Component/system failed: Passenger seat occupant classification/seat weight sensor associated with the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Repair facility stated moisture or prior moisture intrusion likely affected the sensor. The failed component should be available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: The airbag/SRS system may not properly detect or classify a passenger, which could affect passenger airbag operation and occupant protection during a crash. The airbag warning light remained illuminated. Problem reproduced or confirmed: Yes. The issue was diagnosed and confirmed by the repair facility/dealer. Inspected by manufacturer, insurance, or others: The vehicle was inspected by a repair facility/dealer service department. Warning lamps/messages/symptoms: The airbag/SRS warning light illuminated. The repair facility identified the passenger seat weight sensor as the likely cause and noted prior moisture exposure affecting the sensor.
The Passenger Occupant Classification System in the passenger seat is showing an airbag code of B00A0-02 on my 2018 Infiniti Q70L . The dealer cannot clear that code. The only solution is to replace the entire seat bottom (leather/foam/all electronics for raising the seat) all integrated. That part number is 87300-6ar3a and sells for $2800 plus labor to replace, over $600. My 2018 Infiniti Q70L only has 10300 Miles, garage kept. This integrated design has been problematic for the Q70 and Q50. Cost to repair is enormous. Infiniti should acknowledge this issue. It is a MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, because if not repaired the passenger airbag is permanently turned off and for a failure for a car with so few miles and meticulously kept, this is unacceptable. I have 2 of the Q70's and its a matter of time before the other vehicle show the same issue.
I have an immaculately maintained 2018 Infiniti Q70L, but the OCS system began having issues at under 75k miles. Originally, the problem was the passenger seat sensor not detecting someone in the seat, so airbags were disabled. This occured sporadically for a year, but no codes were detectable by dealership. Now the airbag sensor light flashes continually, which began happening a few weeks ago. The dealership has now informed me that the OCS system has internal faults and the entire system must be replaced at a price of nearly $10K. Other years of Infiniti vehicles have already been recalled for the same issues with airbags and sensors, yet the problem persists. Message boards are full of Infiniti owners dealing with this same issue on their vehicles that are also excluded from the recall. This is a known safety issue, and a major defect in manufacturing, due to no fault of the owners of the vehicles. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 INFINITI Q70. WHILE DRIVING IN A SNOW STORM, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS SEIZED IN THE DOWN POSITION. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALER (HERB CHAMBERS INFINITI OF WESTBOROUGH, 312 TURNPIKE RD, WESTBOROUGH, MA 01581, (508) 983-1000) STATED THAT THE WIPERS HAD A HEAT SENSOR THAT WAS DESIGNED TO TURN OFF IF THE HEAT ON THE WIPER ENGINE WAS TOO HIGH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 INFINITI Q70. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GEORGE HARTE INFINITI (1076 S COLONY RD, WALLINGFORD, CT 06492 (203) 495-6700). THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS RESET. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REPAIR DID NOT RECTIFY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
BOTH MY WIFE AND I FEEL THAT THE HEATED STEERING WHEEL GETS TOO HOT TO COMFORTABLY HOLD CONTINUOUSLY. THIS ENCOURAGES THE DRIVER TO TURN OFF THE STEERING WHEEL HEATER WHILE DRIVING. UNFORTUNATELY, THE SWITCH IS LOCATED IN THE LOWEST BANK AT THE DRIVERS LEFT KNEE WHERE IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE. IT IS ALSO IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE SWITCHES TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE DYNAMIC CONTROL, BACK-UP COLLISION INTERVENTION AND WARNING SYSTEMS. ALL OF THE ABOVE COMBINED RESULT IN THE DRIVER HAVING TO DIRECT THEIR ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE ROAD AND TO THE LOWER CONTROL PANEL AND, IN ADDITION, MAKES IT LIKELY THAT THEY WILL INADVERTENTLY TURN OFF A VEHICLE SAFETY SYSTEM. THE SERVICE MANUAL PROVIDES A RANGE OF 68F - 86F. THE DEALER MEASURED MINE AT 120F. SINCE THIS CLOSELY MATCHED ANOTHER Q70 ON THE LOT IT WAS DEEMED "NORMAL". I SUBMIT THAT IT IS NOT AND BELIEVE THAT IT NEEDS TO BE ATTENDED TO BEFORE IT RESULTS IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
While parking my car, with my foot on the brake, the accelerator engaged and went to the floor. This caused me to jump a medium and pull on to the road before I was able to stop the car. I was ale to stop with the engine still racing. I put the car into park and the accelerator disengaged. The dealer determined the accelerator was defective.
MY 2019 Q70L HAS HEATED STEERING WHEEL. WHEN IT SAYS "HEATED" I DID KNOW IT WAS GOING TO BE THIS HOT. AT THE SAME TIME ON MY SPOUSE 2020 QX60 IT WORKS PERFECT. THE CONNECTING POINT ON THE STEERING IS THE MOST HEAT. AS YOU MOVE THE PALM ITS NOT THAT MUCH. I DID MENTION IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER. THEY DON'T HAVE AN ANSWER. THEY SAY ITS NORMAL. BUT FROM MY EXPERIENCE FROM MY PREVIOUS VEHICLES ITS NOT. AND THEN ITS CUT OFF EVEN IF THE SWITCH IS TURNED ON. I CAN UNDERSTAND IT CUTTING OFF AFTER IT GETS TO A CERTAIN TEMPERATURE. BUT THEN IT GETS COLD AND NEVER COMES BACK ON. YOU HAVE TO TURN OFF THE SWITCH AND TURN BACK ON. NOT GOOD FOR A LONG DRIVE IN A COLD WEATHER. NOT SURE IF ONLY HAPPENS IN 2019 Q70L MODELS.
Violent shaking coming from under the vehicle occurred when I started it last week. The car turned off and I have not tried to turn it on again for fear of catastrophic failure. I searched open recalls for this vehicle and saw that the drive shaft was recalled for my make and model causing the same exact symptoms, violent shaking and stalling, but my Vin was not part of the recall. Please look into this issue further as I feel that my vehicle is experiencing the same issues as the batch that was recalled. Thank you

