TIRESMar 2026

225/60R17 tire purchased new started going flat in the first week. Walmart tire said there was no warranty. Receipt says otherwise. P&M tire of Blackwell, OK found defects in the interior sidewall and told us the tire had manufacturing defects. Reported to Nexen by making an account and filing a warranty request which they denied. They keep saying we are lying to deflect blame. We have the tire, it could be inspected by their preferred tire shop but they would rather be mad and yell at us. There is no receipt from P&M because they didn't charge us for looking at a tire they could not repair.

The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel was locked. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the gear shifter failed to operate as intended. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The failure persisted, and the vehicle remained at the residence unrepaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V385000 (STEERING). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMApr 2019

DRIVING ON HUMID DAY, CLOSED WINDOWS AND TURNED ON A/C. CONTROLLER FAILED TO CLOSE DEFROSTER VENTS, CAUSING WINDOW TO QUICKLY FOG UP, RESTRICTING FORWARD VISION. PREVIOUSLY HAD SAME PROBLEM ON 2006 GRAND MARQUIS WHICH I HAD REPAIRED BY FORD DEALER. TOOK 2011 TO DEALER, GOT REPAIR ESTIMATE OF $900, AS DASHBOARD MUST BE REMOVED TO GET TO FAILING PART. AM TOLD PROBLEM IS VACUUM LEAK IN CONTROLLER COMPONENT. ALTHOUGH ASSOCIATED WITH A/C, WHICH GENERALLY IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE, THE CONTROLLER FAILURE DOES RESULT IN A SAFETY ISSUE, AND IN MY OPINION SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO RECALL.

FireELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPERNov 2018

MY 2011 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS ULTIMATE EDITION, WAS VERY GREAT HOWEVER IT CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS...THEY WOULD COME ON AUTOMATICALLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING, MY WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH WOULD BE ON THE OFF POSITION... AND THE WIPERS ONLY WORKED ON A HIGH SPEED SEEING NONE OF THE OTHER SPEEDS WORKED...PRIME EXAMPLE I WOULD WARM UP THE CAR FOR 10 MIN...BECAUSE ITS COLD OUTSIDE THEN I WOULD DRIVE, ALL OF A SUDDEN MINUTES LATER, MY WINDSHIELD WIPER TURN ON BY ITSELF IN A HIGH SPEED POSITION , I TURNED THE WIPERS ON SO I CAN SEE IF TURNING OFF WOULD HELP IT DOESN'T SO CLEARLY IT HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN...AS IF A GHOST WAS IN IT...I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM..CLEARY THERE ARE OTHER MODELS OF THE SAME AND DIFFERENT YEAR NUMBERS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM...THEY SAY ITS EITHER THE WIPERS MOTOR A RELAY OR THE WHOLE LEFT, RIGHT INDICATED SWITCH WHICH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORKS OFF OF...LONG STORY SHORT MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE THE MORNING OF NOV.21, 2018 A DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING IN MY DRIVEWAY WHICH COULD HAVE SET MY CAR ON FIRE..HAD TO CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AT 1:45AM IN THE MORNING. DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE THE CAR HAD..IT LOOKED LIKE A MOVIE WITH THE CAR ON FIRE. BECAUSE CLEARLY IF THE CAR IS PARKED AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS MOTOR IS STILL TRYING TO MOVE WITH NO POWER TO THE CAR...I LOVED THAT CAR SO MUCH..IT ALMOST CAUGHT MY HOUSE ON FIRE...COULD HAVE EXPLODED AND PUT MY FAMILY AT RISK.WHICH IT DID. AS MUCH AS I LOVE FORD, LINCOLN, MERCURY I AM JUST SADDENS AND DEVASTATED THAT THE CAR I WANTED LOVED AND BOUGHT OR SHALL I SAY FINANCED IS TOTALLED BUY AN ELECTRICAL FIRE THAT BURNED THE INSIDE ALL UP IN MY CAR AND ENGINE IS BURNED OUT....AND THE FIRE WHEN I WAS WOKEN UP TO HEAR THIS WHEN I CALLED 911 AND WAS LOOKING OUTSIDE THE FIRE THAT I SEEN STARTED FROM THAT DRIVER SIDE FRONT WINDSHIELD WITH FIRE COMING FROM THE MOTOR OF THE WIPER ONTO HOOD

AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTSSep 2017

THE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINS ON ALL THE TIME. MY MECHANIC SAYS THAT CAR'S COMPUTER IS GENERATING A CODE INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH A SENSOR IN DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT. HE SAYS THAT THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $500. THE CAR ONLY HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND APPEARS FROM THE MANY COMPLAINTS YOU'VE RECEIVED TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2005 GRAND MARQUIS'S, I URGE DOT TO ISSUE A RECALL TO REQUIRE THE MANUFACTURER TO PAY FOR THE NECESSARY REPAIRS.

