I am reporting a severe safety hazard involving my 2019 Chevrolet Camaro. The vehicle has suffered a total failure of its audio amplifier, resulting in a complete loss of all interior audio. This is not a convenience or entertainment issue. Because the amplifier controls all vehicle audio output, the car no longer produces any audible safety warning alerts or chimes. This includes the complete loss of: * Turn signal indicator clicks (leaving the driver unaware if indicators are active) * Seatbelt unfastened reminder alarms * Door/trunk-ajar alerts * Blind-spot monitoring audible alerts * Forward collision warning alerts * Parking assist sensor warnings Operating a vehicle without these critical sensory alerts creates an immediate, active hazard on public roads. The driver cannot hear warnings of imminent collisions, lane departures, or simple indicators like active turn signals. The vehicle was taken to an authorized GM dealership (Jake Sweeney Chevrolet) on July 7, 2026. A diagnostic check confirmed internal amplifier damage. A valid extended warranty claim was approved to replace the part. However, General Motors Executive Customer Service and the dealership parts manager have officially confirmed in writing that this critical safety component has been discontinued. No replacement parts or compatible alternative part numbers exist in stock at any dealership nationwide. General Motors /Jake Sweeney Chevrolet is telling me they are entirely unable to provide a functional safety replacement part for a 7 year-old vehicle, forcing me to operate a vehicle with fundamentally compromised driver-safety systems
The contact owns a Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle on the side of a residential road, she attempted to place the shift knob from Drive into Park. At that moment, the vehicle suddenly jolted and accelerated forward independently. The vehicle proceeded through a red light at approximately 20 MPH. The contact attempted to maneuver the vehicle to avoid colliding with traffic, but the incident concluded when the vehicle crashed into a nearby high school building. The vehicle was going 20 MPH at the time of the crash. The front of the contact vehicle crashed into the building. The property damage was a high school gate. The vehicle's final position ended in a high school gate. The air bags deployed, but the vehicle emblem on the steering wheel caused the consumer to have extensive injuries on her forehead. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. A police report was filed. The contact was the only occupant in the vehicle. The injuries sustained by the occupant were head injuries, broken left wrist, left side of her abdomen was bruised and so were both of her arms. Medical treatment was needed for the injuries including surgery's. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,000.
I've submitted a safety complaint #11733895. I wanted to give an update regarding GM Goodwill Assistance, which is 10% of $10,000 transmission replacement per Chevrolet. This is a known documented transmission defect from GM manufacturing, it is a major safety issue, the car was sold to me with GM/Chevrolet knowing about this issue, but they are putting the financial burden on the consumer. Diagnostic from Chevrolet confirms this defect and they basically are saying they won't help. This transmission should be 100% recalled for safety issues and I am just speechless it has not been. The random acceleration alone is extremely scary and totally unsafe. What do consumers have to do to get this recalled? Have a collision and kill or injure someone or myself? Something needs to be done. GM needs to take accountability and do the right thing RECALL THESE TRANSMISSIONS and fix the ones that need to be fixed.
The vehicle is experiencing a severe and dangerous transmission defect that manifests as intense shuddering and vibrations followed by instances of random, unintended acceleration. Specifically, while operating the vehicle at various speeds, the transmission fails to engage properly, causing a violent vibration/shudder. This is frequently followed by the vehicle surging or accelerating unexpectedly without increased pressure on the gas pedal. This condition creates a significant safety hazard as it compromises the driver's ability to maintain a constant speed and control the vehicle in traffic or during low-speed maneuvers. The random acceleration is unpredictable and poses an immediate risk of rear-end collisions or loss of vehicle control. General Motors (GM) has issued multiple Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) regarding this specific 8-speed transmission defect (shudder/vibration), yet they have failed to issue a safety recall. My vehicle began exhibiting these life-safety symptoms approximately two weeks after the 100,000-mile powertrain warranty expired in August 2025. A licensed transmission specialist has diagnosed the issue as a torque converter failure and transmission fluid contamination, consistent with the known defects identified in GM's own TSBs. Chevrolet has refused to remedy this safety defect at their expense, citing warranty expiration, despite their documented prior knowledge of the systemic nature of this failure. I am reporting this to NHTSA because the random acceleration component of this defect is a clear and present danger to myself and other motorists on the road.
