Crash test ratings

NHTSA NCAP crash test ratings

New Car Assessment Program

NCAP crash tests measure how well a vehicle protects occupants in controlled frontal crash, side crash, and rollover scenarios. Stars are awarded per category (5 = safest). These laboratory results are independent of owner complaints and are performed by NHTSA engineers on new production vehicles.

NCAP crash test ratings for this model are not yet loaded or this vehicle was not tested in the years analyzed. NHTSA tests a subset of new vehicles each year. Check nhtsa.gov/ratings directly for the latest results.

WHEELSJul 2026

On two separate occasions, the vehicle's left rear wheel studs have broken off clean with the hub and both rear dual wheels departed the vehicle while in motion. This issue was reported to the local FORD dealer and they reported that they do not know why this is happening. This has happened to five (5) of our other vehicles as well. I am a fleet manager for an EMS service and we have a total of ten (10) of these Ford chassis. The wheels coming off present a hazard to oncoming traffic not to mention the safety of our team members and patients being transported on our ambulances. We sent the vehicle to Kilgore Ford in Kilgore, Texas and they advised they are not sure how this keeps happening. There were no warning lamps that gave the driver a warning that something was wrong until the truck started vibrating and the wheels came off. All of our vehicles, including these FORD Chassis', undergo Preventative Maintenance every 5,000 miles and we check torque on these FORD chassis' because of these continued failures. Our torque wrenches are checked annually for calibration and we utilize the FORD Diagnostic Software and FORD Torque Specification which are followed on every preventative service.

THIS VEHICLE HAS A 12,500 GVWR. WE RECENTLY HAD THIS AT A FORD DEALER FOR A BROKEN LEFT REAR SUSPENSION. THE DEALER WEIGHED THE ENTIRE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THE TARE WEIGHT TO BE 11,200 LBS. THIS IS A CLASS-C MOTORHOME AND IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY OF ANY AND ALL CARGO, NO LIQUIDS, WHICH IS CAPABLE OF CARRYING 40 GALLONS OF WATER AT 8.3 GALLONS PER POUND. THERE WAS LESS THAN 1/4 OF A TANK OF FUEL, OF A 55 GALLON TANK AND THE MANUFACTURER STATES THAT THIS IS A 4 PASSENGER VEHICLE. WITH THE MATH WE HAVE DONE, OF 40 GALLONS OF WATER AT 333.60 LBS AND 55 GALLONS OF GAS EQUATES TO 346.50 LBS. MY 4 MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY COMBINED WEIGH IN AT 800 LBS AND WITH ALL THE TOTALS ADDED TOGETHER I COME UP WITH 12, 680 GVWR. THIS VEHICLE HAS A RATED BY THE MANUFACTURER TOW CAPACITY OF 8,000 LBS. THE VEHICLE HAS MANY LARGE STORAGE BINS INCORPORATED INTO THE UNIT. BASED ON THE WEIGHTS DISPLAYED, I'VE ALREADY EXCEEDED THE GVWR. WITH THAT SAID, I CAN NOT LEGALLY DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITH THE 4 MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY. MY STORAGE COMPARTMENTS ARE COMPLETELY EMPTY AND I HAVE NO CAMPING SUPPLIES ONBOARD, THAT INCLUDING POTS, PANS, CUPS, TOITLETRIES, CHAIRS, ETC.THE REASON FOR THIS NOTICE IS BECAUSE THE LEFT REAR SUSPENSION HAS FAILED IN ONLY 7,000 MILES TRAVELED. I'M FEARFUL THAT IF I DRIVE THIS AND HAVE ANY SITUATION ON THE ROAD, THAT MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL INVALIDATE MY POLICY.

POWER TRAINAug 2025

The component that failed was the transmission system, specifically the CDF clutch cylinder, the torque converter, and the front support structure. The transmission was found to contain metal debris, burned clutch components, and damage to internal bushings and supports. 1. These parts were replaced under warranty by Central Ford in South Gate, CA. I do not have possession of the damaged components, and I cannot confirm whether they remain available for inspection. 2. The failure resulted in loss of power while driving — particularly during gear shifts into 10th gear at highway speeds. The truck also began to shudder violently, and a “Powertrain Malfunction / Power Reduced” message appeared on the dash. This put me and others at risk, especially in high-speed traffic where sudden deceleration or power loss can lead to collisions, particularly for heavy-duty trucks like mine that are often used for towing or hauling. 3. Yes, The issue was diagnosed, reproduced, and confirmed by Central Ford. A full teardown of the transmission confirmed internal damage including: A shifted and burned CDF clutch cylinder Torque converter damage Front support wear and metal transfer Metal debris inside the transmission All affected components were replaced, and the transmission was reassembled and reinstalled. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford-certified dealership (Central Ford). There was no involvement by police or insurance representatives, as the failure did not lead to a crash or claim. Yes. The vehicle displayed a “Powertrain Malfunction / Power Reduced” warning. This occurred in conjunction with loss of acceleration, shuddering, and hesitation when shifting into higher gears (particularly 10th). These symptoms appeared shortly before I brought the truck in for service on [XXX]. This failure happened at relatively low mileage for a heavy-duty truck that is used primarily for regular driving and light commercial use. I am concerned that this is part of a bro INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2022 Ford E-350. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the failure to be a misfire on cylinder #3 and the spark plugs were faulty. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,486. The VIN was invalid.

