FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCEMay 2026

On 3 separate occasions while making a left hand turn against traffic, the car has initiated emergency braking and shown the ‘collision warning’ alert on the dashboard. Each time there were no cars approaching and the car halted to a complete stop. The first two instances I had my 10 year old in the car. Tonight I was alone. It is terrifying and I know this is not a rare occurrence with Porsches. An online forum has tons of other Porsche owners saying the same thing and we are being encouraged to file a report with NHTSA.

i was driving my car and at a stop sign i started accelerating when the light turned green - i must have been going 45 mPH after the light and all of a sudden my car went into hyper acceleration speeding up to 80 mph, i was pumping my brakes and the car was still raging to accelerate. I almost ran into a semi truck in front of me becuase i could not stop my car from accelerating, my foot was on the brake padel not the accelerator and it would slow down but as soon as I take the foot off of the brake - it would go into a rage accelration again, my car also gave WBA restricted warnings while accelerating. I was finally about 2 miles of stoping and accelerating pull into a sholder with my brakes slammed, and parking brake pulled, the car finally came to a stop. I was also being followed by other cars and could have caused them to run into me as i tried to stop the car.

In-car entertainment, transmissions controls, audio controls, climate controls (front and rear) , car will shut off without turning the key in off position, often times the vehicle will just terminate a call with no warning - no explantion, the rear camera on the screen in reverse show the rear of the car but it stays on for like 10 seconds when moving forward in drive, all of these are selected one the center console but placing your hand and fingers on the panel you accidentally select features or controls - this is dangerous because you hit things that you don't want and is distracting. the entertainment system does not have the features they represent that they do and you are constantly distracted with trying to find a feature that it doesn't have or can't find; using the phone will not allow you to use the keypad until stopped. so what you end up doing is using your iPhone which becomes a safety issue. there are so many problems that I can't message all. If you can give me a link I can't send or upload about 50 videos. I think all around to use the center counsel because hazardous design as to how to use a feature - it's a massive safety issue and hazard. I believe that many owners have been in accidents and caused damages and perhaps deaths. Porsche will not respond after the first call a few months ago. I was told by a dealer to contact the BBB - they told me that Porsche cars of America has a D minus rating and never has responded to customer complaints. I did discover that they made massive changes in the 2024 model. no wonder - I will stop here - will; attach a few photo's but there is no explanation. please help!!

UNKNOWN OR OTHERJun 2024

Remote lock using a phone app locks the door while the trunk is open. This is considered a health and safety concern as individuals assume the vehicle is locked and secured while the vehicle is exposed to theft, misuse, or even the safety of passenger

VISIBILITY/WIPERMay 2024

The drivers side wiper leaves a streak at drives eye level during most rain events. My dealer has replaced the wiper 3 times but this has not fixed the issue. My Dealer has verified this is happening and verified this happens on all Porsche Cayenne vehicles of this age and model. According to FMVSS 104 and SAE J1903 the area A (drivers viewing area) must be 99% cleaned. This streak is an arc about 2" tall and the full length of the wiper travel. Changing the speed of the wiper system does not eliminate the streak. This has not caused a crash yet but I feel it may in the future.

AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHERMay 2026

Porsche leather dashboard shrunk and staples pulled out. I was told if the vehicle was in an accident the airbag may not deploy properly. The Porsche dealer looked at it recommend that it be replaced. This is a known manufacturer defect that has been occurring with many of Porsche leather dashboards in different models. The manufacture is not taking responsibility in repairing or recalling this dangerous situation and putting the cost onto the customer. The fact that this is an option they offer as an additional cost on their vehicles , knowing this is a dangerous defect. This alone should automatically issue recall to fix before someone gets seriously injured.

AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHERMay 2026

The leather dash is peeling irregularly and will not deploy the passenger airbag properly if vehicle is involved in an accident and could result in death of a passenger. Serious problem with Cayenne SUV’s and Porsche refuses to address the problem with multiple complaints from other owners.

ENGINEApr 2026

sudden total drivetrain failure at 52k mi with no warning, child passenger, prior dealer-documented leak that was not escalated.

POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHERApr 2026

At approximately 52,000 miles, the vehicle experienced a sudden catastrophic transmission / driveline failure while in use. The failure created serious concern about safe operation and reliability and left the vehicle disabled or unsafe to continue driving normally. An authorized Porsche dealer evaluated the vehicle and stated that the repair would require replacement of the entire transmission assembly at very high cost. No practical parts-level repair option has been provided. I am reporting this because a sudden major powertrain failure at this mileage may indicate a safety-related defect.

AIR BAGSMar 2026

Bubbled dashboard is considered as a safety issue that airbag may NOT be properly deployed when an accident occurs.

BACK OVER PREVENTIONFeb 2026

The contact owns a 2019 Porsche Cayenne. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V896000 (Back Over Prevention). The contact called a local dealer and the manufacturer but was advised that the part for the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure.

