SERVICE BRAKESApr 2026

I bought the car brand new in the spring of 2024 and noticed shaking when braking after a few months. In January 2025 I had the rotors resurfaced at the dealer because they where warped. The brake shaking started again around March 2026. After searching several forums, turns out that this seems to be a common issue where the rotors warp constantly, requiring resurfacing several time or changing rotors every couple of years. The warping cause vibrations in the steering which affects handling. The vehicle shakes when braking at various speeds.

SERVICE BRAKESMar 2026

I have had my rotors turned 3 times and replaced once in the span of 2 years. They are warped each time, causing pulsing in the front end when braking. My brake pads have never needed to be replaced. I was told by the mechanic that taking a road trip puts a lot of strain on the rotors and overheats them. I am finding this is a common issue for many other owners of this vehicle. Mine has 27k miles on it. The first 3 times the car was in for having the rotors turned was within the first 6 months of ownership, under 10k miles, and I am the only owner.

SERVICE BRAKESFeb 2026

Purchased car new. Problems with brake system started at 6k mls. Problems got progressively worse to 29k mls where now rotors are being replaced due to β€œextreme warping” with pads, calibers, and everything else deemed fine. On brief internet search it was apparent that this rotor warping at low milage is a common problem. Warped rotors are a safety hazard to the driver, their passengers, and everyone else on the road with them. Please investigate.

I have a 2024 Passport Black Edition that has had front brake rotor issues since about 4k miles. It has has struts, wheel hubs, bearings, brake pads rotors either replaced or resurfaces 4 times and i am afraid to drive the vehicle at this point. Its been parked since Oct 2025 after the last repair while i fight with Honda to take the vehicle back .

Incident # 1. June 2025 Vehicle has approximately 3400 miles on it. I was driving southbound on I 35 freeway in the Lakeville Minnesota area. I was in the center lane of the freeway traveling at about 65 mph. Traffic was light. There was no one in front of me. Suddenly, the car broke hard. I was thrust forward against the seatbelt with my hands, pushing against the steering wheel as the car slowed rapidly and came to an abrupt stop from 65 miles an hour. I had no ability to get the car to go. The gas pedal had no effect as this car came to a rapid stop. I found myself stopped in the center lane of the freeway frantically looking around to see what cars were coming, can I find the four way flashers. A car passed me in the right lane and a car passed me in the left lane. Then I was able to limp over to the shoulder out of the traffic lanes. I shut the car off immediately and tried to compose myself. After a moment or two, I turned the engine back on and the car operated normally. At the dealership they fixed some things but they said they didn’t find anything that was directly related to the unexpected rapid braking. Incident #2. July 2025 Vehicle has approximately 4300 miles I was driving northbound on 35E taking the entrance ramp to eastbound Highway 36. I was driving on the entrance ramp beginning to accelerate to highway speed. there were no vehicles in front of me, not on the ramp, or on the highway. As I neared the end of the ramp the vehicle suddenly broke hard thrusting me forward again. It came to a complete stop. Fortunately, for the second time, there was no one behind me. This was the second time the vehicle engaged the brakes in an emergency stop for no reason. The Dealership said they couldn’t find anything cause of the incident. The vehicle remains at the dealership. I have requested reimbursement of my purchase price from Honda. We have an arbitration hearing schedlued on Oct 27, 2025

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEMAug 2025

At a red light in an intereection the Auto engine idle stopper feature stopped the engine and it failed to power / restart the engine. The cars electral system locked up. Could not restart engine, and could not put car in neutral because engine needs to be on. Had to car battery jumped. Took car to honda dealership after incident. They concluded that the battery and electrical systems passed all diagnostic tests. If this is the case there is a major safety issue with the car.

Breaking and steering wheel malfunction causing accident on December 20th 2024. Car is currently still at dealership for investigation. My safety was at risk, causing injury to shoulder. Not sure if problem has been reproduced, not confirmed by dealership as of yet. Police reported, insurance company only fix damage, then Vehicle was towed back to dealership for inspection, after being repaired in a different shop. Was called back by dealership to have additional inspection done and was told that my car was going to be refurbished. issues started once my car had hit 10,000 miles, after my first vehicle maintenance expectation. Received multiple systems warning lights, information dealership multiple times and nothing was done until after the accident Still have no car til this day 5/14/25.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMApr 2025

I am having an issue with the turn signal / emergency flasher not making any noise while in operation. The system visual components work fine. It's the inability to hear the flashing of the signals while driving down the road This could lead to issues with other cars trying to interpret the intention of the movement of my car while I am driving. I went to the Honda dealership (Gillman Honda) service department and was informed that my particular model does not have a fix or capability for the sound level to be adjusted, whereas other models (Pilot, Accord, etc.) do have this capability. Replacement of the flasher is not an option. Could the NHTSA please create a minimum decibel level standard to help insure safe operation of vehicles on the roads.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINEJan 2025

The contact owns a 2024 Honda Passport. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V900000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

POWER TRAINJan 2025

When backing out of a driveway onto a busy street, I put the car in reverse and back out into the lane of traffic. I then put the car into drive and try to pull forward into the lane of traffic with cars coming up behind me but the car does not respond to the gas pedal for many seconds. I have almost been rear ended because of this several times.

SERVICE BRAKESJan 2025

Rotors went bad with less than 250 miles on new car. Per American Honda rotors are not defective, because Dealership didn't day were defective; therefore, not covered under warranty, considered wear and tear. Dealership initially stated the cause of the rotors going bad was me: that I was hard braking and riding the brakes; however, first, I'd only had the car about 3 months and second, I contacted the Dealership a few days after I bought the car and informed them of the problem. Next, Dealership said the rotors were bad because my aftermarket floor mats were resting on the brake; however, the mats were put there two days before. The 2024 Honda Passport rotors are defective. At the very least the rotors in the one I purchased are dedective.

SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINENov 2024

The brake and tmps ights came on for no reason while driving. I pulled over to the side of the road in fear of my safety. I restarted the car to see if they would clear but unfortunately they did not. The manifold and gasket were leaking. The vehicle has been misfiring.

The contact owns a 2024 Honda Passport equipped with Continental Tires, Tire Line: Cross Contact, Tire Size: 265/45/R20, DOT Number: 1A30H5223. The contact stated that there was a blister on the driver's side front tire on the side wall close to the tread. The contact stated that the blister was the size of a lemon. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact to call the tire manufacturer. The contact called the manufacturer and was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The dealer informed the contact that the tire had to be replaced out-of-pocket. Additionally, the contact also noticed a small blister, the size of a cherry on the rear driver's side tire on the side wall near the tread. The vehicle manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The vehicle and tire failure mileage was 2,299.

πŸ“– Understanding This Data

πŸ“‹

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β€” but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Honda Passport has 807 complaints on record across 10 model years.

πŸ””

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Honda Passport has 37 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

πŸ’₯

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 42 of the Honda Passport's 807 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β€” a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

🧭

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Poor) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

πŸ“Š

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β€” simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

πŸ”

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Honda Passport vehicles on the road β€” not any specific car. Two Honda Passport vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

πŸ”Ž

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β€” NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Honda Passport has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
