I PURCHASED A VEHICLE USED AND THE DEALER COMMITTED FRAUD BY NOT DISCLOSE PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS AND OR REQUIRED PREVIOUSLY KNOW REPAIRS. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN. ONLY HAD IT 5 DAYS AND LESS THAN 100 MILES DRIVEN. DEALER ADMITS HE KNEW ABOUT ISSUES IN EMAIL. DOCUMENTS PROVIDED HEREIN

AIR BAGSSep 2015

SERVICE AIR BAG SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON AND GOES OFF. PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND GOES OFF REGARDLESS OF WEIGHT ON THE PASSENGER SEAT. SINCE SUZUKI IS OUT OF BUSINESS, I TOOK IT TO MY TRUSTED MECHANIC. HE SAID HE DIDN'T WANT TO EVEN LOOK AT IT. AIR BAGS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND HE DID NOT WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. TAKE IT TO A DEALER. SO I FOUND A MITSUBISHI DEALER (WHICH SERVICED A RECALL ON OUR 2008 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA - SEE BELOW) AND THEY SAID IT WILL COST A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS JUST TO LOOK AT IT. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED! I ASK. THEY SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW. THAT WE ARE NOT THE FIRST PEOPLE TO ASK. FOR THE RECORD WE ALSO OWN A 2008 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA X-SPORT WHICH WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME REASON AND FIXED. THE MITSUBISHI DEARER ACULLY REPLACED THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. WHEN WE PICKED UP THE CAR I COUOD NOT HELP NOTICE A DUMPSTER OUT BACK OVER FLOWING WITH SEATS. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. WE ARE AFRAD TO DRIVE THE CAR AN DON'T HAVE HUNDREDS FOR THE REPAIR!!

TIRESNov 2010

I HAVE A 2009 SUZUKI XL7 WITH 33,000 MILES ON IT. THE FIRST COLD DAY OF THE YEAR MY CHECK TIRE PRESSURE LITE CAM ON. I WENT TO A LOCAL TIME PUMP AND SET THE TIRE PRESSURE ON ONE TWO OF THE TIRES, WHEN I INFLATED THE THIRD TIRE THE STEM BROKE OFF AND MY TIRE DEFLATED. I THEN COMPLETED A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE FOURTH TIRE AND FOUND THAT IS WAS CRACKED AND LOSE . THE CAP WAS SPINNING AND WOULD NOT COME OFF. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY TOLD ME I FORCED THEM AND BROKE THEM OFF AND MADE ME PAY FOR THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS UNDER A BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. I HAVE ASKED FOR THE PARTS BACK AND I AM NOT DONE WITH THIS. *TR

My car was running when I checked it into the vechicle repair shop at Firestone address of 2311 Military rd Niagara Falls, New York 14304. When it got tolled back to my address it did not turn over. They said it was the battery but when I had a knew battery adjusted in my vechicle it still did not work. Therefore the issues is on the Firestone repair to cover any charges at another shop to get repaired at the cost they charge.

TOOK MY 2008 SUZUKI XL7 PREMIUM INTO THE SHOP BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING FLUID, MAKING NOISES AND WAS BECOMING HARD TO STEER. 3 DAYS LATER AND 2 PUMPS LATER I STILL DON'T HAVE MY CAR BACK. THEY MECHANIC SAID THEY EVEN FLUSHED THE POWER STEERING FLUID OUT AND THERE WAS METAL SHAVING IN IT FROM THE LINE. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE THE MECHANIC $500. FOR A NEW LINE AND $500 FOR A NEW PUMP BECAUSE OF A DEFECT ON THE MANUFACTURER'S END. I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE LOOKED INTO FOR RECALL PURPOSES FOR SAFETY AND MANUFACTURE ISSUES. MULTIPLE SOURCES STATE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH IT