AIR BAGS,VISIBILITY/WIPERJan 2026

SAFETY ASSESSMENT: 2019 Porsche Cayenne S Dashboard Material Failure Vehicle Identification: VIN [XXX] , Current Odometer: 46639 Assessment Date: 12/11/2025 Evaluator: [XXX] , Registered Owner/Operator ________________________________________ EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The dashboard upper assembly in this vehicle exhibits progressive adhesive delamination and synthetic leather separation (colloquially “bubbling”) across the instrument cluster housing and passenger airbag deployment zone. This defect, while initially cosmetic, presents measurable safety risks under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) by compromising passive restraint systems, driver visibility, and interior structural integrity during collision events. The failure pattern is consistent with documented manufacturing defects affecting 2018-2022 Cayenne production units. ________________________________________ TECHNICAL ANALYSIS Defect Manifestation: •Multi-point adhesive failure between dashboard substrate and synthetic leather wrap •Bubbles ranging 2-8cm diameter directly above passenger-side airbag module •Progression rate: 15% surface area increase over 4-month observation period •Material: Thermoplastic olefin (TPO) substrate with polyurethane coating exhibiting UV-degradation and outgassing Root Cause: Inadequate adhesive curing during manufacturing combined with incompatible material expansion coefficients, resulting in progressive de-lamination under thermal cycling. ________________________________________ SAFETY CONCERNS 1. PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT (FMVSS 208 Violation Risk) 2. DRIVER VISIBILITY IMPAIRMENT (FMVSS 101 Violation Risk) 3. INTERIOR STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY (FMVSS 201/214) 4. SECONDARY PROJECTILE HAZARD 5. OCCUPANT HEALTH & COGNITIVE LOAD This defect constitutes a latent safety hazard that degrades over time, not a static cosmetic issue. The combination of airbag deployment trajectory interference, driver visibility impairment, structural integrity compromise. AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHERDec 2025

Porsche leather dashboard shrunk and is loose; I was told airbags may not deploy correctly. Porche recommended replacing the dashboard. This is a very common issue.

AIR BAGSDec 2025

The dashboard material cover is pulling away lifting up from the dashboard where air bags are located. Not safe

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINENov 2025

While driving my 2019 Porsche Cayenne S on the freeway, the check-engine light came on, followed by a message on the dashboard that read “Engine Control fault – Driving permitted – Visit workshop.” Moments later, the vehicle suddenly lost power and decelerated from about ~75 mph to around 55 mph, even though my foot was still on the accelerator. I am [XXX] pregnant and had our [XXX] child in the car at the time. The unexpected loss of speed in fast-moving traffic was frightening. I had to quickly change lanes to reach the slower lane and avoid being hit by other vehicles. After reaching safety, I drove the car to an authorized Porsche dealership, where technicians found an active water-pump leak with coolant entering the vacuum system, which may have caused turbocharger and engine-power failure. This is after I replaced the water pump last year at another porsche dealership. A photo taken during the incident shows the dashboard warning message as it appeared. This incident created a serious safety hazard, as the vehicle displayed “driving permitted” even though it was at risk of a sudden loss of propulsion at highway speeds. The car and the failed components are available for inspection. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHERAug 2025

Porsche dashboard leather shrunk and staples pulled out, I was told that if the vehicle was in an accident the air bags might not deploy properly . the Porsche dealer looked at it and recommended replacing it . this is a very common issue .

AIR BAGSAug 2025

leather dashboard bubbles up and could effect the deployment of the passenger airbag

AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHERJul 2025

The leather dashboard has shrunk to the point where the the Porsche dealer recommend replaceing it. This appears to be an issue serious enough to prevent the airbag from deploying correctly if in an accident. This appears to be a common issue.

EXTERIOR LIGHTINGJul 2025

Seals around both headlights appear to be improperly/weakly sealed. Water intrusion is coming in from light rain or even a car wash causing entire headlight system to shut off until the moisture dries up often while driving. This vehicle has matrix adaptive led headlights and there is no self service bulb to replace since they’re leds. Local Porsche dealer service advisors appear to know this is a common issue but state Porsche has yet to do a recall and they have no fix option and only offer to sell me a full headlight assembly replacement.

AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHERApr 2025

the dashboard has a fitted leather coating covering the airbag... the leather and its surrounding seals has melted.. almost entirely.. and it is rippled and uneven all around... this is widespread for these models and may cause problems with the airbag in the dash...the airbag has to be able to deploy without any problems.. the dash should be fixed so it is safe

📖 Understanding This Data

📋

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Porsche Cayenne has 112 complaints on record across 10 model years.

🔔

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Porsche Cayenne has 28 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

💥

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 3 of the Porsche Cayenne's 112 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

🧭

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Below Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

📊

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

🔍

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Porsche Cayenne vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Porsche Cayenne vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

🔎

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Porsche Cayenne has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
