2026 GV70, rattle onset at exactly 50 mph. Aero-induced (not road-surface dependent) Local dealer service department confirmed the same rattle on two other 2026 GV70s on the lot.
The driver‑side display on my 2026 Genesis GV70 randomly goes black or becomes distorted. This defect is included in Recall No. 26V019. Despite this, Genesis Consumer Affairs and the dealership (Homestead Hyundai/Genesis) refuse to perform the required software update that corrects the issue, claiming the vehicle is “already updated” — a statement that directly contradicts the official Genesis documentation, which I personally obtained. Instead of applying the required software upgrade, the dealership replaced the monitor. The replacement failed in the exact same way, proving the issue is not hardware‑related. When the driver‑side display goes black, I lose critical driving information, creating a clear safety concern. They refuse to update software.
I leased a 2026 Electric GV70 from Genesis in June 2025. In January of 2026, when driving the car I got a warning sign to stop the vehicle and check the battery supply. At that point, the car went into sever power reduction and would only go 20 MPH or so. After 20-30 minutes, the car completely shut down and became inoperable. Luckily, I was near home and was able to get my car home. I had to have the vehicle towed on wheels as it was completely frozen to the dealership. They diagnosed it as a failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). They replaced the ICCU but identified other issues that to this day are unresolved and my car is still in the shop. These cars were subject to a recall for ICCU failure but only to model year 2025. These ICCUs are continuing to fail on the 2026 models, and at an alarming rate. The head of service at the dealership told me they were dealing with "hundreds" of ICCU failures on Hyundai/Genesis vehicles. If I had been on a highway traveling at higher speeds and the car suddenly lost almost all power and would only drive for another few miles before completely shutting down, it would have created a dangerous situation. These cars need to be recalled - again. Hyundai/Genesis clearly dont know how to make electric cars/battery packs that work and should be held accountable. I believe they are downplaying this situation due to the prior recalls/class action lawsuits and dont want to experience further reputational damage.
When stopped at a stoplight with my foot on the brake and the transmission in drive (D), after 15-30 seconds, the transmission shifts into park and the engine starts. (the autostart was in the default position). This has occurred repeatedly. The the autostart button is pressed and the light is on, the transmission reacts normally. I have a video but it is larger than 10MB
Hyundai/Genesis 2026 GV70 2.5T Advanced. Drivers side instrument cluster goes blank/black, dangerous. Contacted Genesis Customer Care, doesn't know how to fix my model/trim. Representative, hung up on me. Dealer: Homestead Hyundai/Genesis doesn't have tools to fix the problem..
Without any warning, on March 15, 2026, I turned out of a parking lot onto a major road and I noticed it wouldn't accelerate above 20 mph, so I pulled off the road. I tried again and my vehicle still failed to accelerate. And on my third attempt, my vehicle decelerated and was about to completely stall. I managed to turn into a parking lot and avoid getting rear ended. However, this could have been a fatal event. While I was trying to accelerate, the vehicle was quiet as if the car wasn't even running. After shutting the engine off for awhile, I was able to drive the vehicle with caution. I reached out to two Genesis service departments regarding my vehicle failing to accelerate while driving and neither had heard any previous complaints, and the earliest appointment would be mid April. There was no sense of urgency, as I'm left to hesitantly drive my vehicle at the risk of it happening again and getting rear ended. And when my vehicle does go in for service, I'm weary whether the problem will be resolved properly since the service department is unaware of the issue. In addition, I have had this vehicle for only 4 months and 1 month into it, I already took it to service because of fuel odor that had not gone away since the day 1. But the service department didn't find anything wrong with the vehicle, so nothing was done to it. I also swung by another Genesis service department, in case they happened to be familiar with the cause of the odor. My vehicle still has the fuel odor and now I'm wondering if that is related to my vehicle not accelerating. I am seeking your assistance to ensure that the problems with my vehicle are confidently resolved. And I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else. I am thankful, I was driving and not my teen.
Got a "power limited, check electrical system" warning when starting the car. Towed it to the dealership and they told me the ICCU failed and it needs to be replaced. It has been over 5 weeks and still waiting for the part to be back in stock.
