The picture
Is the BMW 760I or Toyota Camry more reliable?
A plain-English read on what the NHTSA record says about living with each vehicle.
BMW 760I
The BMW 760I is a flagship luxury sedan with a complex electrical and drivetrain system. Over six years, it has zero owner complaints on file, but 18 recalls covering driver monitoring cameras, stability control, door latches, and the automatic transmission. The lack of complaints may reflect low sales volume or that issues are addressed through recalls rather than owner reports. For a used buyer, this means the main reliability concern is potential electronic and mechanical faults that could be expensive to fix.
Toyota Camry
The Toyota Camry is a mainstream family sedan with a high volume of owner complaints: 2,056 over ten years, averaging about 206 per year. The most common problem areas are the power train, engine, brakes, and electrical system, with reports of stuck ignition keys, hesitation, and brake noise. There are also 171 crash-related complaints and 158 injuries reported, indicating some issues may affect safety. Recalls cover wheels, seats, and air bag sensors.

What actually goes wrong
The problems owners report
The most-complained-about systems on each vehicle — what fails, and what owners say in their own words.
BMW 760I
No component data available.
Recalls exist for driver monitoring camera/sensor issues, which could affect advanced driver assistance features. A buyer should verify these systems work and that recall repairs were completed.
A recall for ESC means the system may not function as intended in some conditions. This is a safety-critical system, so confirm the recall remedy was applied.
Two separate recalls for door latches suggest doors may not latch securely, posing a risk of opening while driving. Inspect all doors for proper operation and recall completion.
A power train recall for the automatic transmission indicates potential shifting or failure issues. A pre-purchase inspection should include a transmission check and recall verification.

Owners report intermittent ignition key stuck in Park, requiring battery disconnect, and hesitation/shuddering with check engine light. These can leave you stranded or cause costly repairs.
Complaints include delayed throttle response when accelerating from a stop, which could be a safety risk in traffic. The issue may recur and require dealer diagnosis.
Reports of electronic parking brake failing to disengage (requiring a tow) and clicking/vibrating noises from the ABS system. Brake problems are safety-critical and should be inspected.
Multiple system malfunctions (stability control, power steering, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping) have been reported, sometimes all at once. This suggests electrical gremlins that can be hard to diagnose.
