AIR BAGSNov 2024

The passenger air bag indicator light indicates passenger air bag is OFF even when an adult is sitting in the seat. Therefore. I am afraid that if the vehicle were in an accident where airbags would deploy, the front right passenger airbag would not inflate. There is a recall on the sensors for the front right passenger airbag for my vehicle make model and year but according to my VIN my vehicle is not part of that recall. I suspect it should be.

STEERING,WHEELS,SERVICE BRAKESApr 2024

My car says service stabilitrak and my traction control light is still on whether I hit the button or not I just spent a grand for it to be fixed and it I’m still having the same issue my brakes will lock up or my wheel locks up uncontrollably I have almost gotten into numerous accidents because of it.

VEHICLE WILL NOT RESTART AND THE KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED. DASH INDICATOR FOR PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG, WHICH I BELIEVE AFFECTS ALL AIRBAGS IN THIS VEHICLE, 2007 PONTIAC TORRENT, TURNS ON WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED. I CALLED LOCAL DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE REPAIR WAS DONE SHORTLY AFTER IT WAS ISSUED. REGARDLESS OF THAT FACT THE SENSOR HAS FAILED AGAIN AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER OF THIS SENSOR ULTIMATELY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT, THE SELLING DEALER SHOULD ASSUME THAT RESPONSIBILITY.PLEASE ADVISE OF MY RIGHTS IN THIS MATTER.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PONTIAC TORRENT. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REAR ENDED IN OCTOBER OF 2019, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD GLAZES AS SHE WAS UNABLE TO SEE CLEARLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STABILITRAK WARNING LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HALEY BUICK GMC MIDLOTHIAN (9831 MIDLOTHIAN TURNPIKE, RICHMOND, VA 23235) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,000

WHEN I START MY 2007 PONTIAC TORRENT, IT SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE. BEGINNING WHEN I START MY CAR TO THE TIME I TURN IT OFF, IT SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE. I FLY THROUGH GASOLINE AND CANNOT FILL MY TAN ANYMORE THAN $10.00 OR ELSE IT GOES TO WASTE. SMELLS LIKE THERE IS A LEAK OR CRACK SOMEWHERE TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE CAR. IT'S A EXTREMELY STRONG ODOR!

UNKNOWN OR OTHERDec 2019

THE KEY CONTINUES TO GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION, I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP A FEW YEARS AGO WHEN IT STARTED HAPPENING, BUT IT DID NOT DISPLAY THE PROBLEM AT THE TIME SO IT CAN NOT BE FIXED. NOW THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE WHERE IT IS HAPPENING EVERYTIME I TURN OFF MY SUV AND THE KEY WILL NOT RELEASE UNTIL AN HOUR LATER, WHICH IS DRAINING THE BATTERY. I HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE NEW BATTERIES BEFORE NEEDED AND CAR UNABLE TO RESTART BECAUSE OF THE DRAIN BATTERY. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR ME, WHICH HAS LEFT ME STRANDED. SEVERAL OTHER PONTICS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.

AIR BAGSNov 2019

TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A DEALER TO DIAGNOSE WHY MY PASSENGER AIRBAG WOULD TURN OFF INTERMITTENTLY, I WAS TOLD THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE IS FAILING. AFTER A SHORT SEARCH IT SEEMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS MAKE/MODEL. ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE AIRBAGS TO NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. SINCE PRESENCE MODULES ARE INTEGRAL TO OCCUPANT SAFETY THEY SHOULD BE GOOD FOR THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE. THE LARGE AMOUNT OF OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE ALSO HAD THIS SAME ISSUE LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE ORIGINAL PARTS WERE FAULTY.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEMSep 2019

THE VEHICLE DELAYS SPEED ALMOST TO A CRAWL DURING ACCELERATION BETWEEN 40 AND 60 MILES PER HOUR. I SMELL GAS CONSTANTLY. DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THE VEHICLE IS DOING. BUT THE SMELL IS VERY STRONG WHEN I GET GAS, GO AROUND CORNERS, AND WHEN IT'S WARM OUT. THE FUMES GIVE MY HUSBAND AND I HEADACHES. I FEAR FOR MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN WHO RIDE IN THE CAR. THE FUEL LINES WERE REPLACED LAST SPRING TO PASS EMISSIONS TESTING. I'VE DONE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND SEE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ISSUED FOR FUEL PROBLEMS IN WARMER STATES. HOWEVER, THE STATE I LIVE HAS EXTREME TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATIONS FROM HOT TO COLD. AND GETS VERY COLD HERE IN THE WINTER. I'M NOT SURE IF THE EXTREME CHANGES COULD AFFECT WHAT PART WAS RECALLED. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. SO AS TO THE DURATION OF THE ONGOING ISSUE, I AM UNSURE. ALTHOUGH, I'VE HAD IT NOW FOR A MONTH.

SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW ! SITTING IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE ; IT DOESNT SENSE ANYONE SITTING THERE AND ALWAYS SHOW AIRBAG OFF AND DASH SAYS SERVICE AIR BAG !!! I DONT WANT TO REPLACE THE WHOLE SEAT WHICH IS AROUND $1,000 ; WHAT'S THE DIY SOLUTON HERE I AM NOT SAFE IN THIS CAR WITH SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT ON 100% OF TIME. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND IT HAS 160K NOW !

