CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR 2 YEARS. I'VE REPAIRED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING POSSIBLE THAT COMES UP ON THE CODE READER AND NOTHING KEEPS THE ENGINE LIGHT OFF. I'VE GONE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS AND THEY CANNOT EVERY GUARANTEE THEIR WORK WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER MECHANIC HAS REPAIRED AIR FLOW SENSORS, ETC. AND HE KEEPS TELLING ME IT'S A COMPUTER UPDATE THAT'S NEEDED TO FIX THE LIGHT - NOT THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR.

PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. BROUGHT TO DEALER WHO ADVISED SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. REPLACED AT $593.14 BEFORE TAX ON 3-22-18. ON 4-27-18, LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND RETURNED TO DEALER WHO ADVISED ENTIRE BOTTOM OF PASSENGER SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ADDITIONAL COST BEFORE TAX WAS $2,201.21. ADVISED PROBLEM WAS THAT THE AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. SPECIFICALLY, THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON EACH TIME THE CAR WAS STARTED. HAVE RETAINED ALL RECORDS AND INVOICES. VEHICLE NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT AND NOTHING HAPPENED TO THE PASSENGER SEAT TO CAUSE A PROBLEM.

THE CONSUMER WENT BACK OUTSIDE STOOD BY THE VEHICLE, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT POPPED OUT OF PARK AND STARTED ROLLING DOWN THE HILL. THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO CATCH UP WITH THE VEHICLE, OPENED THE DOOR AND PUT HER FOOT ON THE PARKING BRAKE, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THREE DAYS LATER, THE CONSUMER PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE DRIVEWAY, WHICH HAD A GRADUAL SLOPE AND SHE APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. WHEN THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE 45 MINUTES LATER, SHE WAS SHOCKED TO SEE, THE VEHICLE HAD ROLLED AND WAS WEDGED AGAINST THE DIVIDER BETWEEN TWO GARAGE DOORS. THE FENDER WAS DENTED AT THE BACKUP SENSOR. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR A WEEK, ONLY TO BE TOLD, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. A CONSUMER AFFAIRS REP FROM INFINITI INDICATED THE ROLL HAS BEEN REPRODUCED MANY TIMES. SHE STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, THE BRAKE MECHANISM ENGAGED THE LEFT REAR WHEEL ONLY. IF THERE WAS A SLIGHT SLIPPAGE, SUCH AS, A SNOW COVERED DRIVEWAY, THE TIRE WOULD SLIP AND THE BRAKES WOULD RELEASE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL. *JB

THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING IN THE DASHBOARD NEXT TO THE SPEEDOMETER KEPT FLASHING WHILE STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING WHETHER OR NOT A PERSON WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OR NOT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TWICE TO BE FIXED (WHILE UNDER WARRANTY), BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED SPORADICALLY. I TOOK IT A 3RD TIME (NOW WARRANTY EXPIRED), THEY RESEARCHED DEEPER AND SAID THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE OCS SENSOR INSIDE OF THE SEAT, SO THE SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. $5000 CHARGE, MOTORWERKS OF BARRINGTON, IL. I HAVE NOT HAD IT FIXED YET. I FOUND THE SAME PASSENGER SIDE SENSOR WAS RECALLED IN NOVEMBER 2008, THE END OF THE YEAR PRIOR TO 2009 WHEN MY CAR WAS BUILT. IT APPEARS THE SAME PROBLEM WAS CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT YEAR (2009) BUT NO RECALL ISSUED. AND THEN DEALERSHIP MISSED THE PROBLEM WHILE UNDER WARRANTY (AND EXTENDED WARRANTY).

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGSMay 2018

I TOOK THE CAR TO JIM COLEMAN INFINITI SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO FIND OUT WHY THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS FLASHING NON-STOP. AFTER THE DIAGNOSTIC THEY CONCLUDED IT WAS DUE TO PASSENGER SIDE OCS SENSOR FAULTY, SO IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE SENSOR THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SEAT DUE TO SENSOR EMBEDDED IN THE SEAT AND ASKING FOR AROUND $4500 FOR PARTS AND $600 FOR LABOR. IT'S OUTRAGEOUS! ALTHOUGH I BOUGHT THE CAR AT 2009 I HARDLY DRIVE THE CAR AND TOOK METRO TO WORK MOST OF THE TIME SO THE MILEAGE IS ONLY <50K. AFTER I DID A RESEARCH ON THE WEB I DISCOVERED THAT THE 2007, 2008 INFINITI EX35 MODEL ALL HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM THAT RESULTED A RECALL. PER NHTSA, A SENSOR LOCATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION "MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, THIS COULD CAUSE AN INTERRUPTION OF SIGNAL BETWEEN THE OCS [THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM -- WHICH ACTIVATES THE AIRBAG WHEN THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED] AND THE AIRBAG CONTROL UNIT. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE PASSENGER AIRBAG BEING SUPPRESSED, WHICH COULD FAIL TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTION IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH." IT APPEARS THAT INFINITI DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM FOR THE 2009 MODEL WHICH WAS PROBABLY ALREADY ON THE SALES LOT AND AS LONG AS THERE'S NO WARNING LIGHT FLASHING THEY ASSUME NO SENSOR PROBLEM BUT THE UNDERLYING SENSOR DEFECT STILL EXIST AND WAITING TO ERUPT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR INFINITI'S OBVIOUS DESIGN/MANUFACTURED SENSOR DEFECT ESPECIALLY IT IS THE WELL-KNOWN SENSOR DEFECT THAT CAUSE THEIR 2008 RECALL (HTTPS://CARS.USNEWS.COM/CARS-TRUCKS/DAILY-NEWS/081016-URGENT-RECALL-ALERT-NISSAN-INFINITI-RECALLING-200-000-VEHICLES-FOR-AIRBAG-DEFECT). PLEASE ADVISE WHAT I CAN DO TO MAKE INFINITI TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THE SAME DEFECT FROM THE 2008 RECALL AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER DECEIVED BY THEM? THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHERFeb 2018