Thermostat is failing under part recommend mileage. GM is not taking this under consideration. States part last up to 100,000 miles. It’s failing under 30,000 miles.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of the purchase, the mileage was 70,962. At the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 134,606.

from the start of buying the car the transmission has shifted funny. The dealership was advised of this several times and always said nothing was wrong with it.Now the transmission is shuttering when going into higher gears.
Vehicle is doing a hard shift from first to second, severe shuddering, sometimes when braking vehicle acts like it wants to surge forward took to a transmission shop I have a bad torque converter and was told this is a problem with the 8 speed transmission from GM. This is a known issue with these transmissions that GM /dealership knew and refuse to fix. The vehicle stalled on me on a road at night where there's no stores, I'm a female alone on a dark road for about 30 minutes trying to get car to start. Luckily it did. This could've caused an accident and my safety was at risk being stranded alone at night. I was told to not drive the car until fixed. I do not have the funds to fix this issue and GM does not respond to requests, Chevrolet is not helping either.
Transmission Failures. The issue initially presented as intermittent trasmision shuddering, hesitation during accelaration, harsh and delayed shifting, and noticeable vibration, particularly at low speeds and during gear changes. These symptms progressively worsened over time and affected drivability and safty. Prior the failure, there were no warning lights or dashboard messages displayed. Based on professional diagnosis, they are consistent with internal transmission defects commonly reported for this model.(GM's-8 speed automatic transmition 8L45/8L90)Technical Service Bulletins TSB18-NA-335 and TSB16-NA-175. Chevrolet has denied reimbursement. The repairs performed to date have only provided temporary remedy, the issue remains ongoing and consistent with the known defects associated with the transmission.
I have noticed that my car is shuttering/vibrating. I feel it in the steering wheel/gas pedal to my seat. It starts at 35mph plus and at different speed intervals. I either have to decelerate or accelerate to get it to quit. My neighbor who is a mechanic at Maserati/Porsche dealer road with me to verify and also pulled up codes. None were set off. He researched complaints of same issues. Possible fixes could be from changing transmission fluid/flushes/torque converter replacement. Apparently a common issue problems reported. Under 80gs on odometer. Another reported high issue I had to take care myself. Was the back window coming unglued to top. The recalled 17s and 18s due to glue defects. I contacted GM/Chevy and the only thing they are willing to do is give me 230$ which doesn't even put a dent in the charge of a real fix.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal rumbling sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact stated that it felt like the front end of the vehicle was out of alignment. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact believed that there was a misfire coming from the engine. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The contact was informed that the front-end was properly aligned. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. While a friend was driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a misfire in the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with torque converter failure. The contact was informed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failur,e and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
Transmission failed and need to be replaced at about 60,300 miles, just after the warranty expired. Told by the dealership multiple times the hard downshifts and odd shift patterns were normal and not an issue. Turns out it was the transmission valve body failing, causing the entire transmission to fail. Components are not available for inspection. I was able to limp the car home and to the dealership as failure was mainly slippage. There were no warning lights. The transmission was serviced in at approx. 25,000 miles and wiring harness replaced.
Rear window glass in convertible top became delaminated from seal at all corners. Glass rattled when windows were down like it was going to blow off the car. This is a safety issue as the glass may fly off the car. The dealership said they will not warranty the top past 36,000 miles. This is third third top installed on this car. This defect occurs after about 1 1/2 to 2 years before a new one is needed.
When i press the gas the car transmission is jerking.
While driving with Cruise control on doing 70MPH (+\- 5mph) the car was in fuel management mode so only 4 of the 8 cylinders were in use. When going on an uphill incline the car cycled to V8. Instantly, I had a loss of power for a second and then the entire engine locked up in the middle of moderate traffic. Providing maintenance log to show that it wasn’t a lack of maintenance
Started driving down the highway and the parking brake engaged while I was going seventy miles an hour on the freeway. I felt resistance For the rest of my trip. I got to destination one.Couldn't get the parking break to disengage. And I had to drive at home like that. Unhooked to the battery cable and the parking brake disengaged for a moment.Next time I started the car , the parking brake on again and when I put it in reverse , it disengaged. Then it came on. Again. Took it to The shop and got an error code. It was really frightening driving down the highway and feeling the parking brake engage. And then feeling resistance with the car ERROR CODE C0293 08
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a loud knocking sound coming from the engine compartment, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the exhaust system had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.