MY STABILITY TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON WHICH TURNED STC OFF, IN ADDITION IT TURNED OFF THE AWD. THE POWER STEERING ONLY WORKS AT FASTER SPEEDS. I'VE ALMOST WRECKED THIS CAR ON MANY OCCASIONS DUE TO THIS. IT'S HORRIBLY UNSAFE IN THE RAIN. IT WILL LITERALLY GET STUCK IN A LITTLE MUD PUDDLE BC OF THE ST N AWD BEING OFF. SO MANY COMPLAINTS! IT SHOULD BE RECALLED SOON! IT'S 7 PASSAGE VEHICLE I'M ASSUMING MOSTLY FOR KIDS N IT'S STC,AWD,POWER STEERING JUST STOPS N IT SHAKES WHEN U SLOW DOWN. I'M SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE MINE ESPECIALLY IN BAD WEATHER!!!

STEERINGJul 2018

DRIVING THE SUZUKI ON MULTIPLE OCCASION WHEN I BEGIN TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL STIFFENS AND IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. I MUST YOU BOTH HANDS AND FORCEFULLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE HAD THE POWER STEERING REPLACE 3 TIMES AND IT IS STILL OCCURRING!!! IT HAPPENS WHILE MOTION ON CITY STREETS AND THE HIGHWAY. IT SO STIFF ITS DIFFICULT TO TAKE AN EXIT. THIS LAST OCCURRED YESTERDAY 7/4/2018.

STEERING,POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROLJun 2017

POWER STEERING IS OUT, TIMING BELT AND TENSIONER, COOLING IN FRONT NOT BACK

ENGINEJun 2017

RECEIVED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND CODES WERE AS BEFORE POINTED TO A STRETCHED TIMING CHAIN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME FOR THIS VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP SAID THIS TIME IT WAS FROM LOW OIL PRESSURE. WHY WAS THERE NOT A LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT IF IT WILL RUIN ENGINE COMPONENTS? SUZUKI HAS A TSB FOR TIMING CHAINS AND INDIVIDUAL PART NUMBERS FOR THESE KITS WHICH TELLS ME THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL.

ENGINEMay 2017

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SUZUKI XL7. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAMSHAFT AND TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE TIMING CHAIN BELT FRACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,ENGINEFeb 2017

MY 2008 XL7 HAS HAD MANY PROBLEMS IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. THE SUNROOF HAS KEPT LEAKING INTO THE CABIN LIGHTS AND INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE CEILING REQUIRING 2 VISIT TO A BODY SHOP TO FIX THE SEAL. MY TRANSMISSION CONTROL REQUIRED REPLACING DUE TO MY CAR JERKING BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. MY DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW KEEPS COMING OFF THE TRACK. MY BACK DOORS NO LONGER UNLOCK EXCEPT FROM THE INSIDE. MY RIGHT PASSENGER WINDOW NO LONGER ROLLS DOWN AT ALL. NOW MY PAINT IS PEELING ABOVE BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER WINDOWS. THE PAINT LOOKED BUMPY AND PEELED OFF AFTER A RECENT STORM. UNDERNEATH IS A WHITE POWDER COATING AND IT'S RUSTED UNDERNEATH AS WELL.

AIR BAGSJan 2017

MY CAR IS NOT ON THE TAKATA RECALL, BUT I FEEL IT SHOULD BE, AS MY SERVICE AIRBAGS HAVE NOW BEEN ON FOR ABOUT 8 OR MORE MONTHS NOW. I'VE HAD IT TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANY CODES, THE ONLY FIX THEY DO IS ZIP TIE THE AIR BAG COMPONANT UNDERNEATH THE PASSAGER SEAT. I'M AFFAID THAT IF I GET INTO AN ACCIEDENT THAT THEY WILL NOT DEPLOY IF NEEDED.. SOMTHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. CAN'T DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH NON-WORKING AIRBAGS WITH CHILDREN.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations — here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Suzuki XL7, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Suzuki XL7 has 217 complaints on record across 6 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Suzuki XL7 has 2 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 2 of the Suzuki XL7's 217 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Poor) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Suzuki XL7 vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Suzuki XL7 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Suzuki XL7 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
