Crash test ratings

NHTSA NCAP crash test ratings

New Car Assessment Program

NCAP crash tests measure how well a vehicle protects occupants in controlled frontal crash, side crash, and rollover scenarios. Stars are awarded per category (5 = safest). These laboratory results are independent of owner complaints and are performed by NHTSA engineers on new production vehicles.

NCAP crash test ratings for this model are not yet loaded or this vehicle was not tested in the years analyzed. NHTSA tests a subset of new vehicles each year. Check nhtsa.gov/ratings directly for the latest results.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEMOct 2019

THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I ATTEMPTED TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL TO CONTINUE FORWARD DUE TO TRAFFIC BEHIND ME, BUT THE CAR BEGAN TO CHOKE. THE CAR BEGAN A 1 TO 2 SECOND REPEATING PATTERN OF JERKING FORWARD QUICKLY, THEN NO PROPULSION FORWARD, THEN JERKED FORWARD, THEN NO PROPULSION, UNTIL I LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IMMEDIATELY CAME ON. THE MECHANIC STATES IT IS RELATED TO THE FUEL PUMP FOR THE CAR. THE CAR HAS ONLY 22,000 MILES AND SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THESE CONCERNS.

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROLSep 2019

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 MASERATI QUATTROPORTE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE EVEN WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED AND WAS TOWED TO FERRARI OF ATLANTA (11875 ALPHARETTA HWY, ROSWELL, GA 30076), BUT NO ERROR CODES WERE FOUND. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROLFeb 2017

WHEN I WOULD RAPIDLY ACCELERATE THE GAS PEDAL WOULD STICK, CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD WHILE CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE. IF I DIDN'T IMMEDIATELY HIT THE BRAKES AND TURN OFF CAR I COULD HAVE EASILY LOST CONTROL WHILE CONTINUING ACCELERATING . THIS HAPPENED TWICE I THEN BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE MASERATI DEALER THE COLLECTION IN CORAL GABLES . I UNDERSTAND THIS MAY HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THE MASERATI GHIBLI .

[XXX] FRUSTRATED NO HELP I GOTTEN FROM RUSNAK MASERATI OF PASADENA. I COMPLAINT. [XXX]. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT I LEASED A NEW 2015 MASERATI QUATTROPORT.. AND ON THE SECOND MONTH AFTER GETTING THE CAR AUGUST, I GOT A LUMP ON THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE PIRELLI P245/35ZR2(96Y)AND I TOOK IT TO T TO THE DEALER AND TOLD ME IT WAS CAUSED BY A POT HOLE AND TO TAKE IT TO A TIRE CENTER. I DID TO SEARS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE TIRE UNABLE TO GET IT..SO I WENT TO KEN TIRE IN MONTEBELLO CALIF AND THEY TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE TIRE BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT MAKING THEM..BUT HE GOT ONE FROM AMAZON AND COST ME 500 DOLLARS AND PLUS. I AGAIN ADVISED THE SALE AGENT [XXX] AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHY DO YOU HAVE THOSE TIRES ON THE CAR YOU LEASE ME THAT THEY ARE HARD TO FIND OR THEY DON'T MAKING ANYMORE THE PIRELLI ZERO P245/35ZR2. SEPTEMBER 21 2016, I WAS DRIVING ON THE 210 FREEWAY PAS CALIF. GOING WEST AND SUDDENLY GOT A BAD FLAT TIRE AND ALMOST CAUSE AN ACCIDENT LUCKY THE CAR NEXT TO ME DEVIATED AND I GOT OUT OF THE RAMP , TIRE IT WAS TORE TO THE RIM. I TOWED THE CAR TO RUSNAK MASERATI PASADENA, TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPEN , AGAIN SAID IT WAS NOT THE TIRE THAT I PROBABLY HIT A POT HOLE AND THAT CAUSED THE TIRE TO BLOW..I WAS MAD AND I TOLD THEM I HAVE NEVER HAD SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH TIRES UNTIL NOW WITH THE MASERATI QUATTRPORT , THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, I DECIDED TO PAY IT AND T COST ME $715 DOLLARS TO REPAIR AND IT TOOK 3 DAYS. AND THIS TIME WAS THE REAR DRIVER PASSENGER SIDE.PIRELLI ZERO P285/30ZR2. I BELIEVE THAT THIS CAR HAS A BAD DESIGN WITH THOSE TIRE THEY NEED TO RECALL THOSE TIRES ON THIS CAR. I BELIEVE THAT SOME IS GOING TO GET KILL IN AN ACCIDENT IF THEY DO NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I DID WROTE TO PIRELLI AND COMPLAINT. VISIBILITY/WIPERFeb 2016