Was stoped at a stop sign. When I tried to accelerate the car acted like it didn’t want to go and the back wheels locked up causing a screeching noise. Before coming to the stop sign it felt like it was having a shuddering affect. Luckily there was no traffic and it finally shifted out but wouldn’t accelerate very well. I was able to make it home and the Check engine is now on. It was definitely scary experience and now I’m kinda afraid to drive it. This car is low mileage (less than 50k) and a daily driver.
I am reporting an issue with my 2019 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT RS involving a faulty torque converter. The vehicle began showing symptoms consistent with transmission shuddering and performance issues. After diagnostic evaluation at a certified Chevrolet dealership, I was informed the torque converter needs to be replaced and the transmission fluid flushed. Upon researching, I found that this problem is covered under a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) issued by GM for this specific model and year, indicating it's a known issue. However, my vehicle is now out of warranty, and GM has not issued a recall despite the safety and drivability concerns. I believe this defect should be investigated further, as it poses a risk to vehicle performance and potentially driver safety.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the instrument panel failed to display the speed, RPM, engine temperature, or any other vehicle information. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the instrument cluster. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the part had been discontinued. The failure mileage was 102,000.

The basics
How to read this data
Complaints, recalls, investigations — here’s what each number actually tells you about a used Chevrolet Camaro, in plain English.
What is an NHTSA Complaint?
An NHTSA safety complaint is a report filed directly by a vehicle owner or driver describing a safety-related issue. Anyone can submit a complaint at NHTSA.gov. The number of complaints is a signal of how common a problem is — but complaints per model-year matter more than raw totals, since popular vehicles naturally receive more reports. The Chevrolet Camaro has 852 complaints on record across 10 model years.
What is a Safety Recall?
A safety recall is a mandatory campaign issued by NHTSA when a vehicle component poses an unreasonable risk to safety or does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards. Unlike complaints (which are owner-reported), recalls are formally investigated and confirmed by regulators. Manufacturers must fix recalled vehicles free of charge. The Chevrolet Camaro has 17 recall campaigns in the NHTSA database.
What Are Crash Complaints?
Crash complaints are NHTSA filings where the owner indicates a crash occurred as part of the incident. 73 of the Chevrolet Camaro's 852 complaints involved a crash. This metric is particularly important because it indicates how often defects resulted in actual collisions — a key safety signal beyond general reliability.
How Is the Reliability Verdict Calculated?
The reliability verdict (Poor) is generated by analyzing the vehicle's total complaints, recall history, crash complaint ratio, fire complaint ratio, and top component failures relative to class averages. This verdict gives buyers a quick interpretation before they review year-level details and VIN-level history. It should be treated as one decision input, not a substitute for a VIN-specific report.
Why Do Newer Years Have Fewer Complaints?
Newer model years appear to have fewer complaints because there has been less time for owners to file them. Complaints accumulate over years of ownership. A 2020 model year vehicle will typically show fewer complaints than a 2015 model year even if it is less reliable — simply because fewer owners have had time to report issues. Focus on complaints per year of market presence when comparing across model years.
Fleet Data vs. Individual VIN
Everything on this page reflects aggregated data across all Chevrolet Camaro vehicles on the road — not any specific car. Two Chevrolet Camaro vehicles of the same year can have very different histories: one may have been in three accidents and have an open recall; another may be clean. A VIN check gives you the individual car's history: accidents, title brands, odometer records, service history, and real-time recall status.
What Are NHTSA Investigations?
When NHTSA receives a pattern of related safety complaints, it opens a formal investigation. A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is the first stage — NHTSA determines if a safety defect may exist. If evidence is strong, it escalates to an Engineering Analysis (EA), which can result in a mandatory recall. The Chevrolet Camaro has 0 investigations on record (0 active). Investigations listed above may have already led to the recalls shown on this page.
