I own a 2024 Genesis G90 with two active NHTSA recalls: 25V474 and 25V833. On April 19, 2026, the vehicle suffered a total electrical failure: β€œCheck brake system” warning Engine would not start Electronic door handles failed; occupants trapped inside for over 20 minutes Turn signals operate abnormally The dealer previously repaired only by reset (no recall fix). This is a life-threatening safety defect affecting brakes, electrical system, and egress. Please open an investigation and enforce recall repairs. I am pursuing Lemon Law relief.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTUREMay 2025

I purchased a new 2024 Genesis g90 vehicle from Key Genesis in Jacksonville Florida. I live in Navarre Florida near Pensacola so I took the vehicle into the Pensacola dealership for service. For almost a years time I have been notifying the dealership of a serious safety issue wirh the vehicle. There is a condition where the vehicle slams on the brakes on the highway for no apparent reason. The vehicle slams on the brakes at highway speeds while straddling two lanes. A vehicle in either lane being me could easily crash into the rear of my car when it does this. It took the dealership and Genesis corporate almost 8 months to confirm the problem, even though I had videos of the event happening. They wouldn't accept my video evidence. Consequently, they finally verified the problem and have been trying to fix it for months. They have no idea why it is doing this or how to fix it. But they have deemed the vehicle to be unsafe to drive and will not give it back to me. I have asked them to replace it with a new vehicle but they have refused. I went through the Lemon Law option and all they would offer me was to repurchase it for $23,000 less than what I have into it. They offered to pay me $9,000 and to keep the car but they have no idea what's wrong or how long it will take to fix it. So that offer is meaningless. I would like some help to try to get them to replace it with a new vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,BACK OVER PREVENTIONMar 2026

About every 45 days the car will not turn off. Safety items like the rear view camera will not work. The main viewing screen will go dead. I called the dealership. They said this was a common problem with my car. The only fix is to attempt a full system reboot with a paper clip. This has now happened three times to me. Once the car started without me pushing the start button. Twice while I was driving.

SEATSNov 2022

Seat memory #1 was working when I purchased the vehicle on 9/30/2021. Meaning as I got into and started the vehicle the seat automatically went into the correct driver's position to safely drive the vehicle. It was later learned that one of the options on the vehicle was an easy out feature. Meaning the seat would move back all the way so the driver could easily exit the vehicle. The seat at this time did not go back all the way. So, the dealership installed the new part on April 6, 2022, to correct the easy out feature. After the new part was installed the seat memory for #1 would not work at all as before. Meaning the seat would not go into the number #1 position to drive the vehicle safely. Also, the new part after the installation did not correct the easy out situation either meaning the seat will not move all the way back at all for an easy out. Now when I get out of the vehicle, I have to manually repeat manually move the seat all the way back and down to force myself repeat force myself to hit the number #1 seat position when I get back into the vehicle to reset the seat in order to safety drive the vehicle. The dealership has said per Genesis the seat is operating as designed. I was not informed of this design flaw when I purchased the vehicle and if I was, I never would have purchased the vehicle.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEApr 2022

Hello. We came within one foot of running over a jogger and had pedestrian avoidance activated. I read the owners manual and found disclaimer that PA does not work in dark and for other scenarios. The PDA is essentially a daytime pedestrian avoidance and does not work half the day. Indeed many other safety features such as lane keep assist do not perform as sales people disclosed. There needs to be much better disclosure (such as with medications) about limitations of new safety features. I specifically said the reason I was buying a car was to update safety, especially PDA to avoid my grandkids, bikes and joggers. I was not fully disclosed. Many might trade-in cars to update to new features to include those who can barely afford a new car. Then become trapped due to "drive off the lot" depreciation and cannot afford a car which does perform as needed. They may be better served by waiting another year or so until PDA etc would perform as they should. I am blessed and can afford to withstand the "hit." Agree that safety features are a step in the right direction and is new territory for regulation We must in my opinion have regulations for full disclosure of safety features limitations before a sale is made. We do not all read the owner's manual before purchase and do rely on truthful sales people. Safety is not a "buyer's beware" territory. The car I purchased happened to be a Genesis, but I think this is a problem across many manufacturers. I used to do forensic pathology and know fully well what traffic safety is about. Thank you for listening. I am not writing this for any personal reason as this was a near miss with no damage done. This I think is a general problem and just wanted for your agency to have increased awareness. [XXX] MD INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

πŸ’₯ CrashUNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEJan 2026

My 2021 Genesis G90 has experienced repeated failures of the main infotainment / viewing display system, which has been replaced multiple times by authorized Genesis dealers. Despite these repairs, the defect continues to recur. On December 19, 2025, while the main display was nonfunctional, I was involved in a rear-end collision while proceeding from a stop at a traffic light. During this event, the vehicle did not provide any forward collision warning and did not engage autonomous emergency braking, despite the presence of a vehicle directly in front of me. I am concerned that failure of the main display system or its associated control modules disables, suppresses, or prevents proper operation or driver notification of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Autonomous Emergency Braking. Due to the display failure, no visual warnings or system status messages could be seen, and there was no indication that collision-avoidance systems were disabled or degraded. The absence of both warnings and braking intervention raises serious concerns regarding system integration, fault handling, and fail-safe design. This vehicle has undergone multiple unsuccessful repair attempts for the same defect and is currently subject to a formal warranty demand under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This complaint is submitted to request investigation into whether recurring display failures in the 2021 Genesis G90 can impair ADAS functionality or driver awareness, creating an unreasonable safety risk.

