Symptoms of failure was present prior to complete failure. At highway speed, vehicle sometimes resisted steering input. At 20-30mph, steering wanders side to side and fights my steering inputs. When complete failure occurred, steering became difficult at low speed, parking situations. No warning or error message on dash. Vehicle was towed to dealer where they determined the electric motor on the steering rack suffered an internal failure. When disconnected from power, the steering rack was smooth, albeit unassisted. When connected to power, the steering rack was stiff and difficult to turn. It was determined that the electric motor resisted steering input rather than assist. Steering racks used by a range of Jaguar Land Rover products in this period also suffered similar internal failures.

I have been encountering a persistent issue with the engine, which exhibits symptoms of underperformance, occasionally necessitating a complete stop. Additionally, the ABS warning light activates intermittently without providing any diagnostic codes before subsequently disappearing. A recent diagnostic check identified several minor concerns. I've also observed a degradation in the vehicle's handling characteristics, paired with a "Stability Control No Longer Available" warning message. I have ruled out a fuse-related issue, as all fuses have been assessed and found to be functional. Furthermore, my vehicle seems subject to additional recall considerations. Reports of stability control failures have emerged in various Jaguar models, including the F-Type, typically attributable to sensor failures or malfunctions within the electronic control module. Common culprits for these stability control issues include faulty wheel speed sensors or problems with the ABS control module. Such malfunctions frequently trigger warning lights, suggesting compromised efficiency in the stability control system and its associated subsystems. This instability resulted in me temporarily losing control of the vehicle, culminating in a 180-degree spin and subsequent collision. Reports online: AI Overview Reports of stability control system failures in certain Jaguar models, including the F-Type, stemming from faulty wheel speed sensors or ABS control module issues, could potentially increase the risk of an accident.Β Here's why: Compromised Stability and Traction: The stability control system (DSC in Jaguar) helps maintain vehicle stability by detecting and mitigating loss of traction or skidding by adjusting engine power and applying brakes to individual wheels. When it malfunctions, you may experience difficulty maintaining control, especially during sharp turns, evasive maneuvers, or on slippery surfaces, potentially leading to skidding and loss of control.
The Rear Differential started making an odd noise. Took it to the dealer where it is now and they said it needs a new rear differential. They are blaming the tires...
I was traveling at the legal speed limit of 70 mph on the freeway with no vehicles within 50 yards of my vehicle in all directions. I had been driving for about an hour and was on a bluetooth connected phone call through the car speakers when I heard the sound of glass popping and shattering over my left shoulder. First, I looked in the rear view mirror to see if the hatch window had shattered, but it had not. Next, I looked over my left shoulder at the driver side quarter window, the vehicle only has two seats so there is no back door window, and saw that it was completely shattered but held in place with the protective film car windows are required to have. I existed the freeway the first chance that I had, and pulled into a lot to inspect the window. There were no indications of any entry projectile such as a rock, debris from the road, or even the remote chance a bullet or BB from a BB gun. In other words, the window had just shattered on it's own. I was able to purchase clear packaging tape to put over the entire exterior surface of the window so that I could continue my drive home. I still have the shattered window that was replaced on the vehicle and was able to inspect it again after it was removed from the car. Again, there were no signs of anything hitting the window causing it to shatter.
I own a 2016 Jaguar F-Type R. Some of these cars have an inherent manufacturing flaw with the coating on the trim pieces. From my research I discovered that this is a wide ranging problem for their vehicles in geographic locations that are consistently hot. Jaguar Land Rover North America is well aware of this problem. On 1/24/20 I brought my vehicle in for service. On this service call the vehicle was under warranty. I pointed out the issue with the right side vent trim piece, the worst of the deteriorating parts. The coating was deteriorating from the heat. In these cases they start to peel or become sticky like rubber cement. The other trim pieces also needed to be replaced. They replaced the old flawed part with a new flawed part. For this reason I thought it useless to have the other failing parts replaced, as they would eventually deteriorate. I discovered that new replacement parts were available, that could have been replaced under warranty, that do not have the deterioration issue. On 11/23/20 I contacted JLR corp and requested they replace the parts as an under warranty issue, with the upgraded components, which they could have under warranty. They denied this because the vehicle was now past warranty. After months of negotiation they agreed to give me an 80% discount on the upgraded parts. This however still cost me $967.80. This does not seem ethical or fair to me. They were notified of this issue while still under warranty. Furthermore, I wonder If this should have been a recall issue. Either way, I am requesting a refund.

THIS CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH THE 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. WHEN SHIFTING UP, EVEN IF YOU TAKE YOU FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR COMPLETELY, THE ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR INPUT AS IT REMAINS AT THE RPM WHEN THE SHIFT WAS INITIATED ( 3500 RPM AS AN EXAMPLE ) FOR OVER A SECOND, DROPS 200 RPM THEN INCREASES 50 RPM AND THEN FINALLY WILL DROP TO IDLE. THE ENGINE IS NOT RESPONDING TO THROTTLE INPUT WHEN SHIFTING THIS LEAVES THE ENGINE AT A MUCH HIGHER RPM WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT UP AND MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT SMOOTHLY SINCE THE ENGINE IS REVVING TO HIGH FOR THE NEXT SELECTED UP SHIFT. IT CAUSES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHEN SHIFTING BECAUSE THE ENGINE SPEED IS TOO HIGH FOR THE NEXT GEAR SELECTION. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. IT NEVER NOT DOES IT. THE DATE BELOW IS JUST TODAYS DATE. AND IT HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS. I BOUGHT THE CAR AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED. IT HAD 1031 MILES WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I REALIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING AFTER DRIVING FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES.
