RACING FLARE-UP RPM'S AND ACCELERATION UPON BRAKING INTERMITTINGLY. TRUCK ACCELERATES AT ANY TIME AT A HIGH SPEED SUPPOSEDLY CANNOT BE DUPLICATED UPON TESTING AT DEALERSHIP. FORD DENIED UNTIL TSB WAS FOUND AT THE FORD CORPORATION DATED JUNE 2008. UPON 2ND VISIT TO MECHANIC PERFORMED RPM FLARE-UP FIX ON TRUCK TO THIS TSB. TRUCK STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE 2008 MECHANIC STILL CANNOT DUPLICATE. CANNOT GET RESOLUTION PROBLEM VERY DANGEROUS TO PEDESTIANS AND OURSELVES. The contact owns a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated, and the instrument panel failed to display properly. The contact also stated that after refueling the vehicle, there was an abnormally strong gasoline odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the fuel tank could be filled. The contact also stated that the windshield wipers occasionally operated independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the fuel sensor and the instrument cluster had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
BRAKE LINE LOCATED NEXT TO STEERING COLUMN IS SO CLOSE THE STEERING COLUMN RUBBED AND WORE A HOLE INTO THE BRAKE LINE CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE.
THE FAIL SAFE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED OR WHEN THE FUEL GAGE GETS LOW. I HAVE TO TURN MY TRUCK OFF, WAIT A FEW MINUTES , THEN TURN IT BACK ON FOR IT TO COOPERATE CORRECTLY. WHILE THE LIGHT IS ON IT DRIVES SLUGGISHLY.
DURING A 100K MILE TUNE UP, I ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE SPARK PLUGS. OUT OF 3 PLUGS, 2 BROKE OFF IN ENGINE BLOCK. THE TRUCK WAS THEN TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO BROKE OFF 3 MORE. THEY TOLD ME THAT FORD IS VERY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT COST ME $800 TO HAVE SPARK PLUGS REMOVED. NOW IT APPEARS THAT A PART OF THE OLD PLUG BROKE OFF INTO THE CYLINDER HEAD, NOT REMOVED BY ORIGINAL SHOP, CAUSING MORE DAMAGE THAT IS CURRENTLY BEING LOOKED AT BY ANOTHER SHOP.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN MARK LT. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT LOST ALL BRAKE AND POWER STEERING FUNCTIONALITY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN MARK LT. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THERE MIGHT BE A FAILURE WITH THE AIR BAG MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
THE ENGINE STOP RUNNING SOMETIMES. IT SAYS "ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE" NEED TO COMPLETELY STOP AND RESTART THE ENGINE.. THEN OKAY.. IT HAPPENS NOT ONLY ONCE BUT FEW TIMES ALREADY..IT HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION..RUNNING AROUND 40 TO 60 MILES MPH.
IN 2012, WE BOUGHT A USED MARK LT WITH 60K MILES. THE VEHICLE SINCE STALLED TWICE AFTER REACHING 100K+ MILES AND DRAINING TWO BATTERY, SHUTTING DOWN THE ENGINE WITHOUT WARNING AT A LOW SPEED AND WHILE TRYING TO TURN. THIS RENDERED THE BRAKES AND POWER STEERING USELESS - WE JUST BARELY AVOIDED FRONTAL COLLISION WITH STREET SIGNS AND A BRIDGE AS WELL AS ALMOST BEING REAR-ENDED BY DRIVER BEHIND US. FORTUNATELY, BOTH WERE AT LOW SPEED AND ON LOCAL RURAL ROADS. ALSO, THE VEHICLE HAS BEGAN HESITATING WHEN ACCELERATING MOSTLY @ 45-50 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT RE-CREATE ISSUES AFTER FIRST INCIDENT AND THE DIAGNOSTICS DID NOT SHOW ANY ERROR CODES. FORD ISSUED TSB'S IN 2008 DESCRIBING " THE ENGINE PROBLEMS ARE THE RESULT OF DEFECTS IN THE FOLLOWING VEHICLE SYSTEMS AND COMPONENTS: ...POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM), ...TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM, ...ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL (ETC) AND/OR THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY" WHICH CAN LEAD TO THE FOLLOWING PERFORMANCE AND SAFETY ISSUES " ACCELERATION HESITATION, LOSS OF REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE, STALLING, LOSS OF POWER (INCL. LOSS OF POWER AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED), SUDDEN AND INTERMITTENT DECELERATION AND OTHER SIMILAR AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING MALFUNCTIONS." SEVERAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE DIRECTLY TO NHTSA. IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE THAT THE OEM IS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE WITH THIS PRACTICE IN THE NAME OF PROFIT AND IS NOT REQUIRED RECTIFY THE DEFECTS IMMEDIATELY AND CONTINUES PLACING CUSTOMERS IN DANGER. THE RECENT GM CASE SHOULD HAVE TAUGHT US ALL A LESSON.
