Owners report sudden power steering loss, often at speed, requiring towing. One 2010 Cooper S lost power on the highway with 75,000 miles. This is the most common complaint and a serious safety concern.
The passenger seat occupancy sensor fails, making the airbag inoperative whenever the engine runs. Owners say this is so common that bypass switches are sold online. A non-working passenger airbag is a major risk.
The footwell module (FRM) fails, knocking out lights, windows, and other functions. Owners also report timing chain tensioner defects causing rattling and sudden engine shutdown. These can strand you and are costly to fix.
