED TO SYNCHRONIZE WITH THE COMPUTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPAIRED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY DUE TO THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WAS HESITANT TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE WITH A SECOND REPAIR TO THE TRANSMISSION PER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. HE WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER TO HAVE REPAIRS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE IN ACCORDANCE WITH HIS AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE POLICY. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SUZUKI VERONA. WHENEVER THE CONTACT ATTEMPTS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, IT WILL NOT ACCELERATE PAST THE FIRST GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE MAIN COMPUTER MODULE, TRANSMISSION MODULE, AND THE THROTTLE BODY ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURES STILL PERSIST. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 12,900. UPDATED 09/01/09 *BF

SO FAR, WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM CAME LOOSE AND FLOPPED AROUND WHILE DRIVING IN SEVERE STORM. TRANSMISSION MAKES A LOUD CLUNK WHEN RE ACCELERATING AT 5 AND 20 MPH. WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM WAS TIGHTENED, NO PROB. SINCE. TRANSMISSION STILL CLUNKS AND HAVE HAD IN TO DEALER 4 TIMES ALREADY. THEY HAVE REPLACED A CONTROL ARM AND A BALL JOINT. THEN HAD TO TAKE BACK TO HAVE STEERING WHEEL REALIGNED DUE TO THEIR NEGLECT. AFTER THAT STEERING WHEEL MADE A CLICKING NOISE FOR ABOUT A WEEK. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIND THE SOURCE OF THE CLUNK OR TO EVEN RE CREATE IT. IT HAPPENS FOR ME DAILY. NEXT CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AT NIGHT WHILE I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING GARAGE. UNABLE TO STEER CAR. TODAY, BRAKES ACTED LIKE THEY WEREN'T GOING TO STOP THE CAR, SOUNDED AND FELT LIKE A SPRING THAT IS BEING DEPRESSED AND NOT ABLE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE LOAD. MY MAIN COMPLAINT,CONCERN IS THAT CAR WILL SHUT OFF IN TRAFFIC AND I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STEER AND WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. ALSO, THAT THE CLUNKING IN TRANSMISSION AND IS A DESIGN DEFECT. *TR
INTERIOR LIGHTS DO NOT DIM BELOW HALF BRIGHTNESS. WITH THE WHITE FACE GAUGES ON THE VERONA THIS IS VERY DISTRACTING AT NIGHT. *NM
This issue pertains to Safety Recall Notice No. XC - All 2004-2006 Suzuki Verona Vehicles - DRL System. Please note, the vehicle manufacturer provided documentation service was performed and the DRL Module (part 38860-84Z21-RX0) was replaced at mileage 49470. My wife and I are the original owner and the mileage is 61,000-62,000 currently. Approximately 1 month ago we experienced a slight odor like something electrical was burning. Recently, we noticed 1) That the Daytime Running Lights glow at first and gradually reach full intensity. 2) When switching from low headlights to high beams, all headlights go completely out for about 6 seconds before coming on gradually. Because Suzuki automobiles are no longer sold in the United States, the nearest support dealer is located 150 miles away. A local auto repair shop diagnosed and determined the DRL Module part mentioned in the original recall needs to be replaced. We contacted the support dealer, who, in turn, contacted Suzuki USA about the issue. Suzuki USA indicates they complied with the original recall and refuse to comply a second time. The original recall service report indicated a $122.60 cost for the part. Currently, Suzuki has the part and wants $294 for it, and they consider the repair to be a billable service. We have not been able to locate any alternate part sources and must rely on Suzuki for this item. I am [XXX] old and if I have to drive 150 miles (one way) to make the repair, it will involve the additional cost of an overnight hotel. My local repair guy can do the repair, which I'm willing to pay for if Suzuki can supply the part at $0 or at least for only their product cost. Otherwise, I do not feel safe driving the car with the possibility of having a fire (per the recall notice). Even if no fire occurs, it certainly is not safe without dependable headlights. Won't you please help us? Thank you in advance for your assistance. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

SCOTT WAS TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY AND ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY; HOWEVER, AS HE ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE, HE NOTICED H WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN, AND THAT IT APPEARED THAT HIS BRAKES HAS GIVEN OUT. HE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE AND PULL TO THE SHOULDER. HE OBSERVED A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE EMANATING FROM HIS VEHICLE. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE AND OPENING THE HOOD, HE SAW MORE SMOKE AND FLAMES BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND FIREWALL. HE ADVISED HIS PASSENGER TO EXIT THE VEHICLE.

The basics
How to read this data
Complaints, recalls, investigations — here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Suzuki Verona, in plain English.
What is an NHTSA Complaint?
An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Suzuki Verona has 216 complaints on record across 5 model years.
What is a Safety Recall?
A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Suzuki Verona has 9 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.
What Are Crash Complaints?
Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 10 of the Suzuki Verona's 216 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.
How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?
The reliability verdict (Poor) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.
Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?
Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.
Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN
Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Suzuki Verona vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Suzuki Verona vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.
What Are NHTSA Investigations?
When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Suzuki Verona has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
