ENGINEOct 2025

The contact owned a 2023 Porsche Macan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power and hesitated to restart as intended. No warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from under the hood, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the failure had progressed over time. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer; however, no failures were identified. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEMay 2025

When starting from a full stop and traveling approximately 25 mph, a car crosses in front of me. I make an emergency stop to avoid a collision. The car will then not shift out of first gear. I then must safely get off the highway, stop the car and when I restart the car everything works fine. This has occurred three times under almost the exact scenario over the first year of operation. This problem provides an unsafe condition for the carโ€™s occupants as well as others on the road. I have had the car inspected by three separate Porsche dealers. Their position is that they can find no problem with the car, but have never tried to reproduce the event (to dangerous). I have volumes of reports from Porsche, all saying that they can find no problem with the car .

Brakes slammed on and hard left turn initiated. Collision warning light flashed. There was nothing in front of me. Action caused an artery to tear in my lung. Hospitalized with life threating injury. Car had recently received 1st year service. Called dealer service manager to report failure, he said the car could not do this. Car has not been inspected at this time. Lawyer advised not to drive car, but also said his team had no equipment to review failure, needed to be taken to dealer who would probably not work with him. There are many of these failures on the internet, Also have friends how have had similar issues multiple times. How do i proceed?

Car sensor showed collision happening, without any external car onsite on a highway. And after pulling the car onto a safe place on the shoulder, upon hitting park gear the side rail airbags deployed. No accident happened to the car but airbags deployed unprovoked causing neck and face injuries to driver. Diagnostic report showed no damage to externally or undercarriage damage, with airbags deploying 18sec after sensor malfunction

Vehicle suddenly slammed on brakes on highway I90 in Chicago for NO apparent reason at 25mph. The car came to an immediate halt and if not for shoulder cars behind me would have stuck me. I am afraid to drive car. Dealership down plays faulty sensor, car has 2,000 miles. What assurance do I have to trust new sensor. System not redundant. I had no control of my vehicle and my life was at jeopardy. I will not trust.cat. Porsche is aware of issue for years yet nothing done to resolve. Phantom braking concerns litter the internet

EXTERIOR LIGHTINGMar 2026

On 03/17/2026, I reported a safety defect in the headlight assemblies of my 2022 Porsche Macan. Dealer inspection at Porsche of Tacoma confirmed small paper fragments marked with arrows lodged inside both headlight housings. The fragments have progressively become dislodged and are now at risk of becoming freely mobile within the sealed assemblies. A loose paper object inside the housing creates a plausible risk of ignition/fire, interference with adaptive headlight aiming or mechanisms, and impaired roadway illumination, any of which could increase the likelihood of crash, injury, or death. Porsche of Tacoma (service advisor: Jayce) acknowledged the condition but refused warranty coverage, stating the vehicle is one month past the warranty expiration. The condition is present on both headlight assemblies and appears systemic, not isolated to a single unit. I request investigation and corrective action, including inspection and free repair or recall if a safety-related defect is confirmed. Photographs and dealer service notes are available upon request. This paper has been coming loose within th housing for over one year, but 03/17/2026 was the first time it had been formally addressed.

POWER TRAINOct 2024

I was driving the car and warning light โ€œpossible R gear fault-driving permittedโ€ came on. While driving on a highway at 50 mph, gear shift started malfunctioning and oscillating between 2nd and 4th gears and I could not change the gears. I lost control of the car speed and it would drop to 25-30mph even if I stepped on the gas pedal. It felt like the car would come to a complete standstill on a highway with other cars driving around me at 50-60+ mph. I had my car towed to Porsche dealership. They spent 2 weeks at the dealership and said that they have replaced a transmission valve body. They told me to take the car back. Based on suddenly losing the control of the car speed on a highway, I did not feel safe to put the car back on the road. Porsche company offered money to cover rental car cost but refused to repurchase the car and provide me with another lease car. Although they were not sure whether this incident could recur and I told them that, for the safety of myself and other drivers, this car should not be placed back on the road. There are several Porsche owner forums which reported multiple identical incidents but both dealership and Porsche company were ignoring the ownersโ€™ concerns and putting the problem under a rug. This is a serious manufacturer defect and Porsche cars are known to have these transmission issues but no recall has been made to address such significant safety issues that may cause multi-vehicle accidents. They are also refusing to issue a statement that they would be fully liable if a similar transmission failure recurs and results in accidents that could potentially endanger the drivers involved. I would be happy to provide the car for inspection.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHERMay 2023

Hi - I hope all is well. I have had the below issues with my vehicle and the dealer is saying they cannot replicate them. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle and Iโ€™ve been complaining of the same issues since I got it. The speedometer flickers at random start time and when I drive, The radio still goes in and out after it was replaced. The car still randomly turns off at lights or ticket kiosks at the mall. It will ask me to restart the engine. This is insane. I didnโ€™t pay for this vehicle to have such a bad and unsafe situation. This needs to be handled.

