Crash test ratings

NHTSA NCAP crash test ratings

New Car Assessment Program

NCAP crash tests measure how well a vehicle protects occupants in controlled frontal crash, side crash, and rollover scenarios. Stars are awarded per category (5 = safest). These laboratory results are independent of owner complaints and are performed by NHTSA engineers on new production vehicles.

NCAP crash test ratings for this model are not yet loaded or this vehicle was not tested in the years analyzed. NHTSA tests a subset of new vehicles each year. Check nhtsa.gov/ratings directly for the latest results.

ENGINEJun 2025

The contact owns a 2024 Ford F-600SD. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power. The contact shifted into neutral, restarted the vehicle, shifted into drive while looking for a safe place to pull over; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that after several attempts to restart the vehicle, the vehicle was drivable. A dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the result was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 2,950.

FireENGINEMay 2024

Operator was driving the vehicle and was approaching a stop. As the operator came to a stop, the engine stalled and there was white smoke noticed to be coming from under the hood. The operator tried to restart the engine but it would not start. At that time the white smoke became more noticeable, and the vehicle engine compartment became engulfed in flames. Attempts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful and 911 was called for assistance. No injuries were sustained during the incident.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEApr 2026

2023 Ford F-600 had leaking brake booster which caused the brakes to be constantly applied. On 8/15/25 less than one year ago, owner had front rotors/pads replaced and rear rotors resurfaced and pads replaced. There were no warning lamps or messages, the only symptom was the brakes squealed so we thought it was time to change the rear rotors since they had only been resurfaced last year. The defective brake booster could have caused loss of brake assist or brake failure. This is a commercial vehicle with an approximate GVWR of 22,000lbs that is used daily to service clients. A defective brake booster compromises the driver's ability to control the vehicle, potentially leading to a hazardous situation. The problem was diagnosed and repaired by a certified Ford repair center. All maintenance records are available for review. Owner has asked dealer to return defective part to them or tag it and keep on hand for potential inspection. Repairs have just been completed today.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESELFeb 2026

The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-600 SD. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V957000 (Fuel System, Diesel); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted, and the contact was advised that the repairs could cause more failures and that the recall repair could not be performed. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEMJan 2026

I am filing a complaint against Ford Motor Company regarding a known defect in my 2021 Ford F-600 truck that resulted in a catastrophic fuel system failure. The truck has only 110,000 miles and has been maintained appropriately. It is registered in the State of Illinois and is used for my woman-owned small business. A few weeks ago, the vehicle began running roughly. When the dealer inspected it, they reported that the entire fuel system was contaminated with metal and required complete replacement at a cost of 14,500. I later discovered that Ford has a documented history of CP4 fuel pump failures on 2020–2022 Super Duty trucks, including the F-600, which cause metal contamination throughout the fuel system. Many owners have received goodwill or warranty assistance for this exact issue. I opened a case with Ford Customer Care (Case #[XXX]) and provided all documentation. Despite the clear evidence of a known defect and the severe financial hardship this caused, Ford refused to provide any assistance at allβ€”not even covering the parts cost. I was forced to put the 14,500 repair on a credit card at 21% interest simply to keep my business functioning. This situation is financially devastating for a small, woman-owned Illinois business, and Ford’s refusal to offer goodwill assistance for a known defect is unfair and unreasonable. I am requesting help obtaining reimbursement or appropriate relief from Ford Motor Company. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Description In some of the affected vehicles, the rear right-hand axle shaft may have been manufactured without properly completing the electromagnetic induction heat treatment process, making the axle shaft susceptible to fracture. Safety Risk A fractured rear axle shaft could result in a loss of motive power while driving, or vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is placed in park and the parking brake is not applied. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash. Remedy Parts are now available to repair your vehicle. Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect and replace your right rear axle shaft free of charge. Next Steps Contact your dealer for more information to schedule the free service.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations β€” here’s what each number actually tells you about a used FORD F 600, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β€” but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The FORD F 600 has 7 complaints on record across 7 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The FORD F 600 has 20 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 0 of the FORD F 600's 7 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β€” a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Excellent) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β€” simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all FORD F 600 vehicles on the road β€” not any specific car. Two FORD F 600 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β€” NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The FORD F 600 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
