⭐ NHTSA NCAP Crash Test Ratings

New Car Assessment Program

NCAP crash tests measure how well a vehicle protects occupants in controlled frontal crash, side crash, and rollover scenarios. Stars are awarded per category (5 = safest). These laboratory results are independent of owner complaints and are performed by NHTSA engineers on new production vehicles.

NCAP crash test ratings for this model are not yet loaded or this vehicle was not tested in the years analyzed. NHTSA tests a subset of new vehicles each year. Check nhtsa.gov/ratings directly for the latest results.

Maserati has had several complaints of the leather dashboard seperating from the dashboard which becomes a visibility issue while driving it the leather flops up high enough and front of the windshield. They need to issue a recall on these dashboards. And they won't help you if your car is out of warranty.

The contact owns a 2021 Maserati Quattroporte. The contact stated that while she was sitting in the rear passenger seat with the seat belt latched it was strangling her as the seat belt was located right behind her shoulder. The purchasing dealer in Dallas, Texas was contacted and made aware of the failure but informed the contact to contact a local New York dealer. The dealer Gold Coast Maserati (732 Northern Blvd, Great Neck, NY 11021) was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there were no adjustments to the seat belt. The contact also contacted several other dealers whom informed her that the rear seat belts could not be adjusted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 650.

SEAT BELTSJun 2021

The back seat - seat belt strangles the neck ( my husband tried it & it was the sane) & if in accident the seat belt will break the neck or cause death & there is no way to adjust even when var was not moving the seat belt left marks on my neck - when traveling at 40 miles per hour it was excruciatingly painful - this is a major safety problem since wearing a seatbelt is totally necessary - dealer is unresponsive. There are other safety issues with this car & I just learned there is no crash test data

πŸ’₯ CrashVEHICLE SPEED CONTROLDec 2019

I WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IN "SPORT" MODE. I ACCELERATED FROM A STOPPED POSITION, RATHER AGGRESSIVELY TO GET UP TO SPEED (ABOUT 30-35 MPH). WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNCOMMANDED. I PRESSED THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD, BUT THE ENGINE REMAINED AT FULL POWER ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FORWARD. I WAS NEARLY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT THE ENGINE OVERPOWERED ME WITH BOTH FEET STANDING ON BRAKE PEDAL. IT SHUDDERED FORWARD ABOUT 25 FEET, MOVING AT LESS THAN 5MPH, ALMOST LIKE THE ANTILOCK BRAKES WERE CAPTURING AND RELEASING, UNTIL I STRUCK A VEHICLE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. THE DISPLAY READ "SERVICE ENGINE THROTTLE CONTROL." ONCE I STRUCK THE OTHER VEHICLE, MY VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND THE ENGINE FINALLY STOPPED REVVING. THE FLOOR MATS WERE IN THEIR PROPER PLACE, SO THEY WERE NOT A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. THIS WAS ACTUALLY THE SECOND TIME THAT THE CAR HAD ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, BOTH OCCURRING IN CONJUNCTION WITH AGGRESSIVE APPLICATION OF THE GAS PEDAL. THE FIRST TIME I WAS ABLE TO OVERCOME IT FAIRLY QUICKLY, AND THOUGHT IT WAS JUST AN ANOMALY. IT MAY BE IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE MANUFACTURER APPROVED AND COMPLETELY REPLACED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (WHICH I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP WAS A RARE EVENT) ONLY 2 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, DUE TO A VIRTUAL ELECTRONIC MELTDOWN WITH THE ENGINE CONTROL. BOTH UNCOMMANDED ACCELERATION EVENTS OCCURRED AFTER THIS REPLACEMENT. AFTER THE "INVESTIGATION" BY THE MANUFACTURER, THEY CLAIM THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND ACCEPTED NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE INCIDENT, NOR DID THEY TAKE ANY CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TO ENSURE OUR FUTURE SAFETY. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 4500 MILES. I'VE HAD IT FOR JUST UNDER 1 YEAR, AND IT HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE NEARLY 2 FULL MOUTHS WITH THREE ELECTRONIC/ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS.

UNKNOWN OR OTHERJun 2018

THE RECALL IS FOR SAFETY ISSUES AND WE CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR. WE TRIED CONTACTING KENNY TRADER AND FRANK MORENO AT OGARA WESTLAKE VILLAGE MASERTI DEALER SEVERAL TIMES VIA PHONE AND EMAIL TO NO AVAIL. I CONTACTED MASERTIA NORTH AMERICA AND SPOKE WITH ALICIA I BELIEVE. SHE PROMISED TO CALL ME BACK AND I NEVER HEARD BACK. I CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR IT WILL JUST STOP BASED ON THE LETTER RECEIVED. I WANT MASERTI TO PICK IT AND REPAIR IT AND RETURN IT TO ME VIA TOW. THANK YOU

πŸ“– Understanding This Data

πŸ“‹

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β€” but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Maserati Quattroporte has 6 complaints on record across 10 model years.

πŸ””

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Maserati Quattroporte has 17 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

πŸ’₯

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 1 of the Maserati Quattroporte's 6 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β€” a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

🧭

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Excellent) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

πŸ“Š

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β€” simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

πŸ”

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Maserati Quattroporte vehicles on the road β€” not any specific car. Two Maserati Quattroporte vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

πŸ”Ž

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β€” NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Maserati Quattroporte has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