I have not had no incident yet but my 2026 Genesis GV70 3.5 UNINTENDED ACCELERATION BY ITSELF. WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE ACCELERATE BY ITSELF. WHILE COASTING THE VEHCLE ACCELERATE, i ALMOST HIT THE GARAGE DOOR. A recall should be called on all 26 model GV SERIES. This should be looked at before someone gets injured. The contact owns a 2026 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35-40 MPH after charging the vehicle, an unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle automatically called Genesis Connected Services, which advised the contact to tow the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The Mobile App displayed Diagnostic Trouble Codes: P1AA700 and P1AAF00 for the electric battery management system. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the battery management system needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the repair was pending approval. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,889.
Tried to start the car and got a several warnings of "turn off vehicle and check EV system" and "power limited". This is similar to the ICCU failure issue other people have reported.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Office of Defects Investigation 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE Washington, DC 20590 Subject: Safety Defect Complaint – Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) Failure Vehicle: 2026 Genesis GV70 Electrified (EV) VIN: [XXX] To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint to report a safety-related failure involving my 2026 Genesis Electrified GV70, which experienced a sudden “Check Electric Vehicle System” warning consistent with a failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). Incident Summary On February 5, 2026, at approximately 4,480 miles, the vehicle displayed a “Check Electric Vehicle System” alert and was no longer safe to operate. Due to the risk of propulsion loss and electrical system malfunction, the vehicle required flatbed towing to an authorized Genesis dealership for evaluation. A dealership service advisor subsequently informed me that the vehicle has been diagnosed with an ICCU failure, a component responsible for charging the 12-volt battery and maintaining critical electrical systems. Failure of this component can result in loss of drivability, propulsion limitations, or vehicle shutdown, creating a significant roadway safety hazard. Safety Concern Failures of the ICCU have been widely reported across Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis electric vehicles and have been the subject of prior recalls due to the potential for unexpected loss of motive power while driving. Despite prior recall actions, failures continue to occur, including in my vehicle. Current Status The vehicle remains out of service pending repair, and no written repair completion timeline has been provided. The failure rendered the vehicle unusable and required emergency towing. I respectfully request that the Office of Defects Investigation review continuing ICCU failures affecting Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia electric vehicles to determine whether additional corrective action or expanded remedies INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On [XXX], the vehicle was started and there were no brakes, the pedal went down to the floor. The car was turned off, restarted and again there were no brakes. The third time the car was restarted, the pedal went to the floor and then the brake pedal came back up with pressure in the brake lines. The vehicle displayed the warning "check brake system". The car was not driven. The next day, [XXX], a wrecker arrived to tow the car to Bergstrom Genesis, the car was started and again had no brakes. We were told that it was software problem and were given the vehicle back on 12/10/25. On [XXX], while driving the vehicle, the "check engine" light was displayed. The vehicle was picked up by Bergstrom Genesis and the dealership has had the vehicle since 12/11/25 to make sure the brakes don't fail again INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The Instrument Cluster Screen went blank (OFF) while driving 65mph on the freeway. The vehicle mechanically kept functioning. I had no gages. The system began to reboot within a few seconds as I was attempting to pull over to the shoulder of the freeway. My vehicle continued to function normally so I drove home. My wife was very startled and shaken. This happened again so I took vehicle to the dealership service dept. where they performed a diagnostic test finding “ technical glitches” as I was told. They ordered a new screen. I drove off with my car until a new screen arrived two weeks later. The screen again went blank on the city streets a day or so before the new screen arrived. I only drove my car as necessary while my wife refused to do so and never had other passengers. I surrendered my car for repairs on Nov.14, 2025 and have not retrieved my car as of today, Jan.7,2026. I became aware during the many repair delays that the dealership was negligent in allowing me to drive off in an unsafe vehicle. They should have provided a loaner until the repairs were completed. I am currently addressing these issues with Genesis Customer Care as a special case team has agreed that my car is now a “Lemon” under Nevada Revised Statutes. We are in negotiations under repurchase. My vehicle also had the two front seat belts replaced for malfunctions on Oct. 7,2025. This was my second GV 70 that I purchased new on May 2022.
The contact owns a 2026 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument cluster displayed a black screen. The contact stated that the instrument cluster independently restarted. The contact stated that the instrument cluster rebooted like a computer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a failed control unit. The contact stated that an unknown software update was performed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that two days later, the failure reoccurred. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The dealer informed the contact that there were five similar vehicles with similar failures. The contact stated that the failure began two days after the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer twice; however, the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 2,500.