FOR THE PAST 1 1/2 YEARS MY CAR HAS BEEN SMELLING LIKE GAS. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY GAS CAP NOT SEALING. I BOUGHT A COUPLE NEW GAS CAP'S I WAS ABLE TO FIND ONE FROM ANOTHER TORRENT. IT DOES SEAL BUT SOMETIMES IT COMES UNSEALED. I HAVEN'T HAD THE ISSUE LOOKED AT BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT. EVERY TIME I'M IN MY CAR I FEAR THAT IT'S GOING TO EXPLODE. IT'S EVEN SCARIER WHEN I HAVE MY GRANDDAUGHTERS WITH ME. TODAY I WENT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY TOOK MY CAR OUT OF THE BAY IMMEDIATELY. THEY TOLD ME I HAD A SEVERE FUEL LEAK AND I SHOULDN'T DRIVE IT ANYMORE BECAUSE MY CAR COULD EXPLODE. THERE IS A MECHANIC RIGHT NEXT-DOOR AND THEY VERIFIED THAT I DO INDEED HAVE A BAD FUEL LEAK. TOMORROW I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THEM DROP MY TANK TO SEE WHAT THE LEAK IS COMING FROM. FROM RESEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR ISSUES LIKE THIS I FOUND THAT GM RECALLED THE 2007 PONTIAC TORRENT WITH CAMPAIGN NUMBER OF 12V459000. THE RECALL IS FOR FAULTY FUEL PUMPS. UNFORTUNATELY MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME I'VE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR AND THE SAME ISSUE. I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX MY CAR AND GET A NEW FUEL PUMP. I FEEL THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD REPLACE THIS FOR ME. GM HAS KNOWN ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMPS FOR MANY YEARS NOW BUT DID NOT NOTIFY ALL OWNERS. IT SHOULD BE A NATIONAL RECALL NOT JUST A RECALL FOR A FEW STATES. MY FAMILY'S LIVES ARE AT STAKE EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR WITH A FAULTY FUEL PUMP. - UPDATE THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE FUEL PUMP CAUSING A SEVERE FUEL LEAK. FOR MY SAFETY I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED IMMEDIATELY.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEMSep 2019

FOR THE PAST YEAR OR TWO MY CAR HAS BEEN SMELLING LIKE GAS. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY GAS CAP BECAUSE IT STOPPED SEALING. I REPLACED IT SEVERAL TIMES WITH A NEW ONE. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET AN ORIGINAL GAS CAP FROM ANOTHER TORRENT FROM FROM A JUNKYARD. THE GAS CAP GOES ON AND SEALS BUT STILL SOMETIMES COMES UNSEALED. I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING REGARDING THE SMELL OF GAS BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT OR HAVE ANYBODY LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. TODAY I DECIDED TO GO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY IMMEDIATELY PULLED MY CAR OUT OF THE BAY. THEY TOLD ME I NEED TO STOP DRIVING MY CAR BECAUSE THERE IS A SEVERE FUEL LEAK AND MY CAR COULD EXPLODE. THANKFULLY THERE IS A MECHANIC RIGHT NEXT-DOOR AND I HAD THEM LOOK AND THERE IS A VERY BAD FUEL LEAK. TOMORROW I AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE THEM DROP THE TANK SO THAT THEY CAN FIND OUT WHAT IS LEAKING. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR ISSUES LIKE THIS AND I CAME ACROSS THE RECALL FROM GM FOR A FUEL PUMPS FOR A 2007 PONTIAC TORRENT THE RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 12V459000. HOWEVER, THIS RECALL STATES THAT MY CAR DOESN'T QUALIFY. THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME I HAVE READ SO MANY THINGS ON THIS SITE THAT SHOW MANY OTHER VEHICLES LIKE MINE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. FOR THE PAST SIX MONTHS OR SO THE SMELL OF THE FUEL HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE AND WORSE. EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR I HAVE THOUGHTS AND VISIONS OF IT BLOWING UP. IT SCARES ME WHEN I HAVE TO HAVE MY GRANDDAUGHTERS WITH ME I FEAR FOR THEM. I HAVE ALSO BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING MY CAR LATELY AND WITH MY RESEARCH IT SEEMS LIKE IT COULD BE FROM A LEAKING FUEL PUMP. I FEEL THAT MY CAR SHOULD BE PART OF THE RECALL AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED AND OR REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX A DEFAULTED FUEL PUMP THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAS KNOWN ABOUT BUT HAS NOT NOTIFIED ALL OWNERS OF A 2007 PONTIAC TORRENT. MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF MY GRANDDAUGHTERS SHOULD BE SAFE IN MY CAR.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations — here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Pontiac Torrent, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Pontiac Torrent has 243 complaints on record across 4 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Pontiac Torrent has 0 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 7 of the Pontiac Torrent's 243 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Poor) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Pontiac Torrent vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Pontiac Torrent vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Pontiac Torrent has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