SERVICE BRAKESOct 2025

While driving on the highway, the brakes on my rental truck began to feel mushy, and the pedal eventually went all the way to the floor. I was unable to stop and had to use the emergency brake to avoid a collision. The truck was rented from Budget Truck Rental (Serrato Enterprises Inc., 7680 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238). Upon inspection, I discovered brake fluid leaking from the left rear tire and an empty master cylinder reservoir under the hood. I made my first call to Budget Customer Service at 2:00 PM but was not towed to Abilene until 1:00 AM—leaving my family stranded for nearly two days. The next day, the repair mechanic from Rocky Mountain Truck inspected the braking system and told me this vehicle should never have been on the road due to the severe deterioration of the brake rotor and pads on both sides of the truck (photo attached). He provided me with the damaged rotor and brake pad as physical evidence of neglect and told me the vehicle would not pass any sort of inspection, also warning me to never rent from Budget again if this is how they give customers vehicles. Inside the cab, there is a maintenance log showing no service for over 20,000 miles beyond the last recorded entry at 99,000 miles, even though previous maintenance had been logged every 4,000 miles. This clearly shows a failure in standard maintenance and safety practices. The fact that my wife’s and my safety was jeopardized—and that Budget’s customer service treated this with such disregard—is unacceptable. It is alarming that only a catastrophic accident could have brought attention to such negligence in vehicle maintenance and safety oversight. I am going to these lengths due to the fact that Budget values milking a few extra miles out of a vehicle's lifespan rather than addressing the most common wear-and-tear items on a vehicle. I'm reaching out because of Budget’s failure to acknowledge the importance of vehicle safety. Crash FireFUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEMApr 2022

On April 22, 2022 we were driving east on Hwy 100 in Henderson, TN. We had stopped to make a left-hand turn. A vehicle claimed his brakes went out and hit us from behind going full-speed. Our driver could see he was not stopping and tried to leave the roadway. A vehicle was traveling west (coming towards us) so he couldn't turn to the left. He stated to pull off the roadway into the grass embankment, but didn't get of the road before being struck. My concern is this: our vehicle (cutaway with wheelchair lift added via state contract by Mid-south Bus in Murfreesboro, TN) immediately caught fire and burned to the ground within minutes. If there had been a wheelchair bound passenger tied down in the back of this vehicle, there would've been no way the driver could've got him/her off before being engulfed in flames. The fuel tank is located about 2.5' from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle has a metal (not fiberglass or plastic) bumper. We have lots of these vehicles. My concern is "what if this happens again an there is a passenger in that wheelchair station?"

No Ford dealers in my area can take care of the problem.: I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a Ford dealership’s failure to properly support and address a safety recall on my vehicle. As you know, safety recalls are issued to protect consumers and ensure that potentially dangerous vehicle defects are corrected promptly and at no cost to the vehicle owner. When a dealership fails or refuses to properly handle a recall repair, it raises serious safety and compliance concerns. Despite bringing my vehicle to the dealership regarding the recall, the issue has not been properly addressed. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed and that appropriate action be taken to ensure the recall repair is handled in accordance with federal safety requirements. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEMDec 2025

On August 2, 2024 I was driving my 2022 Ford F-350 7.3L on the interstate when I experienced sudden loss of power, engine was sputtering, obviously not getting fuel in my opinion. Engine eventually quit, and I came to rest on the side of I 20/59. No check engine light or other warning lights were ever illuminated during this episode. After 10-15 minutes of attempting to start, the engine finally restarted and I continued approx. 50 miles to my home with no further issues. On Aug. 14, I took my F-350 to Town and Country Ford in Bessemer, AL. Their Service Dept ran several diagnostics, tested fuel pressure, ethanol content, checked for misfire issues and road tested. No problems were found. Odometer at the time was 26,183. In July 2025 I received a Recall Notice from Ford (NHTSA Recall 25V455) for possible loss of fuel pressure due to fuel pump failure. Today (December 8, 2025) I attempted to contact Ford to get an update on the Recall, was provided no updated information (automated system only, live person was not an option). Also contacted Town and Country Ford Service Dept. for any knowledge they may have, which was none as well. I do not drive the truck every day, primarily due to not wishing to get stranded far from a repair facility (current odometer 38,000). I am filing this complaint to hopefully expedite Ford's response to a problem they have been aware of for over a year if not longer, and certainly since July 2025. The absence of any updates is infuriating for an issue that could become catastrophic.

Received a notice on a "Customer Satisfaction Program 24N03" Instead of issuing a recall for the Hydroboost power steering pressure and jumper lines they instead extended the warranty. Hello, when I start my vehicle and leave it in park and idle the transmission makes a mechanical clicking noise. I went under the truck to try to find the source of the noise. When I was underneath I found that when the clicking noise is active the drive line coming out the rear of the transmission is trying to turn. It is rocking back and forth. This is what the clicking noise is. I tried it with the vehicle in Neutral also. Same result. The transmission is sending power to the driveline while in park and neutral. Before you buy, check the exact FORD E 350

These pages show model-year patterns across 10 years. Enter a VIN to verify the exact vehicle's accident history, title brands, odometer records, and open recall status before purchase.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations — here’s what each number actually tells you about a used FORD E 350, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The FORD E 350 has 60 complaints on record across 10 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The FORD E 350 has 22 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 4 of the FORD E 350's 60 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all FORD E 350 vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two FORD E 350 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The FORD E 350 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
