ENGINEJun 2026

Complete sudden engine failure , motor lost acceleration. It started with engine knocking then full and complete engine failure. Oil light illuminated when engine failed. I did check the engine and oil was full on a cold engine and the vehicle is properly maintained as it is a leased infiniti vehicle. Please note there have been two previous engine light incidents. First I was told it was a speaker in the rear door, second I was informed it was an evaporation seal. Lastly was this very intense engine shut down. I have research and found that there are issues with the turbo bearing with my particular engine and turbo. Engine 2.OL 4 cylinder ( KR20DDET)

POWER TRAIN,ENGINEJul 2025

Every single one of these 2.0 litre engines should be recalled. My partner has a 2022 QX50 and the long engine should be replaced. On May 18, 2025, my QX55 with 16,500 miles that I was absolutely perfect in servicing suddenly started losing power, grinding, then the oil light came on, followed by the check engine light. Suddenly, it was undrivable in traffic. I was stuck in front of entrance to a hospital in the most inconvenient and dangerous place. It wouldn't start, and when it did, the grinding noise was incredibly loud. I was stranded and it was flatbed towed to Fort Wayne (Indiana) Infiniti, and the following diagnosis was yielded: CONNECTING ROD BEARING FAILURE FROM CYLINDER 4 - CONTAMINATED OIL CONTROL SYSTEM. INTERNAL FAILURE OF CONNECTING ROD BEARING. TURBOCHARGER OIL FEED LINE HAS METAL PIECES IN TURBOCHARGER. REPLACEMENT OF LONG ENGINE AND TURBOCHARGER ASSEMBLY REQUIRED. Nissan is trying to get away with recalling just a few of these. It is a design flaw; not an issue with a specific production period.

UNKNOWN OR OTHERJun 2025

Bluetooth and CarPlay connection suddenly disconnects from my iPhone while driving, usually after 5-10 minutes after establishing a normal connection. This only affects the use of the phone component and not the other elements of the connect (map/navigation, music are not affected). This is dangerous because I am often on a freeway and engaged in a business call, and I must rapidly either switch to using my handset or change to β€œspeaker” mode on the phone in mid-call while driving. This has happened every time I have used this vehicle over the past two years, and I have taken it to the dealer (which is an excellent dealer (Sewell) that has an otherwise perfect service record. I am convinced Sewell has done nothing wrong. This has also happened on several other Infiniti models with my prior iPhones (different models with earlier versions of OS). I have been told in years past by Infiniti service corporate representatives in the past that there is an incompatibility between Infiniti and Apple phones. I was always told that the problem was solved on the next model vehicle.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEMDec 2025

We’ve taken the vehicle to two different Infiniti dealerships (Sewell and Crest) multiple times due to engine rattling, vibration noises, and propulsion issues. Unfortunately, we haven’t received any resolution or fix for these problems. We tried to upload a video with sound as reference but the platform doesn’t allow us to. We experienced similar issue that resulted in total engine failure on the highway with our children in the car in our Yukon Denali. We are fearful that something similar will occur. Please Help!!!

ENGINESep 2025

I have received email from my car dealer Grubbs Infiniti in Grapevine, TX. The email was regarding a recall for potential engine issues. I called my dealer and scheduled an inspection. When I sent my vehicle for inspection the dealer replaced my engine with a new engine without my consent. After the engine replacement I’ve received my vehicle back and I’ve been having issues where my vehicle suddenly got jammed while I was driving in my community. I called my dealer again and they took the car, fixed it and sent it back. Now after receiving the car my car is not starting and I did a jump start, eventually my car got started but I got an emission control system malfunction error and my car is not starting anymore. With all this I lost the confidence on my car and I need some kind of justice here. Thank you!!

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCESep 2025

The contact owns a 2022 Infiniti QX55. The contact stated that the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking System was unintentionally activated after a shadow was detected. The contact stated that there was a high-pitched beeping sound and flashing lights on the instrument panel during the failure. The brakes and steering were uncontrollable for several seconds. The local dealer was contacted and suggested that an appointment be scheduled to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 21,600.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLINGAug 2025

The contact owned a 2022 Infinity QX55. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle in the garage, the contact noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the white smoke increased significantly. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact returned to the residence. The contact stated that while driving to the dealer, the vehicle stalled and was able to restart after several attempts. An unknown red warning light was illuminated. The contact did not feel safe driving the vehicle, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the engine had failed, and there was sludge found in the oil. The dealer informed the contact that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V437000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the dealer declined to perform the recall repair. Additionally, the extended warranty company refused to cover the repair of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

SEATSNov 2024

I purchase my vehicle [XXX], While driving it I noticed that my driver seat was moving when I drive and turn corner, go on a hwy on ramp, or turn in a driveway. The car is under the manufacturer warranty and I have been taking my car back and forth to the only Infiniti dealership here in Las Vegas. Every time I take it there they tell me they cannot duplicate it, but they have replaced my seat track 3 times, which 2 of what I was told was broken. I keep telling Infiniti that this is a safety issue for me and I don’t feel safe driving my car. They cannot tell me why the seat track keeps breaking and I don’t know what else to do. I took it the the dealership I bought the vehicle from and 2 people there were able to duplicate the problem with my seat. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

UNKNOWN OR OTHERJul 2022

There is rattling noise in the dashboard area that is evident when driving 55+ mph. The noise started in the middle of the dashboard. I took it in for service and was told it was a known air bag issue. After servicing the issue has recurred but has moved to the driver side dashboard area. If this is a known issue, I'd like to know to ensure the vehicle is safe to drive and that the airbag won't deploy while I'm driving. My car has been at the dealership in the service department for 9 days now. No update has been provided; which in itself is alarming.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations β€” here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Infiniti QX55, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β€” but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Infiniti QX55 has 12 complaints on record across 4 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Infiniti QX55 has 2 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 0 of the Infiniti QX55's 12 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β€” a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Good) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β€” simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Infiniti QX55 vehicles on the road β€” not any specific car. Two Infiniti QX55 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β€” NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Infiniti QX55 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