FAULTY CODE COMES ON AT BETWEEN 50 _ 60 MPH AND THE STERRING AND BRAKES LOCKES UP AND ENGINE SHUTS OFF

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE BRAKES FAILED. THE FAILURES RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN MARK LT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOORS COULD BE UNLOCKED BY ANY LINCOLN MARK LT KEY AND NOT JUST THE KEY PROVIDED FOR HIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN MARK LT. WHILE EXAMINING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S WINDOW DROPPED DOWN INTO THE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN MARK LT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE ENGINE LOST POWER CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE CONTACT MERGED THE VEHICLE ONTO THE SHOULDER WHERE IT RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. THE ENGINE SAFE LIGHT ILLUMINATED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED; HOWEVER, THERE WERE NO CODES INDICATING THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,300.
I HAVE A POWERTRAIN WARRANTY FOR MY TRUCK AN FORD SAYS I HAVE SLUDGE IN ENGINE AN I GAVE THEM ALL OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS MY WARRANTY IS UP IN OCT 2011 AN FORD IS DYING TO FIX IT PLEASE HELP. *TR
I PICKED UP MY TRUCK FROM DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL AND WARRANTY ISSUES. DROVE AN HOUR AND A HALF, PARKED MY CAR. RETURNED HOME THAT HOUR AND A HALF, CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT,CLOSE TO HOME. WHILE I WAS STOPPED THE TRUCK ACCELERATED, NOW WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, I STILL HIT THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. FORTUNATELY DUE TO MY QUICK REACTION, THE DAMAGE WAS ONLY TO MY BUMPER. NONE TO THE OTHER CAR. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THEM IF WHEN THEY HAD THE DASHBOARD ALL APART FOR 2 DAYS, COULD THEY HAVE DONE SOMETHING? OF COURSE THEY SAID NO. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY FOOT WAS PROBABLY ON BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME? I LOOKED AT IT AND THEY ARE NOT THAT CLOSE TOGETHER. ALSO I WAS ALREADY AT A COMPLETE STOP WHEN IT HAPPENED. I AM TO SCARED TO GET CLOSE TO ANY CAR NOW. I HAVE ONLY DROVE THE CAR AS NEEDED, FOR FEAR IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. IT'S BEEN 2 DAYS NOW, IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN. YET. I HAVE BEEN WITH THIS TRUCK SINCE IT WAS NEW, THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. *TR
2006 LINCOLN MARK LT WENT INTO "ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE" FOR NO REASON. THIS CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION WITH THE TRUCK GOING INTO AN IDLE. PULLED TRUCK OVER AND RESTARTED ENGINE. *TR

The basics
How to read this data
Complaints, recalls, investigations — here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Lincoln MARK LT, in plain English.
What is an NHTSA Complaint?
An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Lincoln MARK LT has 40 complaints on record across 3 model years.
What is a Safety Recall?
A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Lincoln MARK LT has 5 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.
What Are Crash Complaints?
Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 8 of the Lincoln MARK LT's 40 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.
How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?
The reliability verdict (Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.
Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?
Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.
Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN
Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Lincoln MARK LT vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Lincoln MARK LT vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.
What Are NHTSA Investigations?
When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Lincoln MARK LT has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
