BMW 540I
The BMW 540I is a luxury sedan with a relatively low complaint rate—about 2.5 per year over a decade—but owners report recurring electrical and seat-related faults that can be expensive. Complaints often involve brake issues that trigger stop-sale recalls, airbag warning lights tied to passenger seat sensors, and electrical gremlins like melted headlight connectors. While there are no reported injuries or deaths in the data, the pattern suggests that when problems occur, they often involve safety systems and can be costly to fix.
FORD F 150
The Ford F-150 is a full-size pickup with a very high complaint volume—over 1,100 per year—and a large number of recalls. Owners frequently report transmission problems, including limp mode and harsh shifting, as well as electrical issues like lead frame failures that can cause sudden downshifts. There are also reports of rear window defroster shorts leading to shattered glass. The data shows 330 crash-related complaints and 297 injuries, indicating that some issues may have serious consequences.