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HOLMAN INFINITI (577 NJ-38, MAPLE SHADE TOWNSHIP, NJ 08062) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING LOCK BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 INFINITI EX35. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND PLACED THE GEAR IN REVERSE, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.

TIRES,WHEELSJun 2014

I HAD A TIRE BLOWOUT ON THE LEFT REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER MOUNTING THE SPARE I INSPECTED THE BLOWN OUT TIRE AND COULD NOT FIND A CAUSE FOR THE TIRE TO FAIL. UPON PUTTING THE DAMAGED WHEEL/TIRE IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL OF THE CAR I NOTICED THAT THE WHEEL VALVE STEM WAS MISSING AND HEARD SOMETHING ROLLING AROUND INSIDE THE TIRE. IT WAS THE (TPMS) VALVE STEM. I THEN INSPECTED THE OTHER THREE WHEELS/TIRES AND FOUND THAT THE VALVE STEMS ARE HELD IN PLACE BY A LOCKING NUT/SLEEVE THAT WAS FAILING DO TO CORROSION. THE NUT/SLEEVE IS ALUMINUM AND THE CORROSION IS CAUSING THEM TO CRACK LENGTHWISE AND DETACH FROM THE VALVE STEM. THREE OF THE FOUR ARE CRACKED AND ONE IS ONLY HELD IN BY HALF OF THE NUT/SLEEVE! INFINITY WANTS ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO AN INFINITY DEALER AND HAVE IT "DIAGNOSED" AND THEN PUT TO AN INFINITY "COMMITTEE" TO SEE IF MAYBE THEY WILL REPLACE AND REPAIR THE FAULTY PARTS, BUT NO GUARANTEE THAT WOULD HAPPEN. THE NEAREST INFINITY FACILITY IS ABOUT 90 MI. FROM MY LOCATION. THEY SAY THAT IT'S MY PROBLEM TO GET IT THERE. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS CAR IN THE CONDITION IT IS IN! LUCKILY, I WAS ON A LOCAL ROAD AND DOING ABOUT 45 MPH WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED! AND THE FACT THAT IT WAS A REAR WHEEL/TIRE! I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND MULTIPLE SITES ON HOW THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH INFINITY CARS WITH THIS TYPE OF (TPMS) VALVE STEM. THEY EVEN HAVE A VOLUNTARY RECALL ON SOME MODELS, BUT NOT MINE. THEY ARE ONE IN THE SAME. I FIND THIS AS BIG A SAFETY ISSUE AS GM'S IGNITION KEY PROBLEM! *TR