Steering Gear. It has been replaced and is not available to inspect. I was unable to turn the steering wheel and had an auto accident as a result. The dealer inspected the vehicle and replaced the steering gear under warranty. It is probable that the defective gear was sent by the dealer to the manufacturer to inspect. The warning lamps activated after the accident.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEJan 2026

Collion Warning alarm came on with full application of brakes with no vehicles in front or behind. No onward traffic either. Visibility was clear, and driving conditions good. Driving at 35-40 mph. Informed dealer three times (and three different individuals) on December 31 and despite a bevy of promises they have taken no action. Placed warning on Macan.com and several other (purported) owners claimed to have experienced an identical issue. This is self-evidently highly dangerous. Lack of responsivess from Porsche dealer [XXX] ) has also been derisable. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The problem has persisted but in November and December they dealer has been unable to reproduce on their test drive.

VISIBILITY/WIPEROct 2025

I was driving home in my 2024 Porsche Macan 4 EV, at about 65 miles per hour on a divided highway. I had my climate control set to 75 degrees on both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle. I believe that the air conditioning was set to off. I also had the drivers seat heated at the max setting. I was alone in my vehicle. It was the first time since I owned my Macan that I had set the heat to that temperature. Approximately 10 minutes into my drive on the highway, I started smelling an acrid smell. I assumed that the smell was coming from outside of my vehicle. I could smell the acrid smell, however, I could not see the source of the smell. Then, I started seeing a very light gray or white smoke coming out of the defroster vents at the base of the windshield. The amount of smoke wasnโ€™t overpowering however, I was concerned if the vehicle was going to catch fire. I opened the driverโ€˜s window in an effort to let the smoke get out of the vehicle. The smoke and the acrid smell lasted perhaps 20 seconds or so; I canโ€™t say for sure. I drove perhaps another five minutes on the highway to my exit and happened to be near my former Porsche dealer. I brought the vehicle to a halt in their parking lot away from other vehicles. I opened up the front trunk and looked for any issues and attempted to find any hot areas in that front trunk. I could not locate anything unusual. I then drove another 10 minutes to get home and parked the Porsche on my driveway. I didnโ€™t experience any further issues this evening. While searching online for individuals experiencing a similar issue, it appears that the issue results from a defective passenger compartment electric heater (ZX17), detailed here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11017831-0001.pdf I will continue to monitor this in the next few days.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEJul 2025

My car has intermittently triggered false collision warningsโ€”approximately 8 to 10 times over ~8,500 miles. Each time, while driving between 20โ€“40 mph with no visible obstacles, the system issued an orange collision alert, sounded an alarm, and abruptly applied the brakes. This sudden braking poses a serious safety risk, as it could cause a rear-end collision. The vehicle has been at the dealer for 14 days and remains there, as theyโ€™ve been unable to replicate the issue or find any stored fault codes.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEJun 2025

I was driving at 40mph on a town road on a dry, sunny day when, without warning, the brakes slammed on extremely forcefully, almost to a full stop, and a big triangle showed on the dashboard with the words COLLISION WARNING. I donโ€™t recall if there was an audible alarm or not. The warning disappeared and the car resumed forward motion almost as quickly as it had appeared. My body jolted forward against my seat belt and items on the passenger seat went flying forward and fell on the floor. There were no other cars on the road at the time but, if there had been anyone in back of me, it very well could have caused an accident. My neck and chest are quite sore the day after this happened. I stopped the car and walked around outside and did not see anything out of the ordinary - nothing in the road either. It was a paved secondary road without potholes in the immediate vicinity. The dealership will be picking up the car to inspect it and implement an โ€œalertโ€ upgrade service for the front camera system that may or may not have any connection to the problem.