FireELECTRICAL SYSTEMApr 2016

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I SMELLED A WEIRD SMELL COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEN I TURNED TO LOOK TOWARDS THE DIRECTION OF THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR IT WAS SMOKING SO I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF HIGHWAY AS I WAS DOING SO THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR CAUGHT FIRE. I FINISHED PULLING OVER TURNED THE CAR OFF GOT OUT AND PULLED MY FIRE EXTINGUISHER OUT TRUNK WENT TO THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE DOOR IN ORDER TO PUT THE FLAMES OUT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. TRULY UPSET AND SCARED ME. CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAPPENED. I DID TAKE THE DOOR PANEL OFF WHAT'S I FIGURED IT SAFE TO AND TRY TO FIND WHERE AND HOW THE FIRE STARTED AND AS WELL TO MAKE SURE THE FIRE WAS COMPLETELY EXTINGUISHED. ALL I COULD SEE WAS SOME EXPOSED WIRES THAT WERE PARTIALLY COVERED IN BLUE TAPE. I WAS VERY LEARY TO DRIVE ON HOME BUT DID SO CAUTIOUSLY WITH WINDOWS DOWN. GRATEFUL I MADE IT HOME AND MY FAMILY WASN'T IN THE CAR. TOOK PICTURES THEY WILL BE ATTACHED.

THROTTLE BODY FAILURE__ ENGINE GOES TO DEAD IDLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, LEAVING THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS HELPLESS TO EXIT ONTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE OR SHOULDER IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE WHEN IT HAPPENS, IE IF YOU ARE ON A 70 MPH INTERSTATE IN THE CENTER LANE WITH VEHICLES PASSING YOU ON BOTH SIDES WHILE YOU ARE HELPLESSLY COASTING TO A STOP UNABLE TO REMOVE YOURSELF FROM THE CENTER LANE, YOU WOULD BE SUBJECT TO CAUSE A CHAIN REACTION ACCIDENT. FORD REFUSED TO FIX THIS VEHICLE AT THEIR EXPENSE, AND WANTED TO CHARGE ME $189 DOLLAR FEE TO ANALYSE THE PROBLEM, WHEN THEY ALREADY KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG,(ACCORDING TO THE TECH PERSON I SPOKE WITH WHO SAID THEY HAVE REPLACED HUNDREDS OF THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS) THE PART COST $543 DOLLARS NOT INCLUDING LABOR ON A VEHICLE WITH 71 THOUSAND MILES ON IT. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SHOULD BE RECALLED ASAP

MY 2010 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS HAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY, IT LEFT ME TERRIFIED AND STRANDED ON I-95 SOUTH IN THE CENTER LANE OF A 70 MPH 3 LANE INTERSTATE. THE ENGINE ALL OF A SUDDEN WENT TO DEAD IDLE, GAS PEDAL WAS INOPERATIVE, I STILL HAD STEERING AND BRAKES BUT DIDN'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO GET OVER ON THE SHOULDER WITH CARS AND BIG TRUCKS SCRAMBLING TO GET AROUND ME, THANK GOD IT WAS DAYLIGHT. WHILE WE HAD DECELERATED TO ABOUT 30 MPH MY WIFE STUCK HER HAND OUT THE PASSENGER WINDOW WAVING FRANTICALLY AND SOME EXTREMELY SMART TRUCK DRIVER REALIZED WE WERE IN TROUBLE AND LET US OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE IN FRONT OF HIM AN THEN ONTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF SHUTTING DOWN AND RESTARTING IT FINALLY WENT BACK TO OPERATING PROPERLY, WHEN WE GOT HOME I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY, THEY TOLD ME I HAD NO RECOURSE BUT TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED,(THE PART ALONE IS 546 DOLLARS, NOT INCLUDING LABOR) MY CAR IS LIKE BRAND NEW WITH 70,000 MILES ON IT AND IS ONLY DRIVEN ON LONG TRIPS. WE ARE RETIRED PEOPLE ON A SSI INCOME AND FEEL LIKE FORD SHOULD ASSIST US IN GETTING THIS REPAIRED BEING THAT WE ARE STILL ALIVE TO TALK ABOUT. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT THEY HAD NO RECORD OF US AS OWNERS OF THIS CAR, WE BOUGHT IT FROM A LINCOLN MERCURY DEALER AS A PROGRAMMED CAR BUT FORD ONLY KNOWS OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER SO IF THERE WAS EVER A RECALL ON IT WE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER AND FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE, HOW MANY ACCIDENTS HAVE TO HAPPEN OR LAWSUITS FILED BEFORE THE BEAN COUNTERS SAY ENOUGH, LETS RECALL THESE VEHICLES OR AT LEAST ASSIST PEOPLE WITH DEFECTIVE CAR PARTS? *TR

Before you buy, check the exact Mercury Grand Marquis

These pages show model-year patterns across 10 years. Enter a VIN to verify the exact vehicle's accident history, title brands, odometer records, and open recall status before purchase.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations — here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Mercury Grand Marquis, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Mercury Grand Marquis has 1,723 complaints on record across 10 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Mercury Grand Marquis has 26 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 120 of the Mercury Grand Marquis's 1,723 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Poor) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Mercury Grand Marquis has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