While driving on the highway, the car shut down with no warning messages and gas fumes filled the interior of the car. I was not able to move over to a completely safe spot on the road because the car shut down so quickly. I was not able to put the windows down as there was no power to the car and unable to exit the car because I was not in a safe spot on the highway. I had to remain in the closed car inhaling the gas fumes. I called 911 and they had me sit in the sheriffs car until a tow truck came to keep me out of the fumes. The car was towed to the dealership, it had 53 miles on it. This event was extremely dangerous. It is currently at the service department of the dealership for repairs.
I purchased a 2026 Genesis GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige (Certified Pre-Owned) on August 26, 2025, with ~100 miles on the odometer. At around 475 miles, the climate control screen went completely dark, rendering the HVAC and seat heating/cooling systems inaccessible via the center stack. While some touch-sensitive functions remain partially active (e.g., seat heater turned on and could not be turned off; AUTO and SYNC lights blink), no display is visible, making the system unusable. This poses a driver safety hazard—especially in foggy or cold conditions when defrost or rapid cabin adjustments are needed—and causes distraction and discomfort during operation, hot seats in the summer and cannot turn off. The vehicle was dropped off at the dealer (Genesis of Cary, NC) on September 11 and remains out of service awaiting a replacement screen (ETA September 24). I was told this was the first time the dealership had seen this issue. Though covered under warranty, the failure occurred in the first two weeks of ownership resulting in extended downtime. I’ve now driven a loaner longer than my own vehicle. Having evaluated 2023–2026 GV70 models and currently driving a 2024 GV70 loaner with 14,000+ miles, I’ve seen three different cockpit versions. From my background in human-machine interfaces (HMIs), it’s apparent Genesis is rapidly iterating critical driver-facing digital systems—climate, cluster, infotainment—without sufficient real-world stability testing. According to forums, there are systemic quality issues with this brand. This 27” display is no longer just infotainment—it governs key driving functions. Its failure affects safety. NHTSA should monitor this trend to ensure these systems are reliable, redundant, and repairable before analog backups are removed. Consumers are making substantial financial investments in vehicles where essential systems fail within days. This undermines safety, trust, and confidence in a growing number of vehicles on the road.
Windshield cracked for no apparent reason. The weather was extremely hot and the vehicle was in a garage.
When slowly backing up my GV70 from a parking spot, on two occasions the brakes have slammed on. In both instances there were no cars in close proximity behind my vehicle and no hazard or obstacle was present.
The contact owns a 2025 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that while on the highway driving at 55 MPH, the vehicle suddenly stopped. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, but they were unable to determine the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was provided a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was opened, but no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 13,500.
The vehicle has experienced recurring malfunctions involving the electrical system, driver-assistance/safety systems, transmission, braking system, door access sensors, and starting system. Specific issues include sudden braking events, erratic lane assist steering intervention, transmission slipping and gear slamming, intermittent loss of exterior door sensor function, failure of rear hatch access, repeated no-start conditions, dashboard warning messages, and random activation or malfunction of safety sensors. The vehicle and all affected components remain available for inspection upon request. These failures created significant safety risks to myself and others due to unpredictable braking, steering interference, drivability concerns, and the possibility of becoming stranded during interstate travel and adverse weather conditions. Some issues have been reproduced intermittently and documented through dealership service visits, vehicle logs, photographs, videos, and communications with Genesis Consumer Affairs; however, the dealership has indicated that certain conditions were difficult to duplicate consistently, particularly because many failures occur during wet, cold, snowy, or icy weather conditions not present during inspection periods. The vehicle has been inspected by Genesis dealerships, Genesis Consumer Affairs representatives, towing personnel, and is currently involved in a BBB AUTO LINE case. Prior to several failures, warning symptoms included dashboard alerts, abnormal braking sensations, transmission hesitation, intermittent warning lights, service notifications, sensor malfunctions, and inconsistent electrical behavior, which first began appearing at approximately 26,000–30,000 miles and progressively worsened over time.

📖 Understanding This Data
What is an NHTSA Complaint?
An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Genesis GV70 has 196 complaints on record across 5 model years.
What is a Safety Recall?
A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Genesis GV70 has 15 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.
What Are Crash Complaints?
Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 15 of the Genesis GV70's 196 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.
How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?
The reliability verdict (Poor) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.
Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?
Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.
Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN
Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Genesis GV70 vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Genesis GV70 vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.
What Are NHTSA Investigations?
When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Genesis GV70 has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
