WE WERE SOLD A LEMON VEHICLE FROM EVANS MOTORS LOCATED AT 112 W ST JOHN ST, GIRARD KS BY EDDIE WALSH. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE NOW FOR A LITTLE OVER 1 MONTH. THE BACK BRAKES WENT OUT, THE FRONT BRAKES WENT OUT AS MY SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKE PADS WENT FLYING. THAT SAME DAY WE FOUND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD COST AROUND $1000 TO $3000 TO BE FIXED. EVANS MOTORS HAS YET TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO HELP FIX THIS ISSUE. THEY INFORMED US THAT WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AND IT IS NOW OUR PROBLEM NOT THEIRS. MY SON IS A COLLEGE STUDENT WITH AN INFANT 2 MONTH OLD SON AND HE NEEDS A DEPENDABLE VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT HIS SON IN, TO GO TO SCHOOL AND WORK. I WANT SOMEONE TO HELP ME WITH THE ISSUE AT HAND. *TR

AT APPROXIMATELY 11:00 PM ON JANUARY 04, 2004 I WAS HEADING EAST BOUND ON INTERSTATE 10 AND EXITED THE FREEWAY AT THE ORANGE GROVE EXIT. AS I APPROACHED THE ORANGE GROVE INTERSECTION I PROCEEDED ON A GREEN LIGHT TO MAKE A LEFT ONTO ORANGE GROVE. TRAVELING AT A REASONABLE SPEED FOR THE INTERSECTION, I NOTICED A LOUD POP IN THE FRONT END, AND CONSEQUENTLY LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. AT THIS TIME I WAS FORCED TO THE RIGHT AND CAME IN CONTACT PARALLEL TO A CEMENT BARRIER CAUSING MINIMAL BODY DAMAGE TO MY 2000 INFINITY G20. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. *LA

I WAS ON THE EAST BOUND RAMP MERGING INTO TRAFFIC, A 18 WHEELER (NO LOAD) SUPPOSEDLY SWERVED TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID HITTING A CAR THAT CROSSED IN FRONT OF IT. I TRIED TO AVOID THE ACCIDENT BUT COULDN'T BECAUSE THERE WAS NO PLACE TO GO (NO MEDIAN TO THE RIGHT) WHEN I NOTICED THE TRUCK HEADING TOWARDS ME, I THOUGHT I HAD GOTTEN OUT OF HIS WAY, HOWEVER, HE STATED THAT HIS WHEELS/BRAKES LOCKED CAUSING THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK TO HIT ME DIRECTLY ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. WHEN HE HIT MY CAR, I WAS KNOCKED ACROSS THE HIGHWAY AND ENDED UP IN THE MEDIAN POINTING WEST, I DID A COMPLETE 180 DEGREE TURN, THE WHOLE DRIVERS SIDE WAS DAMAGED, THE GLASS SHATTERED IN ONTO ME, MY SEATBELT FAILED TO RETRACT AND MY SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I ESTIMATE THAT I WAS GOING ABOUT 45 TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY, AND HE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DOING ABOUT 65 WHEN HE LOST CONTROL, FORTUNATELY THE TRAFFICE WAS NOT THAT HEAVY, IT WAS ABOUT 3PM ON A FRIDAY EVENING , THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND SUNNY, AND SINCE TRAFFIC WAS NOT TOO HEAVY ALL THE MOTORISTS WERE ABLE TO AVOID ME, AND I BELIEVE SEVERAL DIALED 911 WHEN IT HAPPENED BECAUSE THE CITY POLICE WAS THERE WITHIN MINUTES AND TOLD ME NOT TO MOVE THAT EMS AND THE STATE TROOPER WAS ON THE WAY. BOTH ARRIVED WITHIN 5 MINUTES AFTER I HAD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I WAS LEFT WITH RUPTURED DISCS IN MY NECK, BULGING DISCS IN MY LOWER BACK AND SOME NERVE DAMAGE. HE WAS ISSUED A CITATION BY THE STATE POLICE.*AK

SULFUR/EGGY SMELL COMING FROM EXHAUST SYSTEM. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP ON NUMEROUS OCCASSIONS (4 TIMES) WITH NO RESOLUTION. COMPLAINTS FILED WITH BBB, AND INFINITI CUSTOMER SERVICE. I WANT THE PROBLEM FIXED OR I WANT TO USE THE LEMON LAW AND GET MY MONEY BACK. A LETTER WAS ALSO SENT TO THE NHTSA.*AK

EQUIPMENTApr 2001

THIS IS A NEW CAR AND SUPPOSED TO BE UNDER WARRANTY. THE A/C WOULD NOT WORK WHEN TURNED ON THIS YR. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD A ROCK HIT THE CONDENSER AND PUT A HOLE IN IT. WAS TOLD THAT THAT IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. FIRST OF ALL, IF IT ONLY TAKES A ROCK TO PUT A HOLE IN THE CONDENSER, THAT IS DEFINANTLY A DESIGN FLAW. ROCKS ARE EVERYWHERE ON THE HIWAYS. IF THIS VEHICLE IS THIS BADLY DAMAGED BY NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS THEN THE MANUFACTURE SHOULD HAVE PLACED SOME KIND OF SHIELD OVER THESE CRITICAL COMPONENTS.*AK

SEAT BELTSAug 2000

BOTH REAR SEAT BELTS LOCK AROUND THE OCCUPANTS EXTREMELY TIGHT WITHIN 0-10 MINTUES, TRAPPING OCCUPANTS IN THE SEATS. THIS HAPPENS WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING, AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT MOVING. DEALERSHIP/MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN TOLD ABOUT THE SEAT BELT PROBLEM NUMEROUS TIMES. SOLUTION GIVEN DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF THE SEAT BELT. *AK THE SOLUTION BY THE DEALER IS TO UNHOOKING THE SEAT BELTS, SLOWLY LEFTING THEM RETRACT AND REHOOKING THEM. *YH *SLC

