MAGNETS IN STATOR KEEP SEPARATING IN VERY HOT CONDITIONS CAUSING A SITUATION WHERE THE MOTORCYCLE COULD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF AND/OR UNABLE TO POWER BACK ON AT STAND STILL / IDLE
THE CHARGING SYSTEM ON THIS MOTORCYCLE HAS NO WARNING WHEN IT QUITS WORKING. SINCE IT IS A FUEL INJECTED VEHICLE, WITH CONSTANTLY ON HEADLIGHTS IT WILL RUN DOWN A PERFECTLY GOOD BATTERY WHEN THE CHARGING SYSTEM FAILS. *TR THE CHARGING SYSTEM HAS A LATENT DEFECT IN THE ROTOR. THE MAGNETS ARE ATTACHED WITH AN ADHESIVE. THE AMOUNT OF ADHESIVE IS MINIMAL, LEADING TO THE RELEASE OF THE MAGNETS. THE ATTACHMENT IS POOR AT BEST FROM A DESIGN STANDPOINT. THE MAGNETS NEED TO BE SECURED EITHER WITH RIVETS IN RECESSES IN THE METAL ROTOR. WHEN THE MAGNETS FALL OFF, THE CHARGING SYSTEM FAILS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE VEHICLE QUITS WITH NO WARNING. IN MY SPECIFIC CASE IT HAPPENED AT RUSH HOUR, ON A FOUR LANE 55 MPH ROAD WITH NO SHOULDERS. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF THE OTHER VEHICLES OR I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO WRITE THIS. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE RIDER. THIS CHARGING SYSTEM IS THE SAME IN QUITE A FEW SUZUKI MOTORCYCLES. I BELIEVE IT IS USED IN ALL THE 1000 CC V-TWIN ENGINES FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF THESE ISSUES. I HAVE SAVED THE ROTOR IN THE EVENT THAT YOU WANT IT FOR FURTHER ANALYSIS. AS YOU CAN SEE IT DOES NOT TAKE MANY MILES FOR IT TO FAIL. THIS VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL MAINTAINED. THE ROTOR AND STATOR ARE INSIDE THE ENGINE, THERE IS NO CHANCE OF INADVERTENT DAMAGE CAUSING THIS. *TR

ENGINE WAS CLEANED OUT, AND PART REPLACED WITH NEW SUZUKI OEM PART. *TR

LOUD ABNORMAL KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM ENGINE WITH CLUTCH LEVER RELEASED. SAME SOUND NEARLY INAUDIBLE WITH CLUTCH LEVER PULLED IN. PRIMARY DRIVE NUT ON CRANKSHAFT THAT SECURES PRIMARY DRIVE GEAR ASSEMBLY LOOSENED AND PARTIALLY UNTHREADED. NUT THEN MAKES WITH CONTACT WITH THE INNER RIGHT HAND ENGINE CASE AND RUBS. THE PRIMARY DRIVE GEAR IS THEN ALLOWED TO SLIDE ON THE CRANKSHAFT OUTWARDS TOWARDS THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY AND MAKES CONTACT, THE PRIMARY DRIVE GEAR SPRING WASHER IS THEN BROKEN ALLOWING THE PRIMARY DRIVE GEAR ASSEMBLY TO SEPERATE AND LET THE INTERNAL SPRINGS FALL OUT. VARIOUS PIECES OF METAL FRAGMENTS CAN FALL INTO THE OIL SUMP. POSSIBILITY OF CLUTCH DRIVEN GEAR DAMAGE AS WELL AS CAMSHAFT DRIVE GEAR DAMAGE OR ENGINE FAILURE IF LEFT UNCHECKED. PRIMARY DRIVE GEAR SPRINGS AND SPRING WASHERS REPLACED. PRIMARY DRIVE GEAR ASSEMBLY NUT TORQUED TO SPECIFICATION. REMOVE BROKEN PARTS FROM OIL SUMP IF PRESENT. REPLACE CRANKCASE COVER GASKET, ENGINE OIL, AND COOLANT.