SERVICE BRAKESJan 2025

The car's power brake system stopped working. We did not incur an accident just because we found a side road before the upcoming traffic light; otherwise, it would have been a disaster. This car also had other software issues, but it was not as alarming. We believe driving is unsafe. The manufacturer is offering a payment to get back that car and drive it. Still, unless the competent authorities take responsibility for checking that the Porsche Macan EV is safe to drive, our family will not be Porsche's guinea pig. We did not get into an accident just for pure luck, but what will happen if the issue occurs again? The car is under warranty, but another power brake failure can be fatal. It is not an easy position to be in.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINEMay 2026

Vehicle developed a check engine light and camshaft sensor fault at approximately 48,000 miles. Engine began making abnormal ticking noise and later entered reduced power/limp mode condition. Vehicle was initially evaluated by an authorized Porsche dealership, where damage to the camshaft trigger/tone wheel and internal mechanical concerns within the valvetrain were identified through diagnostic evaluation and bore scope inspection. Supporting documentation from the authorized Porsche dealership, including bore scope video and diagnostic findings, has been retained. A Porsche-focused independent repair facility later identified a fractured rocker arm within the valvetrain assembly as the root cause of the failure. The failed rocker arm caused contact damage to the camshaft and related components. Repair facility advised that further movement of the failed component could have resulted in catastrophic engine failure. Failed component has been retained and documented with photographs. Vehicle required major valvetrain and camshaft repair. Concern involves internal engine component failure at relatively low mileage with potential loss of power and severe engine damage.

UNKNOWN OR OTHERJan 2026

The CHIME SPEAKER in the failed with less than vehicle 11,000 miles on the odometer. This extremely low mileage indicates that the failure is due to a manufacturing defect rather than standard wear and tear. I am particularly concerned because this is not merely a convenience issue; it is a significant safety concern. The chime speaker is the primary method of delivering audible alerts for: - Turn Signal Indicators: The lack of an audible "click" prevents confirmation that signals are active, which can lead to driver error or unintentional signaling. - Seatbelt Warnings: Critical reminders for passenger safety are now silenced. - System Fault Alerts: Any immediate mechanical or electrical warnings from the vehicleโ€™s diagnostic systems are currently uncommunicated to the driver. - Lane departure warnings. - Collision alerts - Blind spot alerts - Other advanced driving assist and safety systems. The fault has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealer (Porsche Tysons Corner). The fault is also confirmed by the vehicles onboard diagnostic and warning system. The dealers proposed fix is to replace the entire instrument cluster at a cost of more than $5000 or turn the repair over to an audio shop in hopes that they can replace remove the instrument cluster and replace the chime speaker with a non-OEM part as the OEM lowest replaceable part is the entire instrument cluster. This is safety issue because very few vehicle owners will be will to spend more than $5000 to repair/replace the chime speaker.

๐Ÿ’ฅ CrashPOWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKESJan 2026

On November 12, 2025 the transmission, power train, and/or other components on my Porsche Macan S failed. My Macan was parked (gear selector in "Park") on a level surface, the ignition turned off and the key removed from the ignition when it was tapped from behind by another vehicle that was exiting a residential garage. The Macan proceeded to roll over two hundred feet from the impact, jumped two curbs, crossed a street with active traffic, and finally stopped when it hit a tree. There was extensive damage to my vehicle but fortunately there were no injuries because the Macan was unmanned at the time of impact. If there were pedestrians and/or other vehicles crossing the path of the Macan they would have been hit. There were no warning signs prior to the failure. This incident has been reported to Porsche Cars North America, Inc. ("PCNA"). I requested an inspection of my vehicle at an authorized Porsche repair dealership but was told: "PCNA has determined that our involvement would not be required in this matter therefore, we are unable to investigate it further". PCNA has disavowed any responsibility for the manufacturer's defect that endangers other drivers, pedestrians and me, given the risk of reoccurrence.

This page shows fleet averages across all 10 model years. Enter a VIN to see the exact accident history, odometer records, title brands, and open recall status for a specific car.

๐Ÿ“– Understanding This Data

๐Ÿ“‹

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is โ€” but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Porsche Macan has 151 complaints on record across 10 model years.

๐Ÿ””

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Porsche Macan has 15 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

๐Ÿ’ฅ

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 10 of the Porsche Macan's 151 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions โ€” a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

๐Ÿค–

How Is the AI Rating Calculated?

The AI reliability rating (Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. The rating provides a plain-English summary for buyers who want a quick verdict without parsing raw numbers. It is one input in your buying decision โ€” always verify with a VIN-specific report.

๐Ÿ“Š

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable โ€” simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

๐Ÿ”

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Porsche Macan vehicles on the road โ€” not any specific car. Two Porsche Macan vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

๐Ÿ”Ž

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage โ€” NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Porsche Macan has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
