Crash test ratings
NHTSA NCAP crash test ratings
New Car Assessment ProgramNCAP crash tests measure how well a vehicle protects occupants in controlled frontal crash, side crash, and rollover scenarios. Stars are awarded per category (5 = safest). These laboratory results are independent of owner complaints and are performed by NHTSA engineers on new production vehicles.
NCAP crash test ratings for this model are not yet loaded or this vehicle was not tested in the years analyzed. NHTSA tests a subset of new vehicles each year. Check nhtsa.gov/ratings directly for the latest results.

I got into a car accident in 08/28/25 @8:30pm and on impact I was going about 50-55mph and not a single one of my air bags came out. I also know that there are no recalls on my vehicle for air bags.
Just had this problem on my 2019 Chrysler 300. Recall came years after I had it and after I sold it. I got lucky and found out and got a reimbursement for the repair. Recall issued for "faulty Diode on Alternator". Very dangerous b/c the car will just cut out on you when you are trying to accelerate... like crossing a road etc. My 2019 I didn't have long enough to see if it was an issue but now my 2023 Chrysler 300 is doing the same thing. Would not surprise me if it's the same faulty parts for every model. When you accelerate it just putters and loses power. My 2019 I got reimbursed on it had white smoke and ended up burning out another $1000 of electronics that I did NOT get reimbursed for. It's one of those things Idk if they can detect it until it breaks or not.
The contact owned a 2022 Chrysler 300S. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, she hit another vehicle that attempted to merge into another lane of traffic. The air bags did not deploy upon impact; as a result, the contact hit her face on the steering wheel. The contact was taken to the hospital where she was treated for the pain in her back, face, and both shoulders. A police report was filed. The contact's vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it remained in their possession. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The contact deemed the vehicle as a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
VIN 2C3CCADG6NH167925 decodes as an 8-cylinder engine vehicle. This vehicle has a 6-cylinder 3.6L V6 engine.
I am concerned that a possible safety issue, such as brake failure, with the brake system has gone unrepaired for the past two months. Issues: 1. There is an obvious safety problem with the brakes. 2. The dealer, Chrysler/FCA/Stellantis are not able to repair this problem. The vehicle is available for inspection anytime. We purchased this vehicle brand new on March 31, 2022. The brakes shudder every time upon application especially when going down hill or during a deceleration from high speed. It becomes worse as the brakes heat up. This problem may have always been there but has become worse. The manufacturer's dealer (we bought the auto from this dealer) reproduced the shuddering on September 7, 2022. The service writer stated that brake rotors would be replaced under warranty. Two months later, both the dealer and Chrysler Customer Care claim that the rotors are not available. No date for availability was stated despite my many requests. I am concerned this serious problem can lead to a major accident and has not/cannot be repaired by the manufacturer.
The brake rotors on my 2023 Chrysler 300C failed prematurely at 25,000 miles. The vehicle is equipped with a factory-installed Brembo four-piston high-performance brake system. The failure presented as brake pedal pulsation and vibration during normal stopping, consistent with warped rotors, which reduces braking effectiveness and control and poses a risk in any situation requiring emergency braking. No warning lamps or messages appeared prior to the failure. The issue was confirmed by my authorized Chrysler dealership, however warranty coverage was denied and the failure was classified as wear and tear. This complaint is consistent with NHTSA Complaint ID Number 11661039, filed May 14, 2025, which documents an identical failure on a Chrysler 300 equipped with the same factory Brembo brake system, with rotor warping reported at just 5,260 miles under normal driving conditions. That complaint similarly attributes the failure to excessive heat generated by the Brembo calipers causing premature rotor warping, suggesting this may be a broader issue with the Brembo brake configuration on this vehicle platform
My rotors warped with 5,260 miles and dealership would not cover the issue stating it is wear and tear. The brembo brake calipers are large and creates to much heat and causes the rotors to overheat and warp.
I was backing out of my friend's driveway and hit a pole. My sensors did not beep at me indicating that there was something behind me. I realize I should have paid more attention but the sensors should have warned me.