AT NIGHT THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT DISPERSION OF ALL LIGHTS THAT ARE REFLECTED FROM THE REARVIEW MIRROR. THE PROBLEM IS MOST ACUTE FROM THE HEADLIGHTS OF ALL VEHICLES BEHIND THAT ARE REFLECTED AS GOING UP AND DOWN IN HUGE STREAKS AND SOMETIMES IN RAINBOW COLORS. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE MASERATI DEALER OF SILICON VALLEY IN REDWOOD CITY, CA, WHO INVESTIGATED AND SAID THE ISSUE WAS WITH ALL THE QUATTROPORTE'S ON THE 2015 AND 2016 MODELS THEY HAD IN STOCK. THEY CONCLUDED THIS AS A DESIGN CONDITION WITH THE PHOTOCHROMIC IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR. SEE ATTACHED SERVICE COMPLAINT RECORD FOR REFERENCE. IN COROLLARY, THEY HAD ME ESCALATE THE MATTER DIRECTLY TO MASERATI, WHO AFTER THEIR RESEARCH (CASE# 51725) ARE SAYING THIS TO BE NORMAL AND WITHIN DESIGN SPECS SINCE ITS THE SAME CONDITION WITH ALL THEIR QUATTROPORTE'S. THERE WERE EXPRESSLY CLEAR IN NOT OFFERING ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE IN RESOLVING THE ISSUE. MY CONCERN PRIMARILY AND CHIEFLY STEMS FROM THIS BEING A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT AT NIGHT TO TELL BETWEEN VEHICLES AND PARTICULARLY WHEN CHANGING LANES. I HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE.

EXTERIOR LIGHTINGDec 2014

THERE IS AN AWFUL GLARE FROM ANY HEADLIGHTS BEHIND ME. THE HEAD LIGHTS FROM ALL THE CARS BEHIND YOU GO UP AND DOWN IN THESE HUGE STREAKS AND IT IS USUALLY THE COLOR OF A RAINBOW. MASERATI SAYS THAT IS NORMAL. IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IT IS HARD TO SEE BEHIND YOU WHEN YOU WANT TO CHANGE LANES. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS ON ANY OTHER CAR. IT IS DEFINITELY FROM THE REAR GLASS, BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM FROM THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS. YOU ALSO NOTICE IT WHEN YOU TURN AROUND SO IT IS NOT THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. THEY OFFERED TO PUT AN ANTI GLARE PROTECTOR ON THE REAR GLASS. WE TRIED IT OUT BUT IT DIDN'T FIX THE GLARE. *TR