FOLLOWING "REPAIRS" AT THE DEALERSHIP ON COOLING SYSTEM, CAR NOTIFIED ME OF OVERHEATING HALF WAY HOME WHILE ON HIGHWAY. AFTER NEARLY CRASHING AND BEING HIT IN TRYING TO PULL OVER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, I OPENED THE HOOD TO FIND THE COOLENT LINES HAD BEEN SHAVED AND REPAIRS IN OTHER AREAS VERY POORLY DONE. CAR CONSTANTLY IS LEAKING COOLANT AND OIL. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE BATTERY 4 TIMES AND THE CAR REQUIRES DAILY JUMP STARTING. THE CAR PAINT INDICATED A REPAINT JOB WHEN DEL8VERED TO ME WITH 100 MILES OF IT. AFTER CLAIMING TO HAVE REALIGNED THE TIRES AFTER MY FRONTS WENT BAD AFTER 5000 MILES, I DISCOVERED THAT THEY HAD NOT BEEN BALANCED NOR ALIGNED. I LEFT ONE WHEEL NUT LOSE BEFORE SERVICE ON EACH TIRE AND EACH WAS STILL LOSE AFTER. JAGUAR HAS DEFRAUDED ME ON MULTIPLE LEVELS, THREATENED ME FOR USING A OB2 CAR CODE READER AND GENERALLY COMMITTED MULTIPLE CORPORATE CRIMES FOR WHICH I AM SEEKING SIGNIFICANT ACTION. I AM BASED IN NASHVILLE. DESPITE 23 TRIPS TO THE DEALER IN 5 MONTHS, JAGUAR BLAMED ALL THE CARS PROBLEMS ON NON EXISTENT MODIFICATIONS THEY ACCUSED ME OF INSTALLING WITHOUT WARRANT AND CONTRADICTORY TO WHAT THEIR OWN SERVICE MANAGER NEW TO BE FACT.
WHEN CHANGING LANES @ APP. 45MPH, THE CAR INITIALLY FELT AS IF IT WOULD ROLL OVER. THE CAR THEN SWERVED RIGHT AND LEFT , NEARLY PUSHING ME INTO THE TRAFFIC IN THE NEXT LANE. STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, REQUIRING MY FULL STRENGTH. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE CAR STRAIGHTENED AND STEERING EFFORT RETURNED TO NORMAL.THIS OCCURRED ON A SMOOTH, 4-LANE ROAD WHICH WAS DRY. JAGUAR SERVICE PERSONNEL WERE AWARE OF SIMILAR ISSUES BUT COLD NOT IDENTIFY A CAUSE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JAGUAR F-TYPE. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
THE FLYWHEEL MALFUNCTIONED ON MY JAGUAR F-TYPE BUT JAGUAR, EVEN THOUGH THEY UPDATED THE PART NUMBERS FOR THE FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH, AND DESPITE THE FACT THAT ANY MALFUNCTION WITH THE FLYWHEEL IS GOING TO COMPROMISE THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY AS THEY ARE CONNECTED MECHANICALLY, ARE REFUSING TO CHANGE THE CLUTCH AND ONLY THE FLYWHEEL. THE CLUTCH/FLYWHEEL FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY. THE CAR BECAME HARDER AND HARDER TO SHIFT AND THEN WOULDN'T GO INTO GEAR AT ALL. I STOPPED TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART OR GO INTO GEAR WITHOUT GREAT FORCE AND THEN REQUIRED AS MUCH FORCE TO TAKE IT OUT OF GEAR.
The headliner of the car completely separated from the vehicle. If this happened during driving it would have prevented seeing the road. When presented with the issue the local Jaguar dealer indicated they have had other cars suffer the same issue. It is a known defect that Jaguar has not notified or recalled the vehicle.