My son was in a car accident where he was cut off but able to come to a stop and then he was rear ended which cause his car to hit the car in front of him. His head hit the steering wheel and knocked him unconscious briefly. The airbags did not deploy and there is now a notification to service airbag system. Police report is not yet available.
I purchased the Chrysler 300 touring of May 23, 2023. This was suppose to be brand new. After, a week, the car was having issues in the steering and I had too report the car dealership because they were giving me a hard time but finally, after, reaching out to corporate, the car dealership, fixed the steering and added an addition warranty. Now, there’s something going on with the tire pressure. The tire pressure for this car shouldn’t be at 28,29,30 and 31. So, now, every time, I have a local tire place to check the tire pressure, the air continuously lose pressure. So, today on Dec 12, 2024, in order to stop, my brakes went all the way down to the floor and that’s not normal. So, there’s something wrong with the brake lines. I’ve been having issues with this supposedly be brand new car since purchase. The week after purchasing this car, because of the steering before it was fixed, I almost got into a car accident. This car really, really scares me.
The contact owns a 2023 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware that the passenger’s side fender was not installed properly. The contact was constantly snapping the fender back into place. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Drivers airbag bursted when I wasn’t in my car, and the passenger airbag has a hole in it.
The contact owned a 2020 Chrysler 300 AWD. The contact stated while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed on the highway and attempting to merge onto the right lane, another vehicle suddenly drove in front of his vehicle. The contact stated that her husband attempted to readjust the vehicle onto the left lane; however, the front driver's side of the vehicle hit the guard rail. The vehicle rolled over 2-3 times and the front driver's side door of the vehicle bent open, causing the contact's husband to fly out of the vehicle and land on the train tracks. The contact stated that bystanders immediately pulled her husband from the train tracks as the train was coming. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact's husband was unconscious. The emergency units resuscitated the contact's husband three times at the scene; however, the contact's husband remained partly unconscious. The emergency unit transported the contact's husband to the hospital, and he remained in the ICU for 3 days. The contact stated that her husband sustained bruises all over the body. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not inspect the vehicle because the vehicle insurance company had already inspected the vehicle. No assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was unavailable.
The vehicle's LCD screen has become delaminated which causes the control of the radio, air conditioning, navigation, and other features controlled by the "radio" portion of the car to become dysfunctional. The car will randomly beep, change air temperatures, start navigation, cause the loss of hands-free communication. This is a safety hazard as it causes the driver to be distracted in order to attend to the incessant beeping and issues related to AC/heat, navigation or radio (volume, etc.). This appears from Chrysler Forums to be an issue among a large group of Chrysler 300 Year Model 2018-2020 owners. I am encouraging them to file a concern with your group and to ask for a recall of the car for this reason.
March 24th 2023 @ 1:58 pm I was sitting at a red light behind another car, when I was rear ended @ 40+ mph and pushed in to the car ahead of me. The air bags never deployed after colliding with the car in front of me causing my head to hit the steering wheel and the roof of my car. I was unconscious for 30 seconds. Pictures available upon request.
Panoramic sunroof glass exploded.
On March 1 2022 at 23,800 miles on odometer driving around curve the transmission shifter knob at console made grinding sound (like trying to change gears on moving cog). I made appiontment for repair 6 weeks later (as soon as he could) also stating parts are sometimes months away. I had never used the auto park feature on this car, it is on all Chrysler cars for drivers that get out with car running and don't put in park? I paid 40,000 dollars for a car that I'm expected to wait approx 6 monthes for repair under warranty one year old! I took to independant shop and was advised junk yard parts was available but would void warrany and still could be computer causing not the gear mechanics. I sold this car at a 11,000 dollar loss. The basics
Understanding this data
What is an NHTSA Complaint?
An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Chrysler 300 has 333 complaints on record across 10 model years.
What is a Safety Recall?
A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Chrysler 300 has 15 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.
What Are Crash Complaints?
Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 19 of the Chrysler 300's 333 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.
How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?
The reliability verdict (Poor) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.
Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?
Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.
Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN
Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Chrysler 300 vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Chrysler 300 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.
What Are NHTSA Investigations?
When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Chrysler 300 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