CrashVEHICLE SPEED CONTROLDec 2019

I WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IN "SPORT" MODE. I ACCELERATED FROM A STOPPED POSITION, RATHER AGGRESSIVELY TO GET UP TO SPEED (ABOUT 30-35 MPH). WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNCOMMANDED. I PRESSED THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD, BUT THE ENGINE REMAINED AT FULL POWER ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FORWARD. I WAS NEARLY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT THE ENGINE OVERPOWERED ME WITH BOTH FEET STANDING ON BRAKE PEDAL. IT SHUDDERED FORWARD ABOUT 25 FEET, MOVING AT LESS THAN 5MPH, ALMOST LIKE THE ANTILOCK BRAKES WERE CAPTURING AND RELEASING, UNTIL I STRUCK A VEHICLE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. THE DISPLAY READ "SERVICE ENGINE THROTTLE CONTROL." ONCE I STRUCK THE OTHER VEHICLE, MY VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND THE ENGINE FINALLY STOPPED REVVING. THE FLOOR MATS WERE IN THEIR PROPER PLACE, SO THEY WERE NOT A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. THIS WAS ACTUALLY THE SECOND TIME THAT THE CAR HAD ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, BOTH OCCURRING IN CONJUNCTION WITH AGGRESSIVE APPLICATION OF THE GAS PEDAL. THE FIRST TIME I WAS ABLE TO OVERCOME IT FAIRLY QUICKLY, AND THOUGHT IT WAS JUST AN ANOMALY. IT MAY BE IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE MANUFACTURER APPROVED AND COMPLETELY REPLACED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (WHICH I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP WAS A RARE EVENT) ONLY 2 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, DUE TO A VIRTUAL ELECTRONIC MELTDOWN WITH THE ENGINE CONTROL. BOTH UNCOMMANDED ACCELERATION EVENTS OCCURRED AFTER THIS REPLACEMENT. AFTER THE "INVESTIGATION" BY THE MANUFACTURER, THEY CLAIM THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND ACCEPTED NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE INCIDENT, NOR DID THEY TAKE ANY CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TO ENSURE OUR FUTURE SAFETY. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 4500 MILES. I'VE HAD IT FOR JUST UNDER 1 YEAR, AND IT HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE NEARLY 2 FULL MOUTHS WITH THREE ELECTRONIC/ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS.

VISIBILITY/WIPEROct 2024

Maserati has had several complaints of the leather dashboard seperating from the dashboard which becomes a visibility issue while driving it the leather flops up high enough and front of the windshield. They need to issue a recall on these dashboards. And they won't help you if your car is out of warranty.

SEAT BELTSJun 2021

The contact owns a 2021 Maserati Quattroporte. The contact stated that while she was sitting in the rear passenger seat with the seat belt latched it was strangling her as the seat belt was located right behind her shoulder. The purchasing dealer in Dallas, Texas was contacted and made aware of the failure but informed the contact to contact a local New York dealer. The dealer Gold Coast Maserati (732 Northern Blvd, Great Neck, NY 11021) was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there were no adjustments to the seat belt. The contact also contacted several other dealers whom informed her that the rear seat belts could not be adjusted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 650.

SEAT BELTSJun 2021

The back seat - seat belt strangles the neck ( my husband tried it & it was the sane) & if in accident the seat belt will break the neck or cause death & there is no way to adjust even when var was not moving the seat belt left marks on my neck - when traveling at 40 miles per hour it was excruciatingly painful - this is a major safety problem since wearing a seatbelt is totally necessary - dealer is unresponsive. There are other safety issues with this car & I just learned there is no crash test data

THE RECALL IS FOR SAFETY ISSUES AND WE CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR. WE TRIED CONTACTING KENNY TRADER AND FRANK MORENO AT OGARA WESTLAKE VILLAGE MASERTI DEALER SEVERAL TIMES VIA PHONE AND EMAIL TO NO AVAIL. I CONTACTED MASERTIA NORTH AMERICA AND SPOKE WITH ALICIA I BELIEVE. SHE PROMISED TO CALL ME BACK AND I NEVER HEARD BACK. I CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR IT WILL JUST STOP BASED ON THE LETTER RECEIVED. I WANT MASERTI TO PICK IT AND REPAIR IT AND RETURN IT TO ME VIA TOW. THANK YOU

These pages show model-year patterns across 10 years. Enter a VIN to verify the exact vehicle's accident history, title brands, odometer records, and open recall status before purchase.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations — here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Maserati Quattroporte, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Maserati Quattroporte has 12 complaints on record across 10 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Maserati Quattroporte has 27 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 1 of the Maserati Quattroporte's 12 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Good) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Maserati Quattroporte vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Maserati Quattroporte vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Maserati Quattroporte has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