I PUT 500 MILES ON MY BIKE OF VERY EASY RIDING THE ENGINE ISN'T BROKEN IN UNTIL 600 MILES AND I PULLED UP TO A STOP LIGHT AND AND THERE WAS A KNOCKING GRINDING NOISE WITH THE CLUTCH OUT AND IT WENT AWAY WHEN I PULLED IT IN. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND THAT THE PRIMARY GEAR NUT HAD BACKED OFF THE CRANKSHAFT AND WAS RUBBING UP AGAINST THE ENGINE CASE. THEY PUT RED LOCTITE ON THE NUT AND RETRORQUED IT AND IT NEEDED A NEW CASE GASKET. THE BIKE IS A 2006 SV1000S. *NM
DRIVE GEAR (CLUTCH GEAR) FOR OIL PUMP, CAMS ETC. BROKE SPIDER WASHER (RETAINER CLIP) AND CAME LOOSE STRIKING BACK OF CLUTCH BASKET WHICH KEPT IT FROM COMING COMPLETELY OFF WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED ENGINE DESTRUCTION. GEAR SHOULD HAVE HAD MORE TORQUE APPLIED AT FACTORY TO NUT AND RED LOCK-TITE APPLIED TO THREADS. SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALL. REMAINING 1/3 OF BROKEN SPIDER WASHER COULD NOT BE FOUND IN OIL SUMP. REMAINING LO PIECE COULD ENTER TRANSMISSION WITH POSSIBLE LOCK UP. PROBLEM WAS NOTICED BY NOISE WHILE RIDING 02/19/16. REPAIRED BY MSP CYCLES, DECATUR, GA AT A COST TO ME OF $343.22. SINCE I CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER MOTORCYCLE I'LL CONTINUE TO RIDE THIS SV WITH A QUESTION AS TO WHETHER THE MISSING PIECE WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS. THANKS
I WAS RIDING MY MOTORCYCLE AT A CRUISING SPEED OF 45 MPH. MY MOTORCYCLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I THOUGHT IT WAS FUEL RELATED SO I PUSHED MY BIKE 1/4 MILE TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND FILLED UP. THE BIKE DID NOT START, SO I THOUGHT IT WAS BATTERY RELATED. I HAD TO GET MY PICKUP, THEN TRAILER THE BIKE HOME. I THEN FOUND OUT THAT THE BATTERY WAS FINE AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS STATOR RELATED(RESISTANCE CHECK)! I THEN HAD TO TAKE THE CRANKCASE COVER OFF AND TO MY SURPRISE I FOUND THAT ALL SIX MAGNETS ON THE FLYWHEEL HAD COME OFF AND SHATTERED THROUGHOUT THE CRANKCASE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN SUZUKI THAT THEY WOULD LET THESE CONTINUING CLAIMS GO UNNOTICED WHEN LIVES COULD BE AT RISK! I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED IF THOSE SHARDS WOULD HAVE AFFECTED THE ENGINE, CAUSING IT TO SEIZE, NOT TO MENTION THAT MY BIKE DID DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC, WHICH ALSO COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT THREATENING LIVES! THIS IS PLAINLY A MISHAP ON THEIR PART AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE MORE SERIOUS INCIDENTS BEGAN TO POP UP WITH BIKES THAT GET HIGHER IN MILEAGE! IF SUZUKI CAN NOT MAKE A STRONG ENOUGH EPOXY TO HOLD THOSE MAGNETS IN PLACE, THEN THEY NEED TO FIRE WHOEVER MADE THAT STUPID DESIGN AND RECALL ALL THESE BIKES TO FIX IT PROPERLY! MY FLYWHEEL WAS ABSOLUTELY SMOOTH, ALMOST LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SMOOTH WITHOUT MAGNETS FROM THE FACTORY! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE TO KNOW THAT WHATEVER WAS HOLDING THOSE MAGNETS ON COULD DEGRADE SO EASILY OVER TIME! I AM VERY, VERY DISGUSTED WITH SUZUKI AND THIS HORRIBLE ENGINEERING OF THIS FLYWHEEL AND THE NEGLECTED CUSTOMERS THAT THEY REFUSE TO TREAT WITH RESPECT AND LOYALTY FOR BUYING THEIR PRODUCTS, THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ROAD SAFE FOR THE LIFE OF THE MOTORCYCLE! *TR
THE MOTORCYCLE HAD SYMPTOMS OF A BAD BATTERY. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AND DIED WHILE 2 HOURS FROM THE HOUSE. I BEGAN CHECKING THE CHARGING SYSTEM AND NOTICE 0VDC GENERATOR OUTPUT. I INSPECTED THE PART AND FOUND THAT SEVERAL MAGNETS WERE CRACKED, ONE SLIDING OVER ANOTHER AND BEING FILED DOWN BY THE STATOR. THIS HAS ALSO LEFT MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF DEBRIS IN THE OIL POSSIBLY CAUSING ROD AND MAIN BEARING WEAR, TIMING CHAIN WEAR, CAMSHAFT WEAR, AND OIL PUMP DAMAGE. THE BIKE IS NOT RIDDEN HARD, RARELY SEEING OVER 6,500-7,000 RPM. *TR
THE IGNITION ROTOR HAS A SERIES OF MAGNETS GLUED TO IT BUT THAT GLUE FAILED CAUSING THE MAGNETS TO COME LOOSE AND BREAK APART IN THE ENGINE CAUSE FRAGMENTS TO GO ALL OVER INSIDE THE ENGINE. WHAT I HAVE READ ON THE SUZUKI FORUMS THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. *TR
MOTORCYCLE WOULD NOT CHARGE BATTERY AND COMPLETELY DIED BECAUSE OF IT ONE DAY. OPENED UP MAGNETO COVER AND FOUND THE ROTOR MAGNETS HAD DISINTEGRATED. RUINED THE ROTOR AND MAGNETO AND ONLY HAD 17,000 MILES ON IT. CLEANING UP BITS OF MAGNET ALL AROUND THE CRANK AND INSIDE THE ENGINE.