STEERING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEApr 2025

Driving on interstate at 70mph while it was raining. Signaled and changed lanes. Steering wheel started jerking left and right and the power steering light flickered on and off. The steering wheel stopped jerking and the power steering light remained on. I no longer had power steering and car was difficult to control. The emergency braking assist light came on as well. Was able to get off the interstate. Turned the car off and on. Power steering light remained on. Turned car off. Waited 5 minutes. Turned car on. Power steering light was off but the power steering still did not work. I slowly and carefully drove home, which was nearby. About 2 miles into the drive, power steering returned. It felt like it partially returned at first and then fully returned after several minutes.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEMOct 2023

The vehicle started smoking and stalled out Aug 18,2023. The vehicle starting shaking then I parked it for about two (2) hours. When I tried to crank vehicle again it wouldn’t crank. I attempted to complete diagnostic test but the vehicle wouldn’t remain on. I contacted dealership I purchased it from. They order a tow to be brought in. The dealership repair shop for about 3 weeks didn’t know what happened. The change filters and oil change but it still was stalling.

TIRESSep 2023

This is not about a tire failure but rather dangerous mis sizing of tires from factory.I bought the car new. It was never in an accident or had a flat tire and did not have service call until this week at 13000 or so miles.the service included tire rotation and balance, but the service man called and said he wasn’t going to do it because the driver rear tire was the wrong size!!!! It was supposed to be 275/40 R19 101W but was 245/45R19 98W. The two front tires are 245’s as they should be but BOTH rears are supposed to be the 275’s! Clearly this affects handling, wear, stability etc. I’m a very careful driver but someone less careful could roll over on a fast corner turn! How many more Hyundai/ Genesis tires are mis sized? No one checks that when you buy a car!

πŸ’₯ CrashEXTERIOR LIGHTINGNov 2020

ONE NIGHT SHORTLY AFTER I PICKED UP MY 2020 GENESIS G90, I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A CITY STREET WHEN I NOTICED SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY HEADLIGHTS. AS I WAS DRIVING I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THEM. I KEPT THINKING THAT THERE WAS AN OBSTRUCTION ON THE HEADLIGHTS THAT WAS CAUSING SOME DARKENED AREAS RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF MY FIELD OF VISION. WHILE TRYING TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS, I WAS MOMENTARILY DISTRACTED AND I BRUSHED UP AGAINST A CURB CAUSING A NASTY INCIDENCE OF 'CURB RASH' ON MY FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL. SO MY BRAND-NEW G90 WITH LESS THAN 100 MILES ON IT WAS NOW DISFIGURED. THE GOOD NEWS IS I CAN GET A BRAND-NEW WHEEL INSTALLED FOR ONLY $1,025! AFTER DROPPING EIGHTY GRAND ON THE G90, THIS WAS ACTUALLY EXTRAORDINARILY BAD NEWS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THE HEADLIGHTS NEEDED ADJUSTMENT. I WAS INFORMED THAT "GENESIS WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT". I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY DEFECT SINCE THESE DARKENED AREAS OBSTRUCT A CLEAR VIEW OF THE ROAD AT NIGHT.

WHEELSApr 2020

THE CONTINENTAL CONTRIPROCONTACT TIRES ON MY 2020 GENESIS G90 HAVE A CONSTANT VIBRATION. IT FEELS LIKE YOU ARE DRIVING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS. ON 2/12/2020 (1 WEEK AFTER PURCHASE), CALLED THE DEALER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID THEY TALKED TO GENESIS AND GENESIS SAID THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF A TIRE PROBLEM. ON 2/18/2020, A SECOND DEALER (SMYRMA, GA) REBALANCED THE TIRES. DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. ON 2/23/2020, A THIRD GENESIS DEALER SAID THAT SOME CONTINENTAL TIRES HAD A PROBLEM AND WERE BEING REPLACED. ON 3/16/2020, CALLED THE ORIGINAL DEALER TO INFORM THEM ABOUT THE TIRE PROBLEM AGAIN. ON 3/27/2020, WAS TOLD ,BY THE ORIGINAL DEALER, TO CALL GENESIS AND REPORT THE PROBLEM (CASE # 16932384). GENESIS SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING AND SHOULD CALL CONTINENTAL. ON 3/27/2020, CALLED THE ORIGINAL DEALER TO HAVE THEM CALL CONTINENTAL TIRE. ON 4/2/2020, THE ORIGINAL DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT GET A RESPONSE FROM CONTINENTAL TIRE AND I SHOULD CALL CONTINENTAL TIRE DIRECTLY. ON 4/2/2020, CALLED CONTINENTAL TIRE AND THEY SAID I SHOULD GO TO A LOCAL TIRE DEALER. THE LOCAL TIRE DEALER, AFTER TALKING WITH CONTINENTAL TIRE, SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING WITH THE TIRES, BUT I COULD BUY A NEW SET OF TIRES FOR 50% OFF.

Seatbelt disengage on its own. I noticed my seatbelt disengaged the other day while I was in a drive thru. I was not driving at the moment I was waiting in the line. I know the seatbelt had been latched prior to it unlatching. I mentioned it to my husband and he said the same thing recently happened to him. Upon research I noticed this may be common with Hyundai.

πŸ“– Understanding This Data

πŸ“‹

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β€” but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Genesis G90 has 62 complaints on record across 10 model years.

πŸ””

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Genesis G90 has 29 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

πŸ’₯

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 7 of the Genesis G90's 62 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β€” a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

🧭

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

πŸ“Š

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β€” simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

πŸ”

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Genesis G90 vehicles on the road β€” not any specific car. Two Genesis G90 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

πŸ”Ž

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β€” NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Genesis G90 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