Sudden loss of coolant while driving, without any prior warning lights. In my opinion that is unacceptable in a car with a little over 30k miles. F-Type forums all over the world would indicate this is a relatively common issue with some of the pipes under the supercharger being the suspected issue. Enough of an issue that I believe Jaguar redesigned those parts for newer model years, however there is no TSB for older cars at the moment. The current "solution" is owners updating the part themselves or having a shop/dealer replace the whole cooling system at owner's expense after there's a failure. Luckily this happened to me at low speed, but dropping all the coolant onto the road could be dangerous at highway speeds. I suppose there'd also be a risk of burns if it happened with the convertible top down and coolant came up the windshield into the car. Signed, An Automotive Engineer who's seen recalls for less
MOST ALL INTERNAL BUTTONS AND SWITCHES INCLUDING THE STEERING WHEEL, DASH AND DOOR SWITCHES ARE FAILING. SWITCHES AND BUTTONS ALMOST FEEL LIKE THEY ARE MELTING. THE STICKY RESIDUE MAKES THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS UNRELIABLE INCLUDING TURNING ON/OFF THE VEHICLE, SAFETY WARNING SYSTEMS, WINDOWS, CRUISE CONTROL, LANE ASSIST, ETC. ADDITIONALLY, THE GOEY BUTTONS ON THE CENTER CONSOLE CREATE THE SAME CONCERN FOR OTHER CRITICAL FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AMONG OWNERS AND JAGUAR HAS NOT OFFERED A REASONABLE REMEDY. ONE OWNER WHO HAD THESE SAME CONCERNS WAS QUOTED $9,000 TO REPLACE THE FAULTY SWITCHES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JAGUAR F-TYPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A STICKY RESIDUE ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND NEAR THE CONTROL PANEL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, WHICH AFFECTED THE ABILITY TO USE THE FUNCTION CONTROL BUTTONS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT JAGUAR HONOLULU (888 KAPIOLANI BLVD, HONOLULU, HI 96813, (808) 592-5108) INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND NEEDED TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER PROVIDED A 9-PAGE EXTENSIVE ESTIMATE AND INDICATED THAT THE TITLE WAS SALVAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INDICATED THAT A WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. THERE WAS NO RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,500.
CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE IN TOLL BOOTH. WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE KEY EVERYTHING WENT BLACK ON DASH. COULD NOT GET OUT OF CAR DUE TO TOLL BARRIERS. THEN ABOUT 30 SEC LATER MESSAGE CAME ON DASH THAT NEEDED TO MOVE KEY FOB CLOSER - I DO NOT REMEMBER EXACT WORDING. I TOOK KEY OUT OF MY RIGHT FRONT POCKET AND WAVE IT OVER START BUTTON. WAS ABLE TO THEN START CAR. WHILE DRIVING HOME PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING SENSOR CAME ON AND REMAINED ON THE REMAINDER OF THE TIME UNTIL I GOT HOME (ABOUT 40 MINUTE DRIVE. THERE WAS AN ADULT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT.
DRIVING CAR ON STREET AT ABOUT 45 MPH. SUDDENLY CAR JERKED AND STALLED. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER. SMOKE CAME FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT INITIALLY THEN ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE. ENTIRE FRONT OF CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND MELTED BEFORE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED.
Unexpectedly, The power steering went out on my 2020 Jaguar F-Type while driving. The power steering assistance reduced light came on in my dashboard. I'm being told by Hennessy Jaguar in Atlanta that even though my car has a little over 30k miles VIN # [XXX] , it's going to need a new Power Steering Rack. The cost for this repair is going to be over 6k. This is not acceptable, and this repair or replacement should not be necessary so soon as the life expectancy is much longer than 5 years.Β I am reaching out for help since being unsuccesful for Jaguar to cover this repair even though it is past the warranty period. What component or system failed, and is it available for inspection upon request? The following component failures occurred in my 2020 Jaguar F-PACE (VIN [XXX] ): Electrical System β Driver-side wiring harness short circuits near the footwell, disabling door locks/window controls. Cooling System β Bleed pipe and expansion tank coolant leaks triggering low-fluid warnings. Battery System β Energy control module failure causing recurrent low-battery alerts. Braking System β Front/rear linings worn to 3mm/2mm, below SAE J866 safety thresholds. The vehicle remains available for NHTSA inspection at your request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Electrical: Exposed wiring poses fire hazards (violating FMVSS 305), while inoperative door controls risk occupant entrapment (FMVSS 208). Brakes: Worn linings impair stopping distances (FMVSS 135), increasing collision risks. Cooling: Repeated coolant loss risks sudden engine overheating and highway breakdowns. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Jaguar-certified technicians at authorized dealerships confirmed the electrical, cooling, and battery failures during repairs in October-November 2024. The brake wear was documented but deemed "within tolerance" despite sub-spec measurements. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? Only Jaguarβs manufacturer-authorized dealers inspected the vehicle. No police, insurance, or third-party assessments occurred. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, the issues were preceded by multiple warning messages, including "low battery charge" warnings related to the electrical system, a low coolant warning due to the cooling system failure, and an SOS system limited notification. The basics
How to read this data
Complaints, recalls, investigations β hereβs what each number actually tells you about a used Jaguar F TYPE, in plain English.
What is an NHTSA Complaint?
An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Jaguar F TYPE has 32 complaints on record across 10 model years.
What is a Safety Recall?
A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Jaguar F TYPE has 16 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.
What Are Crash Complaints?
Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 1 of the Jaguar F TYPE's 32 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β a key safety signal beyond general reliability.
How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?
The reliability verdict (Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.
Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?
Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.
Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN
Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Jaguar F TYPE vehicles on the road β not any specific car. Two Jaguar F TYPE vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.
What Are NHTSA Investigations?
When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Jaguar F TYPE has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