IN MID RIDE I WAS APPROACHING A LOW SPEED CORNER AT THE END OF A HIGH SPEED STRAIGHT AWAY. I TRIED TO PULL MY CLUTCH HANDLE IN TO BEGIN TO BRAKE AND DOWNSHIFT AND THE CLUTCH HANDLE HAD NO RESISTANCE AT ALL. COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE HYDRAULIC CLUTCH SYSTEM. UNABLE TO TAKE THE DRIVE PRESSURE OFF THE REAR TIRE THE BIKE LOST TRACTION IN THE REAR AND LOWSIDED THE BIKE INTO A 6 FOOT DITCH AT AROUND 60 TO 70 MPH. I RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES THANKS TO MY GEAR BUT INJURIES NONE THE LESS. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MANY MOTORCYCLE MECHANICS AND ALL OF THEM HAVE STATED THAT HYDRO CLUTCHES ARE DEATH TRAPS. AND ALMOST ALL OF THEM SAID TO GET A CABLE CLUTCH CONVERSION KIT ASAP. NO I KNOW WHY. THIS IS A RESULT OF SUZUKI MOTORS OUTSOURCING THEIR WORK TO CHEAP LABOR AND NOT CHECKING TO MAKE SURE THEIR PARTS ARE WITHIN THE TOLERANCES THAT WERE SET FOR THAT PART. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT SUZUKI NEEDS TO SUSPEND PRODUCTION ON ALL SV1000 BIKES AND ISSUE A RECALL TO FIX ALL THE PARTS THAT HAVE BEEN POORLY MADE WITH UNSAFE RESULTS. THE FLYWHEEL ROTORS LOSE THE MAGNETS ON ALMOST EVERY 2003 SV1000 AND ITS BEGINNING TO EFFECT UP TO THE 05 MODELS. I AM ON 2 DIFFERENT FORUMS FOR THIS BIKE THAT ARE INTERNATIONAL FORUMS THE FLYWHEEL MAGNETS ARE THE SECOND MOST COMMON FAILURE FROM SUZUKI JUST BEHIND THE PISS POOR JOB ON THE CLUTCH BASKET HUB BEARING. NOW THE FUEL TANKS ARE KNOWN TO RANDOMLY BURST INTO FLAMES WHEN THE FUEL LINE LEAKS UNDER THE TANK. THIS BIKE SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM MARKET UNTIL SUZUKI CAN GET IT RIGHT. THESE BIKES ARE DEATH TRAPS WAITING TO VIBRATE LOOSE ON YOU IN MID RIDE. PERSONALLY I WOULD LIKE IT IF SUZUKI GAVE ME A NEW BIKE LIKE A GSX OR GSXR SINCE MY BIKE IS TOTALED BECAUSE THEIR STOCK EQUIPMENT FAILED TO WORK AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO. AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS NOT GOING TO COVER THE DAMAGE TO MY BIKE. *TR
MY SUZUKI SV1000S HAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. I FIRST NOTICED THIS PROBLEM WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START THE MOTORCYCLE IN MY GARAGE IN MAY OF 2011. I TURNED THE SWITCH AND NOTHING CAME ON. I CHECKED THE BATTERY AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH IT. MYSTERIOUSLY, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED WORKING SEVERAL DAYS LATER. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 3 TIMES. ON 09/26/2011, I WAS RIDING WITH MY 12-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER ON A BUSY 2-LANE ROAD. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL EVENING (5 PM, SUNNY, ABOUT 85 DEGREES). WE WERE APPROACHING A STOP SIGNAL (SPEED APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH). THE CLUTCH WAS ENGAGED AND I WAS LIGHTLY APPLYING FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. THE MOTORCYCLE LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER WHILE WE WERE STILL MOVING. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS, THE POWER WAS RESTORED AS MYSTERIOUSLY AS IT LEFT. PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS AS THERE HAS BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT POSTED ONLINE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT RESULTING IN INJURY OR THE LOSS OF LIFE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 SUZUKI SV1000S MOTORCYCLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE MOTOR AND OVERFLOWING INTO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK ON THE LIQUID SEPARATOR BRACKET INSIDE THE FUEL TANK AND UNDERNEATH, THE SEAMS WERE SEPARATED. AS A RESULT, THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEFECTIVE FUEL TANK WAS SENT TO THE DEALER TO BE INSPECTED WHO CONFIRMED DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE MOTORCYCLE HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V013000 ( FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY).