AIR BAGSApr 2017

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 INFINITI G20. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE AIR BAG SENSOR REMAINED ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

AIR BAGS,CHILD SEATAug 2008

THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING ONGOING RIGHT AFTER THE CAR'S WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 60,000. UPON RESEARCHING IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A FAULTY AIRBAG SENSOR WAS TO BLAME ON THIS 6 YEAR OLD CAR AND THAT SINCE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $1,000 TO REPLACE THIS FAULTY SENSOR. MOST MANUFACTURERS INDICATE THAT THE LIFE OF THEIR AIRBAG EQUIPMENT IS BETWEEN 10-15 YEARS. MERCEDES-BENZ ORIGINALLY STATED THE AIRBAG SHOULD BE REPLACED DURING NORMAL SERVICE AT THE CUSTOMER?S COST AFTER FIFTEEN YEARS BUT BOTH MERCEDES-BENZ AND AUDI NOW SAY THE UNITS SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE AND INFINITI IS UNWILLING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AFTER ONLY 6 YEARS. *TR

2002 INFINITY G20 PURCHASED BRAND NEW- 5/0. DRIVEN VERY INFREQUENTLY. SINCE 9/02 EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS W/ CAR PULLING TO ONE SIDE ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. DEALER CLAIMED 3 RIMS WERE BENT THE FIRST INCIDENT AND 2 BENT THE SECOND INSTANCE. SEEM HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT A LUXURY CAR RIMS CAN BE BENT WITH SUCH LIMITED YET EXTREMELY CAREFUL DRIVING. DEALER GAVE NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. *NLM

I RECEIVED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE THAT INDICATED A EVAP SYSTEM LEAK. THEN I NOTICED THE SMELL OF FUEL AFTER FILLING UP AND A PUDDLE ON THE GROUND. EXAMINED FUEL FILLER PIPE AND FUEL TANK AND DISCOVERED THE FILLER PIPE NEAR THE FUEL TANK IS CORRODED AND LEAKING FUEL. I COULD NOT DETERMINE THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE LEAK.

POWER TRAINJan 2008

I HAD THE BRAKES APPLIED ON MY CAR, AND PUT IT IN REVERSE IN ORDER TO CORRECTLY POSITION THE CAR IN A PARKING SPACE. WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKES, BECAUSE I WAS ONLY MOVING THE CAR A FEW FEET, THE TACHOMETER TOOK OFF LIKE CRAZY, THE ENGINE REVED UP AND THE CAR STARTING INCHING BACKWARDS EVEN THOUGH I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES. I ALMOST WAS GOING TO HIT THE PARKED CAR IN BACK OF ME SO I SLAMMED THE (AUTOMATI) GEAR INTO PARK. ONLY THEN DID THE ENGINE STOP REVVING AND THE CAR STOP. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND CAME IN TO WORK AND TRIED TO CALM DOWN BECAUSE I WAS VERY FRIGHTENED. THIS ALSO HAPPENED TWO WEEKS AGO, WHILE I WAS IN DRIVE, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING AND MOVING FORWARD. AT THE TIME, I THOUGHT THIS WAS BECAUSE I MAY HAVE BEEN ON BLACK ICE.*CN

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLINGJul 2003

SULPHER SMELL INSIDE CAR: THE DEALER TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT. EVENTUALLY THE SMELL WENT AWAY BY ITSELF, OR WHAT EVER SMELLED LIKE SULPHUR WHILE IT WAS BURNING FINALLY BURNT UP.*AK HERE IS A LIST OF OTHER REPAIRS THE DEALER HAS MADE: NEW ALTINATOR NEW WEATHER STRIPING ON DRIVER SIDE DOOR-NOW ITS COMING OFF AGAIN NEW REGULATOR FOR WINDOW ON DRIVER SIDE DOOR NEW MOTOR MOUNTS NEW LINKAGE UNDER FOR THE TRANSMISSION- COULDN'T REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION UNLESS THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS BEING PUSHED FORWARD AT THE SAME TIME. NEW POCKET FOR THE BACK OF THE PASSENGER SEAT ENGINE NOISE OR RATTLE- INSTALLED BOLTS SOMEWHERE AROUND THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE MANUFACTUR RAN OUT OF THOSE BOLTS DURING ASSEMBLY, AND THINKING THEY WERE NOT NESSISARY, SOLD MY CAR AS WELL AS OTHERS WITHOUT THOSE BOLTS. REPLACED THE BOLTS FOR THE HEAT SHIELD OR THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. AFTER MORE THAN SIX TRIPS BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY PUT A NEW AC COMPRESSOR ON THAT QUIETED THE NOISE FOR A FEW DAYS, BUT THE NOISE IS BACK. I HAVE SINCE QUIT DRIVING THIS CAR UNTIL I FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO. THE INCIDENT DATE IS NOT ACCURATE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE ANY OF THE REPAIR ORDERS INFRONT OF ME.

These pages show model-year patterns across 3 years. Enter a VIN to verify the exact vehicle's accident history, title brands, odometer records, and open recall status before purchase.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations โ€” hereโ€™s what each number actually tells you about a used Infiniti G20, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is โ€” but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Infiniti G20 has 24 complaints on record across 3 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Infiniti G20 has 0 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 3 of the Infiniti G20's 24 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions โ€” a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Good) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable โ€” simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Infiniti G20 vehicles on the road โ€” not any specific car. Two Infiniti G20 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage โ€” NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Infiniti G20 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
