⭐ NHTSA NCAP Crash Test Ratings

New Car Assessment Program

NCAP crash tests measure how well a vehicle protects occupants in controlled frontal crash, side crash, and rollover scenarios. Stars are awarded per category (5 = safest). These laboratory results are independent of owner complaints and are performed by NHTSA engineers on new production vehicles.

NCAP crash test ratings for this model are not yet loaded or this vehicle was not tested in the years analyzed. NHTSA tests a subset of new vehicles each year. Check nhtsa.gov/ratings directly for the latest results.

VISIBILITY/WIPERMay 2026

On February 6, 2026, my wife was operating our 2026 Lucid Gravity when she shifted into reverse. The rearview/backup camera failed to activate on the center display. Simultaneously, the electronic gear selector became unresponsive and would not change gears. The combined failure resulted in a near-collision; no impact or injuries occurred. Both affected systems remain in the vehicle and are available for inspection upon request. The rearview camera is federally required equipment under FMVSS No. 111. Its failure to display when reverse was selected, combined with an unresponsive gear selector, left the driver with neither rear visibility nor the ability to shift out of gear to avoid a hazard. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. The defect was reported to Lucid Motors by email on February 9, 2026. As of this filing, Lucid has not scheduled a diagnostic appointment for this failure, and no technician has inspected the camera or gear selector. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance, or any other party in connection with this incident. Prior to the February 6 failure, the vehicle displayed persistent warnings since delivery, including a non-dismissible dashboard warning symbol and error messages for the surround view camera, rear steering, high beam assist, and headlights. These were first observed within days of delivery on December 16, 2025, and formally reported to Lucid on January 7, 2026. Whether these warnings were directly related to the backup camera or gear selector failure is UNKNOWN; my best assessment is that the surround view camera error and dashboard warning may have been early indicators of a broader camera or software fault, though this has not been diagnosed by the manufacturer.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINEMay 2026

Vehicle was driving at 50-55 MPH on [XXX] . The vehicle immediately gave multiple warning systems such as "Dream Drive Unavailable" "Regenerative Braking unavailable, use brake pedal" "Hold unavailable" "Dynamic handling unavailable" "Car will Power off in 5 minutes" and the car started applying the breaks and went into a "turtle" mode. It went from 50 miles per hour down to 35 miles per hour in the middle of the road with traffic. I had my three children, my wife, my grandmother, and my aunt in the car with me. We were almost rear ended, but we were able to move to the side and take the backroads to the house as we were 1 mile away. The car refused to drive after the 5 minute count down, and a tow company took the car to the Lucid dealership. Since 5/15/2026, the car has been at the same spot in the dealership, as they also have not been able to turn it on. They're also unable to look at it, due to a large amount of issues they have with other cars and lack of staff. The car is undriveable, has safety issues, and almost caused an accident with 7 passengers in the car. I would like Lucid to buy back the car, pay me back my down payment, and reimburse my last month of payment as I haven't been able to drive the car. They also have no timeline to when they will be able to look at the car, or repair it. Other users experience similar issues with the Lucid Gravity 2026 model, and numerous reports are online. SEATS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTUREMay 2026

When you press the button in the middle row to fold the seat forward so that the rear passenger can go to the back, the force of the chair is very strong. It almost knocked me out because my head was there and it flung forward. Also the middle seat on the middle row doesn't latch. You really have to use all your force to have it latch. The dream drive (auto drive) on the lucid is activated by the buttons on the steering wheel. The buttons do not work all the time. Sometimes I have to press it 5 times for it to disengage. It's very dangerous if it is in an emergency situation if the system can't turn off. I have it on video and the service center knows about it. There is no fix because they said they can try to replace the steering wheel again but it didn't work the last time.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPERMay 2026

The auto wipers either go too fast or don’t turn on early enough just not right . The hands free phone is useless it’s like a bad connection always. Tried Bluetooth only and car play. Music through either works fine.

πŸ₯ 1 InjurySEATSApr 2026

The contact owns a 2026 Lucid Gravity. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the seat compartment located in the second row became inoperable. The contact stated that the seat compartment unexpectedly fell and struck the contact. The contact sustained bruising to the left side of the body, as well as neck, arm, and rib injuries. No medical attention was sought. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact expressed concern that the seat compartment is unsafe and poses a potential hazard, particularly if a child had been seated in that area at the time of the incident. The failure mileage was approximately 3,900.

BACK OVER PREVENTIONApr 2026

I took delivery Dec 9 2025. Since that date it is evident that the backup (rear-view) camera was never properly calibrated - nor were the othe backup parking assist collision avoidance systems. The system and camera indicate 25-30 inches clearance at the point that the rear bumper makes contact with fixed objects behind the car! Had this been a child instead of a wall - injuries would certainly have occurred. The manufacturer tells me it will be at least June before they will even look at the system

UNKNOWN OR OTHERMar 2026

Components are the HEAD UP DISPLAY (HUD) and the WINDSHIELD. The HUD mechanism is located on, and in, the dashboard. It projects/displays driving information on to the windshield at eye level of driver. During day time, typically bright, sunny days, the HUD also casts a blue reflection onto the windshield, typically a blue oval that can vary in size depending on direction of travel and location of sun. It also casts a wavering, and fluttering, flag like reflection on top of, to the side of, and much bigger than the blue oval. It also has brightness to it as it flutters and waves. All of this is primarily a nuisance, and somewhat of a distraction, although because it is an opaque reflection, the driver can see through the reflection to the roadway. To the extent it is a distraction it poses a safety concern. That, however, is not the major safety concern. Again, depending on the direction of driving and the location of the sun, periodically a bright, blinding, spotlight reflection is cast on the windshield causing momentary blindness to the driver. To avoid danger, the driver must stop (impossible to do in moving traffic), change direction (impossible to do immediately in moving traffic) or move his/her head to try to momentarily diminish, or avoid, the intense glare of the spotlight on the eyes until a stop, or change in direction, is possible. Obviously, while safety belted into the driver's seat, and operating a moving vehicle, moving one's head, even slightly, is difficult. The danger to, and the safety of, the driver, passengers in the vehicle, if any, and other vehicles on the roadway, is manifest. The problem, to some extent, had been confirmed by the dealer local service center. The response has been that, at least at the present time, nothing can be done to remediate the problem. There are no, nor have been, any warnings, notifications or messages concerning this problem. A browsing of the internet indicates other Gravity owners have experienced the problem

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEJan 2026

DreamDrive Pro 2 is extremely dangerous and should have an immediate STOP order for all Lucids. It fails to identify road hazards and take evasive action. In multiple instances, the car has accelerated towards a stopped object and has abruptly removed autonomous driving while engaged during turns, resulting in the car veering towards obstacles.

πŸ“– Understanding This Data

πŸ“‹

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β€” but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Lucid Gravity has 8 complaints on record across 2 model years.

πŸ””

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Lucid Gravity has 5 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

πŸ’₯

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 0 of the Lucid Gravity's 8 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β€” a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

🧭

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Excellent) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

πŸ“Š

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β€” simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

πŸ”

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Lucid Gravity vehicles on the road β€” not any specific car. Two Lucid Gravity vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

πŸ”Ž

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β€” NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Lucid Gravity has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