AIR BAGSNov 2009

I PURCHASED 2009 INFINITI EX 35 ONE MONTH AGO(SEPTEMBER 30, 2009). THERE IS A "PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG OFF" LIGHT. ACCORDING TO INFINITI SERVICE CENTER NEARBY, IT IS DESIGNED TO DETECT CHILD OR SMALL ADULT WHO IS LESS THAN 100 POUNDS SEATING ON PASSENGER SIDE AND PREVENT PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG FROM DEPLOYING IN ACCIDENT. THEY SAID FOR CHILDREN OR SMALL ADULT LESS THAN 100 POUNDS, IT IS BETTER TO HAVE NO AIRBAG ON CRASH BECAUSE IT WILL CAUSE MORE HARM THAN GOOD. HERE IS THE PROBLEM. MY WIFE IS 130 POUNDS, 5.80 FT TALL (NOT A SMALL ADULT OR CHILDREN SIZE). WHEN SHE SITS IN PASSENGER SIDE, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG OFF" LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF AND ON AND OFF DURING A SINGLE TRIP. THE SERVICE MANAGER IS SAYING THAT BECAUSE SHE IS IN BORDER LINE OF WEIGHT LIMIT, IF SHE MOVES WHILE SEATING, IT CAN HAPPEN. MY WIFE AND I CLOSELY OBSERVED THE LIGHT AND THE LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF EVEN THOUGH SHE IS SEATING STILL PERFECTLY(NOT MOVING AT ALL). THE SERVICE CENTER CHECKED THE SENSOR OF PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AND TOLD ME THAT IT IS WORKING PROPERLY. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND SIMILAR PROBLEMS TO OTHER CUSTOMERS. ALSO THERE WAS 200,000 CARS RECALLED ON OCTOBER 2008 FOR 2008 INFINITI EX35 AND OTHER MODELS DUE TO SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I ASKED IF MY 2009 WAS IN RECALL BUT THEY SAID NO. I FOUND OUT THAT FOR 2010 INFINITI EX35 MODEL, THEY ADDED "PASSENGER AIR BAG ON/OFF SWITCH" BECAUSE OF CASES LIKE MINE. WHAT CAN I DO? IS IT POSSIBLE TO RETURN MY CAR BECAUSE IT'S BEEN ONLY ONE MONTH? OR EXCHANGE MY CAR TO 2010 MODEL? PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT I CAN DO. MY WIFE AND I ARE VERY CONCERNED WHEN WE ARE ON FREEWAY, DRIVING MORE THAN 65 MPH AND THE "PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG OFF" LIGHT TURNS ON INDICATING THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY DURING CRASH. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND SUPPORT. *TR

AIR BAGSSep 2023

Front passenger airbag occupancy sensor fails leading to inactivation of front passenger airbag. Dealership says that a repair solution is not available.

UNKNOWN OR OTHERDec 2022

My drivers side door lock actuator does not allow the drivers door to be opened if its below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. We just got a bomb cyclone bringing snow and for the second winter in a row (new actuator installed last winter for same complaint) my actuator has failed. I di not know what is going on with infiniti’s parts but every person i know who has newer infiniti has to get their actuator changed every year because the car locks them inside. If there were to be a crash or a fire or some type of emergency, I…along with every infiniti owner would have to attempt to escape their car through another door or risk death.

UNKNOWN OR OTHERMay 2022

The door lock actuators fail to work for the doors both inside and outside if the temperature gets below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. (Also within this weather, my outer door handle which is physically attached to said actuator) has broken off. I've repaired one actuator with an aftermarket one but the drivers door actuator is only made by Infiniti. The cost of the part alone is $800 the labor is another $300. The risk is that in the case of a crash, engine fire, and/or severe mechanical failure, I will be unable to exit my vehicle and will subsequently die should such an situation occur. I've spoken to several mechanics that tell me it's quite common with Nissans and infiniti's. I've seen on dozens of forums that they believe there should be a recall on this since it's been happening for 20+years and isn't covered under warranty due to being a wear and tear part.

POWER TRAINDec 2021

The contact owns a 2011 Infiniti M56. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V755000 (Power Train) however, the dealer informed the contact that the parts for the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated that while making a left turn from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle drove 2 MPH and stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that as he released the accelerator pedal and depressed it again, he was able to drive the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and advised the contact that they would follow up with the dealer. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

I love this vehicle but it's suddenly started having a rough idle and with a scan tool detects multiple misfires and several codes due to timing, in which case the timing chain has been worn out call the dealership to see if the timing chain recall for the m56 was done to my car they said it was VIN specific now I am stuck with a vehicle that is very dangerous to be driven.

POWER TRAINOct 2021

Driveshaft malfunctioning. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Driveshaft malfunctioning is causing the vehicle to shake violently at speeds above 60 mph. My safety and others safety is put at risk when I'm accelerating above 60 mph and the vehicle begins to shake violently causing the vehicle to veering into on coming traffic or nearby lanes. This problem has been reproduced and confirmed by an independent service center. The vehicle hasn't been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. This problem first appeared about 4 years ago but progressively gotten worse. In December 13, 2020 β€” An Infiniti driveshaft recall includes more than 2,700 vehicles with driveshafts that may break. The recalled vehicles include 2011-2013 Infiniti M56, 2012-2013 M35 Hybrid, 2014 Q70 and 2014 Infiniti Q70 Hybrid vehicles. Unfortunately, my vehicle wasn't included in this recall and it yet should.

The basics

How to read this data

Complaints, recalls, investigations β€” here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Infiniti EX35, in plain English.

01

What is an NHTSA Complaint?

An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is β€” but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Infiniti EX35 has 92 complaints on record across 6 model years.

02

What is a Safety Recall?

A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Infiniti EX35 has 6 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.

03

What Are Crash Complaints?

Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 6 of the Infiniti EX35's 92 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions β€” a key safety signal beyond general reliability.

04

How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?

The reliability verdict (Below Average) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.

05

Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?

Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable β€” simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.

06

Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN

Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Infiniti EX35 vehicles on the road β€” not any specific car. Two Infiniti EX35 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.

07

What Are NHTSA Investigations?

When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage β€” NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Infiniti EX35 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