Came to a complete stop and when I tried to accelerate I had minimal to zero power.
Driver side airbag deployed as I was turning the corner leaving me with no visual of pedestrians. The deployment resulted in lacerations on my forearm and a knot on my head with a busted lip. My vehicle is technically not drivable because my seatbelts are locked. I am also afraid of driving my vehicle due to the other airbags deploying on my family out of no where. There were no prior lights or warnings to this incident.
During highway driving on May of 2022, the vehicle displayed an Intelligent Key Not Detected error while driving on cruise control. The accelerator was no longer responsive as the vehicle decelerated. The warning lights, infotainment center and A/C were still operational. Vehicle was maneuvered off the highway , but would not start up after power down. Vehicle battery was replaced, and the same error occurred 2 weeks later while the car was idled. Error reported to dealership with remedy of ECM reprogramming following guidelines of BULLETIN ITB13-054D.
The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti Q70. The contact stated while making a left turn, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that an unknown yellow warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that he was able to restart the vehicle and drove to his residence at 7 MPH. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission valve assembly to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,931.

The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti Q70. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate above 40 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that the output sensor and transmission control module (TCM) had failed. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer since the TCM part was on back-order. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the diagnostic report would be sent once completed. The failure mileage was 72,000.
CAR WILL STOP ACCELERATING WITH NO WARNINGS THEN WILL START BACK MOVE WHEN YOU LET THE SIT FOR AND HOUR. ENGINE LIGHT WILL NOT LIGHT UP WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED SO THE PROBLEM CAN NOT BE DIAGNOSED UNTIL THE ENGINE COME ON. HOWEVER WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT DOES COME YOU CAN TAKE TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL TELL THAT THE TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSORS NEED TO BE REPLACED IN WHICH THE SENSOR IS LOCATED INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION AND IN CONJUNCTION TO THAT IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE VALVE BODY SHOULD BE REPLACED ALSO. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF THE INFINITI'S WITH YEARS RANGING FROM 2014-2019 WITH 3.7 LITER ENGINE. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE RESOLVED BECAUSE THE CAR CAN SUDDENLY STOP MOVE AT HIGH SPEEDS AND CAUSE AND ACCIDENT. PLEASE TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THIS RECALL AAMCO TRANSMISSION HAVE HAD HUNDREDS OF INFINITI'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY CAN NOT REPAIR SO THEY WILL SEND YOU TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS IN WHICH IT WILL COST THE CONSUMER 3,000 PLUS TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY WILL RECOMMEND THAT YOU SHOULD GET THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED INSTEAD OF REPAIRING IT AND MOST OF THE VEHICLES ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH LOW MILEAGE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 INFINITI Q70. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE IN THE DRIVEWAY, IT SURGED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO THE PARKING BARRIER IN THE NEIGHBOR'S YARD. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE FRONT END AND UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SEVERE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,000. UPDATED 05/16/17*LJ *AS
HEADLAMPS LOW BEAMS DO NOT ILLUMINATE PROPERLY. THE IS ABSOLUTELY NO ILLUMINATION ABOVE A VERY LOW HORIZONTAL PLANE WHEN GOING DOWN A HILL OR UP A HILL. IN SOME CASES, THERE IS NO LIGHT VISIBLE BEYOND 30-40 FEET. THIS CREATES AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN NAVIGATION HILLY ROADS. IN FACT IT IS DOWNRIGHT SCARY TO DRIVE THIS CAR AT NIGHT. SPOKE TO DEALER AND THEY ADJUSTED THE BEAMS AS HIGH AS THEY COULD, BUT THIS DID NOT HELP. JUST LAST NIGHT I ALMOST HIT A DEER. I COULD NOT SEE FAR ENOUGH IN FRONT TO THE CAR. LUCKILY, I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP IN TIME.
THIS CAR VIBRATES WHEN TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 40MPH AND 65MPH. SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION CAN BE FELT IN THE CENTER CONSOLE AND ARMREST. MY CAR HAS A ESPECIALLY SEVERE VIBRATION AROUND 40 MPH WHEN DRIVING UP A HILL AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SET TO ECO MODE. VIBRATION CAN BE FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT SEAT. TIRES WERE ROAD FORCE REBALANCED BY THE DEALER, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. SINCE IT IS AT ONLY CERTAIN SPEEDS, THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED BY THE DEALER.

π Understanding This Data
What is an NHTSA Complaint?
An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Infiniti Q70L has 20 complaints on record across 8 model years.
What is a Safety Recall?
A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Infiniti Q70L has 6 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.
What Are Crash Complaints?
Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 1 of the Infiniti Q70L's 20 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β a key safety signal beyond general reliability.
How Is the AI Rating Calculated?
The AI reliability rating (Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. The rating provides a plain-English summary for buyers who want a quick verdict without parsing raw numbers. It is one input in your buying decision β always verify with a VIN-specific report.
Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?
Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.
Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN
Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Infiniti Q70L vehicles on the road β not any specific car. Two Infiniti Q70L vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.
What Are NHTSA Investigations?
When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Infiniti Q70L has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
